If you are planning a trip to Madrid, check out Toledo and Segovia. Stay until at least the evening so you'll see the Alcazar and other building that are lit. They are an hour away by car and bus, 30 minutes by fast train from Madrid. These cities has so much to offer, day and night. Of course, don't forget the history. A lot of history to learn.
