Yay! Thanks for watching, Nami. Yep yep, many places immediately started showing off Christmas lights and decorations right after Halloween, especially from November 8th, which was the first day of winter on the Lunar calendar. I posted all those Christmas pics in the #pics section on Discord a few days ago. hehehe See ya in the Discord chat!!!
Thanks for the walking tour of Tokyo, Cory. Personally, I like the countryside. I will never get tired of the views of nature. I'll take that any day over harsh, glaring neon lights, pretty though they may be. Still we appreciate the brief glimpses of gorgeous pink-and-purple sunset. Until next video, take care, Cory!
You're welcome! I'll still film stuff out here in Chiba, away from the urban areas, so you can still expect to see that type of content. ^^ See ya in the next video!
Thanks for the video Cory! I’ll need to try the ramen place next time I visit. I’m planning to buy a few figures since the used ones in Japan are like new. This video was really useful. Looking forward to the next video👍
Yeah, it's a good place. I think it's the A Set meal that has literally everything, fully loaded in the bowl. If I remember, it was like 1,200 yen or something for the A Set. Once again, thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey! I love how you're so apologetic and keep sayin how of a quick tour of Akiba this is but this is one of the most entertaining docs of this I've seen. Thank you for sharing and I'm happy to sub, you seem laid back as well vs. the other characters whom tour it haha! (no fense to them)
Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed it! There's just so much more to the Akiba area and I wish I could cover it all and not just show the typical stuff it is known for that every vlogger or blogger covers. I appreciate the sub! Welcome to the channel. Feel free to ask questions any time!
Nice work, Cory. Good to see you returning to Tokyo, but better to hear that you are doing it at your own pace. The last thing we want is for you to do this out of obligation. Stay comfortable!
Yeah, most definitely. It's weird because right after I posted this video, Tokyo, Osaka, and Hokkaido just announced their highest daily count for infections in a long time. Some think it's the beginning of the 3rd wave coming into the late fall / early winter season. Others attribute it to all the Halloween stuff about 2 weeks ago. Who knows, but maybe my return to Tokyo was a bit premature? I hope everything is OK~~~
Aloha Cory ~ This was a fun walk....the bright lights and lighted up marquees made this night walk a playful one. It’s fascinating the amount of figurines that are made to support the webtoon and manga characters. I love that it seems safe to be walking around & doing your own thing with people moving out of your way but then you’re in a city/country where being polite is the norm. There’s so much chaos here in the United States especially with the elections & the cases from the pandemic still peaking so this was a great distraction. Thank you for going out of your comfort zone during COVID-19 just so you can take us outside of Matsudo. As always stay safe and stay healthy 🏝
Glad you enjoyed the video so much! Akiba has lots of figurines, and so does a place called Nakano Broadway. I'd like to go there one day, since I've never been! Yeah, I watch the news everyday and see the situation in the U.S. and it's just scary. Please be safe and take care!
Your videos never disappoint but this one was especially great to watch, loved the evening ambiance in the city. It was good to see everyone wearing masks, and fighting COVID that way. Stay safe, dear Cory. Looking forward to watching more of your vids. 🤗👍🏻🍀🍭💝
Glad you enjoyed the walk, Terry. Yeah, it's a nice and easy walk, and one I've done many times before. After 8 months of being in Matsudo, though, it felt good to be back in a more "city" type of environment, even though Matsudo is a small city and can get crowded in the downtown station area.
For those that don't live there, this videos and the 4k walking videos is a good way to experience Tokyo. 13:34 I'm not gonna speak for the other weebs, but I bet most don't mind, if u show more figurines 😍😉. Where I live, stores that sell those, are pretty rare.
Yup! I've been doing these walk & talk type of videos since 2013. I think it's the best way to really let viewers from around the world see and experience a place. I know many walking channels don't talk during their walks, which is fine. I always talk, because I like to share my thoughts and also some tidbits of info that I know about for the viewers to enjoy. I'll try and make a video or two about figurine shops in the future and show as much as I can. ^^ Thanks for watching!
Loved this Cory, brings back memories. We were able to walk down the main street in akihabara because they shut down traffic, just drank coffee and ate donuts all day.
I'm glad this video could bring you back to your visit there! I'm heading back into that area today to do some shopping and film another walking video in a different area. Stay tuned!
Today is actually the 1st anniversary of my trip to Japan! We went on some business for my dad (his English is kinda bad so I was officially his translator) so most of our week was full of meetings, business dinners and things like that. But I told him - we must go to Akihabara. He was a good sport about it but he was so baffled by everything it was hilarious. This was such a great video, its basically what we did, just walking around kind of aimlessly absorbing everything! Thank you for helping me relive one of the best trips of my life!
Wow, very interesting. 1 year, huh? Time flies!!! Walking around and absorbing everything around you is definitely the best way to experience any country. I hope you can return to Japan again!
Hi Cory, hope your are well. I am so happy that you started your walks in Tokyo. I know it is not easy to walk around a city during the Pandemic when suffer from anxiety. Recently, I have had a few anxiety attacks. Therefore i only go out if I really need to. I laughed so much, when you pointed out the green Adult store. In London these stores are low key.😃😃😃. It gets dark in London from 4pm onwards. Cory stay safe.
Hi AuntyM66, thanks. I'm glad you could enjoy the video. I'm sorry that you had experienced some anxiety attacks recently. I hope you're OK now. Please take it easy. My anxiety isn't so bad these days so I'm able to go out and do things. Oh yeah, the adult stores in Japan are very obvious and advertised very openly. Even in a family-friendly store like Don Quijote, they have an adult section. And adult magazines are in every convenience store, taking up a huge section of the available rack space. It has been like this decades. Anyway, thanks for watching! Please take care!
Yeah!!! I was editing the video on Discord stream and Danbi and Houdinizz were watching me and I talked about how we ate there and then went to the sex shop and that karaoke place. hehehe As always, thanks for watching the video!!
Hey, first time in your channel but holy you are good at narrating and talking. I watched the entire video... I definitely miss Akihabara. wow..awesome channel man
Alleys aren't really the safest place here in America, so it's so odd to see you and other Japan walkers just mosey on down these alleyways with little worry! I'd be terrified, especially as a woman! But, I suppose if you know how to maneuver them, it isn't so bad, right? And yes, Times Square is a great comparison! I went there in 2019 for my 18th birthday and high school graduation celebration! Is jaywalking not popular/illegal in Japan? (It's technically illegal here in the U.S. too, but if you know how to safely jaywalk a lot of people just kind of forgive it lol) It was really neat seeing all of the Pokemon merch in those shops!! I would go broke buying every Mew plushie or figurine I see 😂 Thank you for uploading and stay safe!!
Asia is relatively safe to explore without worry of being mugged, shot, stabbed, or jumped... especially Japan and Korea, two of the safest countries in the world. Unfortunately, no country is perfectly crime-free or safe. People jaywalk in Japan, just like they do in America. Look both ways twice, make a little run for the other side. hehehe But in general, the majority tend to follow the crosswalk light. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos!
Aye your back in Tokyo wicked good video you should make more videos about akiba and ikebukuro as well. Maybe also the ueno park And ofc gurenge is playing 5 mins into the video Finally the wagyu beef bowl place u walked by i posted a video in the food channel in your discord a while back
Yeah! I'll film more videos, since I plan to go into Tokyo at least once a week now. LOL yeah, it's super common to hear Gurenge playing all over the place. And of course, in Akiba, it would be weird to not hear it there right now. Thanks for watching man! See ya in Discord.
Yeah, it already started in many places, from the beginning of November! Sadly, all festivals and major events have been cancelled in 2020 because of Covid. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. ^^ I'm sorry I didn't enter more stores. Hopefully in the future when the pandemic situation goes away, I can go back and visit many stores and make videos inside!
Love it when you walk! Is there a reason why everybody seems to be dressed in Black? Thank you for the maps! Its so clean ! You make me laugh! Thank you for the share can’t wait for more!!!!!
I don't know why many people are wearing black. There were lots of people wearing suits. As for everyone else, I don't know. I also wear lots of black because it's my favorite color for clothes and it matches well with anything. lol
Yeah! I still haven't made it out there. I know it's really good for figurine shopping, just like Akiba. I know there are other vegan ramen places in Tokyo, but this is the only one I know of personally. I mentioned it was soy-based, but I wanted to clarify that it isn't just loaded with soy-based products. It's plant-based ramen. That's a more accurate way to describe it. hehehe
Nice little walk around the Akiba area. Seems like the Tokyo area has a better grasp on the Covid than the USA. One thing is in the states 85% of the people don't normally wear masks, even in just flu or hay fever season. As you know we tend not to be as considerate as other countries when it comes to sicknesses. Cheers Cory!
Yeah. Asian countries are more collective, while America is more individualistic. The masks definitely play a huge role, and it's a shame watching footage of people in America saying masks kill people and the politicization of masks. It's really ridiculous, in fact. Anyway, despite all that, Japan is still seeing increase in cases daily, we're now entering a sort of "3rd wave" period and it has many on edge, even though the numbers aren't even comparable to the U.S. right now. Please be safe, wear a mask when you go out, and thanks for watching!
Oh, they also sell adult magazines in every convenience store. So you'll have to get used to seeing adult-themed posters and magazines everywhere, even in family-friendly places.
They're not making as much money as before the pandemic, but they're still surviving from domestic customers. Some other smaller businesses have shut down, though. The government is providing assistance to those smaller businesses that took a hit in revenue this year.
Yeah, Anela... There are homeless people here but not like you see in Los Angeles or Washington DC or any other major city in America. Actually, right by Akihabara Station, there are homeless people that sleep under the train overpass, but I didn't walk there in this video. Usually the homeless go somewhere else in the daytime, then they return to these covered areas at night to sleep and stay out of the rain. I remember back in the late-90's, Fukuoka's Hakata Station had a ton of homeless people, they took over half the station area with cardboard box homes and stuff. So they def exist, but I don't know enough about what they do in the daytime or what programs exist to help them.
14:33 Did Adores close down the building too? That’s depressing man. First Sega #2, then Tsukumo building in front of the station. These are all iconic landmarks of the area. This whole area must be hurting that bad from the lack of international tourists.
Yep, the closed down for good in October. The "Kawasaki Warehouse" also closed this year due to lack of revenue during the pandemic. It definitely sucks. Not much anyone can do...
At 12:36 anyone know the name of the figure priced 6800 yen in the black dress with large moth or butterfly wings, at the left of centre? I gotta get one
So when it comes to dining everyday, are the restaurants good and cheap? Past experience in Hong Kong there wasn't much of an option as the apartment didn't have much of a kitchen. Going out was pretty hit and miss for someone not used to the cuisine.
You can definitely find all price ranges for food in Tokyo, to match your budget. Some people eat out 2 or 3 times a day for all their meals, especially if they aren't married and are busy working. There are lots of little shops that cater to those types of lifestyles. Quick in & out style eating for budget prices. I personally cook at home mostly because in my area in Matsudo, there aren't too many cheap restaurant options. Maybe just 1 or 2 near my house, but it gets old eating the same thing often. I kind of wish I lived in Tokyo to be able to explore more of the food that exists there. Tokyo has the most restaurants in the world, with over 474,048 restaurants. Insane, right?!
Thank you. It was like the next best thing to being there. I’m curious, besides airfare how much money in US dollars would someone need for 3-4 days visit with minimal shopping? Just basic hotel, train fare and food etc. just basics. No fancy restaurants or hotels. I would just sightsee like you were doing and maybe buy a few simple things that I can’t get in the USA. Thanks.
I'm really not sure, to be honest. It all depends on your budget, plus having some emergency money as well in case something happens (delayed flights, extended stay, insurance, etc). For that many days with what you said, I'd bring $1500 to $2000, just in case. You probably won't even spend more than $600 or so in that time, but having at least double that amount, if not more, is advisable. It also depends on the quality of the trip you want. Do you want to rough it backpacker style and eat cheap convenience store food or pay a little more to have a comfy AirBNB and enjoy delicious meals in an affordable restaurant? Etc... Many things to consider. But yeah, cheap travel to Tokyo is possible if you're smart about it all. ^^
Yes I’m fine with eating from 7/11, McDonald’s, or even the just add hot water type cheap cup o noodles and maybe a modest meal or two at a dine in restaurant. All I need is a small lockable room with a bed and shower, nothing fancy. My idea is fly in, stay in the same place and walk around in one of those places I’ve seen where there’s a lot of shops and bright beautiful lights. And maybe go have a little fun at a karaoke bar once. Maybe they can tolerate a chubby hairy American if I sing for them lol.
hahaha It sounded like one of the maid cafe girls advertising in a really high-pitched voice. A lot of them do that, it's a "cute" kind of voice that stands out amongst all the normal voices on the sidewalk. Kind of an actual advertising tactic.
I have no idea. I've never eaten at a Carl's Jr in my life. LOL I'd imagine it might be mostly similar, but maybe it might have a Japan-only item or two. They also have Shake Shack, which is another place I haven't eaten at in my life.
thank you for sharing btw is there specific place for diecast cars model cars and The pc peripherals such as Pc Cpu Graphic Cards (Gpu) gamer Mice Keyboards etc in Tokyo thank you ?
Yeah, it would be this neighborhood, Akiba (Akihabara). hehehe This is where I had my custom gaming/4K editing PC built after I sourced out all the best parts in my budget range.
@@CoryMay81 Thank you for your answer I'm taking notes.I walk around Akihabara on google maps and I saw some Tax Free shops Which countries can get taxes back do you know ? Btw How far Akihabara from Shinjuku On Foot ? 25 or 30 min ? Im walking triple fast from normal people :D
I can't say when I'll be back on Twitch. I haven't streamed on Twitch since the beginning of September. And I'm thinking about when would be a good time to do a live stream on RU-vid... possibly next week.
T.T Hope the COVID-19 pandemic will pass very soon~ Pray for the world~ Miss Japan so so much!!! Can only get my figures thru buyee or HOYOYO Japan Proxy now days~
Japan is a very clean country, but it is not perfect. I just wanted to clarify that even very popular places in Tokyo, such as Shibuya, have plenty of trash on the streets, especially on the weekends when everyone is drinking and hanging out in those areas. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, several famous game centers here and in Kawasaki closed. It was huge news, but they aren't making as much money because of the pandemic. Very sad...
