We were able to set-up some time with Mark and Nelson from Nighthawk Custom (www.NighthawkCustom.com) to discuss their acquisition of Cooper Firearms of Montana. Many longtime Cooper Firearms of Montana fans were shocked to read the announcement released this morning that they were acquired by Nighthawk Custom of Arkansas. This acquisition means that Cooper Firearms will be moved to the Nighthawk Custom campus in Arkansas, ending the 33 years of building custom rifles in the small town of Hamilton, Montana. We were fortunate to visit and tour the Cooper Firearms facility in Hamilton. We witnessed incredible workmanship and detail at every turn. I've heard that Nighthawk also produces fine workmanship, so we are hoping this is a great move for both companies.

Cooper are artisan gunsmiths, with a stellar reputation and I can’t help but feel uneasy about this.

I lived near Cooper, the last couple times I went in it was a ghost town, I don't know if they ever recovered from Covid or it was something else going on. I hope Nighthawk can build on and continue the Cooper legacy. I've got 3 Coopers and have had about 5 others, I'm wishing for their success.

I have been a Cooper owner for years and I have always loved the service from them. I have attended the " One Shot" for several years and was lucky enough to win two rifles and one painting! I hope the quality and service will continue to be top notch. Living in Idaho I hate to see them leave the west but I understand. I wish Nighthawk the best in the future!

Love my Coopers. Bought one and it was so good, bought another identical rifle so I could give both of my boys the exact same rifle when I am gone. Just finished acquiring two more, one for a bear hunt and one for varmit. To me they are a tool, a VERY GOOD TOOL, to help with my hobby of hunting. Now the proud owner of 2 30-06's and one 338 Win Mag and a 6mmBR.

Only time will tell whether this acquisition will maintain, improve or spoil the stellar reputation that Cooper Firearms has achieved with their rifle products over the past 30+ years. From a selfish standpoint I am sorry to see a Montana business leave my state as I would often stop by just to "talk shop" with the staff at Cooper over the past several years and see their inventory.

That's completely understandable. I'm glad someone was able to step in to continue the Cooper Firearms name and not let it go away like Kimber of Oregon. We shall see.

This rather disappoints me. I own a Cooper Mdl 22, a heavy varmint rifle, 6.5-284. I am approaching, barrel replacement time and was relying on Cooper Barrel replacement policy. I have out of state for years but am back in Montana now. I wonder if they will honor Cooper's warranty. I love owning a Cooper rifle and would love to own more. I hope they do continue to provide the quality everyone expects from Cooper.

We'll have to see what happens. It sounds to me like Cooper wasn't long for this world, so this acquisition is the thing that saved the company.

@@varmintermagazine I found out that the barrel replacement policy was no longer in effect before Nitehawk Custom took over Cooper. I must say that I'm sad to see them go but am relieved that Cooper as a brand will survive.

Anyone buying a Cooper Firearm, past or future, knows it will be a large investment that will (hopefully) bring enjoyment in the future. I have never owned a Cooper for the very reason you stated. Someday, before I get kicked off this planet, I hope to own one though! ;-)
