Thanks Chris for taking the time to create such easy to follow and understand videos. As a content creator and learning and design specialist, I truly appreaciate the fact that you appear to script out each segment to ensure you meet each learning objective as opposed to rambling on and possibly confusing your audience. I have been experimenting with photography and long exposure more recently and I've seen many of these setting but honelsty had no real understanding of what they did exactly. And that is despite watching countless hours of tutorials. The explinations were so simply they just made sense. Great instructional content whether you're new or think you know what you're doing but don't. Keep up the great work. I realize how encouraging good feedback can be for content creators and felt you definitely deserv it!

Hi Chris, I've been taken photos for years but only recently have become interested in long-exposure/night photography. I find your videos to be very constructive with great tips for those of us starting out with this type of pic. taking. I'm a Nikon Z user and yes, I subscribe to your channel. Thanks.

I remember checking my camera just outside my tent. Not even after a minute of zipping up the screen mesh inside, there was this pokey looking blob right beside the tripod. I grab my flashlight and shined it on this mystery blob and it was a porcupine lol scared the crap out of me. It left without issue.

Great video! Instead of raising ISO, why not set to optimal quality (e.g., 100) and increase shutter speed? Also, with lens wide open won't that impact depth of field?

using a nikon d3500 if with ISO set to around 3200, for night images at like a faire or camping for example where its mostly lit by fires and low light, what should the shutter speed be set to?
@attrell
@attrell Год назад
Depends on how bright the fire light is. Start at 1/2 second and then begin increasing if required.

Thanks, Chris! One more question: other photograph tutorials advise us to switch Image Stabilizer to "ON", so I don't know what to do. What are the (dis)advantages of on or off?
@attrell
@attrell 2 года назад
For night photography it is off because once on a tripod you do not need it, and some people have complained stabilizer will vibrate during long exposure and mess up image.

Other tutorials recommend a telephoto lens and a tripod for night photography. Is this accurate or is a kit lens sufficient without a tripod? Kindly advise. Thank you
@attrell
@attrell 2 года назад
The telephoto is for shooting the moon. The kits lens for Astro-landscapes.

Hi Chris, I have a D750, 24-70 mm f2.8. I shot my pic at f2.8, ISO: 1250, 30s, WB: A. the pic came too much to the left. So I change my set to: f11, 120s, ISO: 1250, WB:auto. This time the pic came like a daytime pic, missing the night mood pic. The histogram is about 5/8 towards the right. What I did wrong. Thanks. Rc

Some old cameras only go that high. My old one was like that. YOu can still use it for most night photography.

My camera turned everything white... hmmm what did I do lol
@attrell
@attrell 2 года назад
That is because you have exposure simulation on your camera. Once you get out into the dark, the simulation won't be white, it might in fact be black with some bright spots (Light sources).
@madcat1007

ISO 3200????? You never heard of noise????
@attrell

Most newer cameras, 3200 is not that bad.
