@david ludwig I enjoy Nightmare 2 but let’s be real, it deserves the hate it gets. From the goofy exploding bird to the dogs wearing masks to the BDSM gym coach scene that literally comes out of nowhere to the pool party scene…there’s a lot of shit in this movie.

In this context it makes sense. But keep in mind, the millions of people who watched it, watched it before being gay was not only acceptable, but understood. The culture didn't understand all the references, it was mostly teens, and they didn't even know to look for them. I remember watching it the first time and not hating it, but once the pool scene happens all the fun, and campy moments turn sour. There are only 2 rules about Freddy. You have to fear him. And you have to be asleep. They broke both cardinal rules about an Elm Street movie. Plus that bird looked horrible. I laughed out loud at that first time watching it. I think they've since done some touch ups, but even for the time that was trash. I did like how they captured the suburban small town family though. That's what makes the undertones work as well.

The first one terrified me but I watched it over and over at about 6 years old and the second one was a massive let down and I didn't like it and I didn't understand gays or lesbians back then but even as a kid I could pick up on some strange vibes from the movie I just didn't know what it was
This is why it gets all the hate it gets. It's not because of LGB angle I don't know why people seem to think that's the case. Its because whoever wrote the script knowingly and willingly. Took the character Freddy Krueger in the first movie clearly states he only has powers and abilities in the dream world. Whoever wrote this movie knowingly and willingly ignored all that and changed it completely into something else. Because he had him have powers in the real world wich the first movie clearly states he does not have any powers in the real world. What part of that is hard to understand they took a character. Who only has powers and abilities in the dream world only. In the real world hes powerless he's just like everyone else. But in this movie he has all of his Powers fully intact in the real world. That completely goes against his powers and abilities from the first movie. This is a sequel to to that movie so that means his powers and abilities have to. Remain the same as original movie which is the previous movie before this movie. Its basic sequel movie rules you can't change a characters powers and abilities completely from the previous movie. In a follow-up movie or a sequel if you will. Seriously everyone I watch react to this movie. They hardly notice any LTB angle because of all the weird dream BS things happening in the real world. Because they are too busy asking why is that bird exploding into flames. Why is Flames coming out of a toaster when it's not plugged in. How did the coach died when he was not sleeping. Why is Freddy Krueger a real world why is the pool on fire why are the hot dogs exploding. Why are those human face dog things in the real world. This is what they are saying as they watch this movie. They go doesn't Freddy Krueger only have powers in Dreamworld so why is all of this. Stuff happening in the real world this is confusing it makes no sense. This is why this movie gets all the hate it gets an it fully deserves it. They could have all that stuff in the dream world. I mean the scene with Freddy driving the bus that was a dream. Him seeing Freddy Krueger and his house that was a dream. So they were fully capable of keeping Freddy Kruegers powers and abilities the same as the first movie. But they knowingly and willingly change them 100% completely of their own free will. This is why this movie got all the hate it got an continues to get and it deserves it for that reason. If you still don't understand let me put it like this. Let's have Halloween 2 but make it so Michael Myers now only kills people only in the Dreamworld. Anytime of the year not just on Halloween anymore is that Michael Myers to you or would you go this movie is horrible. Because everyone knows Michael Myers only kills people on Halloween in the real World. The lets take Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th. Then have him only kill people with magical spells like fireballs and lightning bolts in Scotland. Would you find that acceptable or would you go that's not Jason Voorhees. He kills people with objects an his physical strength at Crystal Lake. So given those examples of and my explanation now do you understand why this movie gets the hate it gets . Because you don't mess with a character's core capabilities and characteristics. In a sequel movie they have to remain the same in order for it to make sense. I seriously fail to understand why people don't understand why people don't like this movie. Its like calling a Apple a banana people are going to notice an apple is the apple and a banana a banana. People will notice when you change a characters powers and abilities around. Well most people will and they have a problem with that. Unlike you which needs it pointed out apparently. I prefer Dream Warriors with Nancy's continued story arc and that it felt more fantasy than just horror. The sequel was random at times but I liked it. I dislike when the main character disappears and you do not know what happens to them. Jessie's girlfriend was a Final Girl alongside Nancy. Jessie was a main character but His girlfriend saved him and believed him and helped him whereas nobody believed him.
I'm just starting this video. This is my favourite of the Elm Street series. I've defended it my whole life. I'm glad that it has it's own dedicated fanbase.
Parts 3 through 6 (that Freddy's Dead crap) weren't scary at all. Englund's make-up wasn't as frightening and Freddy wasn't as sinister as in the first two films.

*This is actually my FAVOURITE Nightmare film* It's got great pacing, great cast, love the music and 80's vibe, and its genuinely creepy. Also Freddy *LOOKS amazing* it's easily the coolest he has ever looked with 'Freddy VS Jason' a close second.
Never thought this was a bad movie. More that it was just straight up bizarre. I mean, the bird exploding for no reason, Jesse going to a bar where his leather bound gym teacher forces him to go to the gymnasium at like 10pm, then Freddy pops into the real world during the pool scene. There's so much baffling weird stuff that it sorta becomes compelling.
Deja vu...could've sworn you covered this in a video not too long ago. In any case, over the years I've grown to appreciate nightmare 2. The school bus driving into the desert scared me to hell as a kid. The companion documentary, scream queen is an interesting look Into Patton.
One of the parts of this movie that scares me is that one seen where we have just a close up on Freddy’s eyes. They are so creepy and radiate the pure evil that we associate with the character. While he will always be menacing, his gallows humour did lighten the intense stuff and makes the movies fun, even if the latter few are so bad they’re good. We all want to laugh and be scared and Freddy, if written properly can give us both
Honestly, I'm surprised to hear the hatred for this entry. When it arrived in our local video store, along with the 4 1/2 tall stande, it was wildly popular among my friends. Got more talk among people than later entries. I do think what led to some hate of it. Was the VHS release was really dark, and you had some problem seeing what the heck was going on. When the film came out on DVD the picture was corrected so you can see things clearly now. Leading to more enjoyment for the flick.

One of the gayest horror films ever made, with the lead character being played by a gay man, trying to play a straight man(very poorly) mostly ignoring his girlfriend throughout the film, while finding himself in his male friends bedrooms, a fondness for dancing around his own room like a uninhibited teenage girl at a slumber party, and even Freddy's entire ark in the story was to get inside him!? But I still enjoy the film and think the Freddy design/makeup in this film is better than the original.
I rather enjoyed this entry. It's still creepy and had an interesting take on Freddy Krueger trying to seduce Jessie into being his "partner." Coach is my favorite character.
If they would've gone along with Englund's idea to put the finger blade into his mouth, there is no way that producer could've claimed he didn't notice the subtext! Lol! Freddy's Revenge is a great movie! I'd put as one of my favorites in the series.

i love this one for it's creepiness. the way it's unclear if all of it's a nightmare or all in the real world. and the fact that it's never mentioned again leaves everything unanswered. freddy's still super scary, and not a quip machine, like chucky is. and mark patton delivers a high caliber performance that is heartbreaking and likable. he got a raw deal from the writer, but steals the show from freddy, and maybe that's why people didn't like it?
Still on the lower end of the franchise for me but my favorite thing about the movie is the MEDIA VHS cover. The cover by far my favorite cover of the entire franchise with Freddy ripping through and peeking out from the peaceful night scene with fire behind him.
As someone who was first exposed to the nightmare series with part 2, I totally agree. That cover was horrifying! Scared me to even look at it as a kid.
It's disgusting what they did to Mark Patton but I'm glad to see that it has since become a cult film and Mark has become celebrated as the first male scream queen.
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 was the first Nightmare movie I've seen when I was 4/5. I remember being freaked by the scenes of the main character going into basement and the eye in the mouth was so bad for me I used to grab random mirrors and check for any eyes in my mouth. id say this is my second favourite Nightmare on Elm Street, first being Nightmare on Elm Street 3
This movie was atrocious. All the points made against the script's illogic are correct. I was too young and naive to see any of the gay subtext back then, but still hated it on its own merit. The notion of it being heralded now simply because the subtext makes it "progressive" is cringe as hell.
I never cared for Freddy's Revenge when I was young, but it has grown on me over the years. I still don't love it, but I do respect it and enjoy more then I did.
I've always enjoyed ANOES Part 2 ever since I first saw it. I think it has a genuinely solid performance from Robert Englund in it. I love how dark and sinister Freddy is in the movie which is something parts 3,4,5,6 are sorely missing. Not to mention that those sequels in particular lack any real nightmare scenes. For some odd reason in these sequels all the characters seem to be just having dreams not nightmares and honestly I can live without the comedy from Freddy. If I want comedy I'll watch a comedy movie. I can appreciate the possession angle efforts they tried to incorporate in Part 2 as well as the innovative practical make up effects on display throughout the movie. Overall despite some of the flaws in Part 2 I think it's probably at the top of the list for me when it comes the sequels of the franchise.
A Nightmare on Elm St part 2: Freddy Revenge is The Most Scariest & Underrated Sequel in The Franchise, I love the story, the horror and scary scenes are very effective, the cast work excellent in their performance, the Gore and kills are truly disturbing, the transformation scene always gets me, it has the most Scariest/ Menacing look of Freddy Krueger that he look like the devil, and this such a damn great sequel I love it next to the original & Part 3.
This entry in the franchise did the right thing it was different from it's predecessors it's still scary af and who cares just as long as you enjoyed it people will always find faults in every artistic expression
I love this movie. I was about 11 when this movie came out. The first time I saw it I was probably confused & excited & didn't understand why. At night I would try to pray the gay away. It didn't work.😋
I always thought this was oddball of Elm Street movies, but it grew on me over the years. Jack Shoulder has always been capable "for hire" director, giving us actually couple of horror and SF classics, and there was couple of good scenes in this movie. I also really love how the "boiler room" looks in this movie, it's the grittiest, dirtiest rundown version of Freddy's home to date. Also that scene where Freddy gets out of Jessie's body was just dope, I don't recall any other horror movie doing something like that (movies till 85 that is), and I thought opening scene was really well made.
Oh my God. I have been trying to figure out the name of a crazy movie where a girl comes back to life controlled by a killer robot I saw as a kid. I couldn't remember enough to properly google it now that I'm older but immediately recognized it as you showed scenes from "deadly friend." I immediately looked like Leo from once upon a time in Hollywood! Thank you so much, this has bothered me for a long time and all I had to do this whole time was imdb wes craven. Dammit man lol
The homoeroticism makes it scarier. The sexual element between Freddy and his *almost* adult victims definitely makes him creepier, without becoming outright vile, like the implications of Freddy's Dead and the 2010 remake. Him being just as skeevy with Jesse as he was with Nancy feels right for the character.

The opening bus ride dream is the stuff of nightmares, no pun intended. So glad I didn’t watch this one as a young kid, like I did the others. Took the school bus from grade school to high school, would have scared me sh*tless as an 8 year old.

It’s great to see a movie come around from hated to loved. Admittedly this wasn’t a fave of mine but it did bring us a non-traditional scream queen that more modern movies could benefit from having.
This is still one of my favourite Freddy movies. He doesn't mess around. Just viscous and evil. Jesse is fantastic as the Final Guy. I loved the opening Bus scene, and that pool scene is perfect. "You are all my children now!" Luckily for me, I was too young for the internet when I first saw this movie and didn't realized this movie was that hated until MUCH Later in life. Glad you posted this, and I am happy to see it is getting the respect and appreciation it deserves.

This is still my favorite after the first one. The thing people forget about 2 breaking the rules is that the first one broke its own rules. Freddy controls things in the real world a lot.
My first horror movie, i remember being forced to watch this movie with 7 years old with 2 girls , way older than me , and then being scared as fuck by them. Changed my life forever. Now with 33 year old im a horror geek with pride and i thank them everytime we see each other and talk about how "that joke" influenced me.
This was my first nightmare on elm street movie. My dad recorded it for me and my brother in vhs. Was same age as you and I was absolutely terrified of the bus scene and Freddy emerging from the main character 😭😭

Nightmare on Elm Street part 2 was freaking AWESOME... What we got to witness Robert England in Freddy's most evil makeup. So we had the most evil looking and acting Freddy in all the movies
Part 2 is fantastic. Freddy was still very dark, twisted and scary. It has some of the most haunting dream sequences, too, from the opening in the bus, to Jesse's sister slowly doing the jump rope in her room. Also, in my opinion, it has some of the best acting in the series. I'm super happy that it's finally getting the love it deserves. ALSO, for those who haven't seen it, you should absolutely watch the documentary Scream, Queen: My Nightmare on Elm Street, which follows lead actor Mark Patton, who plays Jesse, and his life before, during and after the hate that this movie got. It's really emotional and fantastic. And it's on Shudder! Woo!
Nightmare 2 definitely grew on me over the years. There was a time when I kinda just "tolerated" it during my ANOES marathons. Now I like it quite a bit and rank it pretty high in the franchise.
I'm glad that it has a cult following, and the design of freddy is my favorite, also love the invasion of the body snatcher dogs, when I was 10 I liked it, until part 3 came out then I realized how truly horrifying Freddy truely was.
I always thought the reason he could walk in the real world was because he was in Jesse.....possessed. Problem solved. To me this was the darkest and most scary of the series. 3 still my favorite though. This is a close No. 2 to me.
There was a big problem with Wes Craven’s original intention that Nightmare would be a one-and-done: He’d just created a horror monster with such a distinct look and motifs, and gotten the perfect actor for the role. There’s no way a studio could leave that alone - they shouldn’t, and it’s not just about the money. They should genuinely try to build it up to a place in the culture alongside Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster.
New Line Cinema originally didn't ask Robert Englund to return as Freddy Krueger and refused to give him a pay raise. A stuntman was cast as Freddy at the start of production. After two weeks of filming, Robert Shaye realized this was a terrible lapse in judgment, fired the stuntman, hired Englund, and met his demands. In the opening sequence, the bus driver is Robert Englund without the "Freddy" make-up. The only "Nightmare" film in which the lead character is male. Kim Myers was allegedly cast in the film due to her resemblance to Meryl Streep. In an interview featured in In Search of Darkness: Part II (2020), Robert Englund states that he was fully aware of the homoerotic elements of the film and was enthusiastic about playing up these undertones in the on-screen interactions between Freddy and Jesse. Mark Patton says in Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy (2010) that he had to say no to some pieces of business, such as Freddy putting his blades in Jesse's mouth, that made him feel uncomfortable. Michael J. Fox was considered for the role of Jesse Walsh, but was unable due to his commitments to Back to the Future (1985) and Teen Wolf (1985). One RU-vidr I watched watched this movie almost stopped watching the movie franchise completely. Because he thought all the sequels we're going to be like this. He was only convinced to continue because. Everyone in comment section said they get better. So most people after seeing this movie skip this one altogether like you. Put it this way I got the eight movie collection with the original 8 movies. I got 1 free coaster take a guess which movie that disc is. That will forever be untouched or watched.
I liked Nightmare 2 from the day I watched it. It’s a creative way to bring Freddy back and expand on his powers! Being too weak after his encounter with Nancy he must now possess Jessie to regain some fear and control. Plus it’s only Nightmare 2, it’s only just begun! Even Wes Craven asked how it could ruin the franchise if it just started? Freddy continued to display new powers in each film after this so what’s the big deal? The characters are fun and likable, Jessie’s actor really sells the “losing his mind” part, Freddy is probably at his scariest here, and the way the story goes is very clever to show dream possession! I love it forever, my second favorite Nightmare film behind the original
For what it's worth, Jesse's "friend" was Lisa, not Kim. Kim Myers is the actress' name. And if anyone actually reads between the lines you'd see that Bob Shaye was a cheap asshole. Everyone has their nice way of saying it ever since but with a very few exceptions shaye ultimately ran everyone off with his actions and choices. Also, as a Nightmare historian and purist i always go back and forth between 2 and 4 as my favorites mainly since they were so different. As for the parakeets, its nothing more than again "cheap asshole bob" going all out and hiring an FX artist whos claim to fame was 3 stooges shorts. No disrespect but its worlds apart. Love the videos, but anytime you do a Nightmare piece unfortunately I'll probably have a few critiques.
Yes this movie is definitely in a class by itself when it comes down to The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Of course we now know that the very homo-erotic situations were intentional. But the title Freddy's Revenge never made sense to me because at the end of the first Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy actually won. But of course it was also one of these sequel cash grabs.
I'm probably just making excuses for it, but one could say the title works because Freddy's existence was kickstarted by vengeance for being burned alive. I know it's a flimsy defense but so is using a warrant technicality. Point is that they both still work.

This played frequently on either stars or hbo when I was a kid so it’s the one I’ve probably seen the most, and was really my introduction to Freddy. Without the baggage of the first film and the lore it’s a really good movie
One thing most people miss on the gay conspiracy thing is Jessie's bedroom door has a sign that says "No chick's Allowed', it was popular in the 80's to see "No checks allowed" but Jessie placed an "i" over the "e" 😅
I had no idea about the subtext because I first saw this when I was 9 years old and already a Fred head until I watched the whole series back to back when I was 18 and was like why is he dancing like that..? And then I realized what was going on in the 3 hour classic nightmare on elm street documentary I think the best part of the film is Robert Englund's performance as my favourite villain in 80s cinema Freddy Krueger despite the flaws of the sequels apart from part 3 I think that's the best of the series as a continuation of the first film, I remember being completely hyped for Freddy vs Jason after thinking the films were long ago finished and loved every minute of it, there should have been Freddy vs Jason vs Ash after as a hardcore Evil Dead fan too
It's a shame really since I thought this film was really really good. I thought the acting was solid, the characters are likeable, Freddy was dark and scarier than ever and the idea of Freddy living in a person's body and causing havoc when he pops out was great. Almost everything about this film worked for me and it's a shame it's overlooked because it's ( in my opinion ) the 2nd best sequel.
This was the first ANOES movie I saw it on VHS so it's a favorite of mine, the high school setting in movies seemed to permeate many teen movies at the time like The Breakfast Club; Back To The Future; Weird Science; Teen Wolf.
I was 5 when this movie came out and it was the first horror movie I ever watched so I never looked at for anything but it being a horror movie. It’s the reason to this day that I love horror movies.
Def the Scariest of all Freddy Performances. The whole Posession thing felt off. The Homoerotic undertones were interesting at times. Robert Rusler was Awesome in the Film. Loved the School Bus & Pool Party Scenes! Parts 1, 3 & 4 are much Better.
