4 year nightshift NICU Nurse here. My routine for nights is the first day back I sleep in until 11:30A or noon and then power through the first night. Sleep from 9A to 4:30P and then first day off I sleep like 5 or 6 hours depending on how tired I am then after that first night off I’m pretty awake for the other 3 days. Hope your sleepiness gets better!

I fined this works really well for me too, for example. I work Fri Sat Sun Mon 12s 6p-6a, on Thursday i get up at a normal time around 8am-9am ish, then I stay up as late as i possibly can i usually make it to 3a or 4a. Then i try to stay in bed as long as possible, today for example was 1030am, Then as you said i just power though till i get off at 6am, Home by 7ish then i shower and go to sleep. I wake up around 3pm, then off to work again by 530pm. Also helpful to note, i do nap on my 30min break on my first night, seems to help me.

Dang!! You’re good at that lol!! There is no way :( if i slept till 11:30 and didn’t take a nap before work on my first night i would be SOOO sleepy!! I’m sure as time goes on, I’ll get more used to it i hope lol!! I love to hear how other night shift nurses do it!!💓

I felt the same way when I worked nights & im somebody that needs 10 hours to feel awake enough for the day. All it felt like I did was work & sleep.. then waking up “early” (say 1pm) to do any errands or appts was so exhaustive. I never did figure out the secret to not feeling like that.. but I hope it gets better for you!

OMG, don't worry about posting as much for me though. I'll be fine. I'll still be watching your vlogs. Your mental health, and, sleep. Comes before work (youtube.) Hope you get what I'm saying. Also, my advice for you. Talk to your manager. See if you can work the three nights in a row. Cause, then on your first day off. You can take a nap once you get home. Then, go about the rest of your day. Might work for you. But, I am happy you're back. And, glad you and Austin are doing well. So, I'll see your next video. Bye friend 🙂✌

Girlfriend, I know exactly how you feel. Been there done that, let me tell you, it does get better! I was working on a post surgical floor, nights, as a new grad & it was soooo nerve wracking at first because not only was I super young but I didn’t have as much exposure than these other seasoned nurses (obviously!) As months went on I felt like overall my anxiety was pretty bad, but then I started to feel more comfortable on the floor. At 6 months I left back home to California and got a post surgical job on nights, I felt this was the best thing for me since I was finally much more confident in the speciality. WELL, I was wrong I got so much anxiety yet again and then I realized it wasn’t even work itself I just hated night shift! i love being outdoors especially in the sun and even though day shift is chaos, it’s so so great. I’m so much happier because i’m able to spend time with friends and family. sending you all my love, just remember you worked hard to get where you’re at and there are so many people that support you! XO

Hello girlie! I’ll be starting night shift soon and I’ve been trying to look for videos that could elaborate on night shift nursing. Specifically what a typical week looks like from a normal 8am wake up to a first day at night shift- is it hard to fall asleep prior to work if you had a good 6-8 he sleep prior to night ahift? Do you happen to take melatonin?

Sleeping from 8am-1pm is only 5 hours of sleep after staying up for a long 12 hour shift so I think that’s totally normal that you would feel exhausted. You could try sleeping until 3pm which would give you 7 hours of sleep and still have 7 hours to do things during the day before 10pm. That’s just my thought process!

Hahaha I don’t laugh at you but the situation!! Hospitals can be insane sometimes! 🤣 Even though it seemed like a lot it sounded like you had a great grip on it. You will definitely a get better feeling of it with time. Also is “spitty uppy” a medical term?? 🤣. Just teasing!! We need a home tour! Keep up the great work.

Hey! Sorry I completely missed this video. What are your upcoming goals now that you've passed the NCLEX Exam? I resent you my personal message on FB so let me know if you received it. Would mean a lot and it's straight from the heart so again thank you for actually valuing and appreciating your audience. You're one of the few channels I stay subscribed to since you actually interact. Much love!
