Thing is, everything is on all the time with streaming, so it's kind of like unless you have the self-discipline to set yourself a network-like schedule to watch what's out there at a leisurely pace, you end up "binge-watching" something and you can finish an entire season of a show in a few days, maybe a week if you're really disciplined. I miss the anticipation of the slower pace of old-school network TV.

I feel like loneliness is a especially prevalent among our seniors who have retired, are widowed or divorced and their adult children busy in their own lives and hundreds of miles away. I've watched this happen to my mom. I live close by and spend three or four days/nights a week with her, but I know she's just completely alone those other days. She told me the other day that she doesn't like being alone on the weekends. I know it's because the television schedule is different on Saturdays and Sundays, and the lack of that routine makes the boredom and loneliness worse. In the last two or three years, she has aged ten years it seems like. I have become so much more aware of the heartbreaking loneliness epidemic our aging seniors struggle through. I wish I knew how to help.

Gee your mother has it made. I see my daughter maybe once a month. She has her friends. She is there if I need her help but not for loneliness. I’d love to even talk on the phone once a day but she doesn’t like to talk on the phone. I’m alone pretty much all the time. I’m a Christian so I do pray and feel less lonely that way than most others who have no faith. But your mother is really blessed to have you for a daughter. I moved from a house to a seniors apartment so I do speak to people in passing. I’m able bodied for now and drive my own car. I try not to think ahead to when I might be unable to get out. I have a pet and that does help fill the apartment. It’s not that dead empty feeling and gives me some company.

I was good and alone for months living in rural America, then my friend came to visit and we went to a popular town for 3 days, and I collected bed bug bites and the new Covid. Not worth the trouble. Not everyone alone is lonely, some of us enjoy life in nature, without a lot of interaction.

Maybe. But there are many people, often older and ailing, who do NOT want to be socially isolated. But they have no family or friends and they are. There should be something offered for them. Other societies just take care of elderly and respect them.

Then it dawned on me that I needed to be the kind of person that someone would want to with and to develop the same things in myself that I was looking for in someone else. Also, if you participate in things that you were interested in, you will find other people who have like interest and that’s a great way to get to meet someone, plus you already have one thing in common. Same as the dust bowl during the great depression. Farmers thinking only about the next season did whatever to maximize yield, not the long vision to minimize the erosion of topsoil. Time to kick corporate farms and go with smaller growers choosing no-till agriculture!

Well, the FAA maybe does need to update it's 1st responder meds & training. However, the said doctor (if a medical dr!) KNEW she has a condition to need an epipen herself SHAME ON HER! My wife carries one 24/7. Often, it is very expired before it gets replaced too.

Loneliness? I prefer to live alone on the farm with my Corgi and a couple of tamed cats. Sure, I'm on Facebook but rarely converse with local friends there and on my cell, occasionally text as well as talk. It's just not a priority. I do enjoy meeting new people at gas stations and auto parts swap meets, etc. Sometimes even at the laundromat! Don't think you 'need' to connect constantly, you're better off alone most of the time.
