Nightmare Outta Nowhere! YZ250X Off The Rails (Ep.59)

Riding Mt. Ida singletrack by the East Peak when suddenly things take a turn for the worse when the bike clicks out of gear and slides off the trail. This is when riding solo really sucks! The bike is a 2017 Yamaha YZ250X. The action cam is a GoPro Hero 8 with ProShot mount. This is near Salmon Arm, BC, Canada. I hope ya'll enjoy watching me struggle with one of the worst dirt biking mishaps I've ever had to deal with! Second to the time I was stuck in a mudhole near a baby bear for an hour, and finally got out just as I heard mama bear come crashing through the trees!

No kidding! I was surprised with how quickly it went back up, it was like someone was helping me push the bike! It was so steep that I wasn’t sure if it would even get back up to the trail.

Wow dude. What an adventure you were on. Didn’t know the trail. Ended up in a major situation. This is why dirtbiking is so neat. Because these sorts of things can happen so quick. One of the rare times I’d say electric start would have been a major asset. Glad you weren’t hurt too badly and were able to manhandle your bike back onto the ridge trail. Would have been a long night in those mountains!

Not fun! My worst experience was actually my last ride 2 years ago - I ended up injured, so I missed the following year, and this year, I haven't had the energy to get everything fixed and ready. I was riding some trails out in the Castle Mountain area, and the throttle cable on my YZ490 stuck just as I was hitting a patch of mud, and I went down hard. I'm just glad my bike and I didn't go off the side of the mountain. I was lucky to have people riding with me, and the trail was wide enough that one of them managed to get their small truck up it, otherwise I would have taken all night getting off the side of the mountain.

That brought back memories, glad you made it out. I started carrying a small block and tackle type kit for those situations. And yes, the shifts between 1st & 2nd has had me cussing one to many times. My 250X is on a time out and spending time in the penalty box...lol

Lol I even cut some bits out of the video where I jabbed the shifter a bunch of times only to find it still hadn’t shifted to first gear. Really gets on my nerves sometimes!

Reach under the bike on its side and shift into first in those situations...

I figured I wouldn’t be able to get my hand to the shifter, but should have tried atleast. Knowing my bike, it wouldn’t have gone to 1st without the bike running even if I jarred it around a bunch. Actually I did do that about 10 times once I got the bike upright, only to later find it stayed in neutral (I cut that part out of the video). Honestly it’s really frustrating sometimes.

@@endurobanditI’ve been in many similar situations as my bike finds neutral really easily and I also do lots of hillclimbs. I’ve developed a habit of trying to spin the rear tire while shifting to try to get the gears to fully mesh into first. I’ve found this helps me from thinking I’ve found first when it will really just pop back into neutral.
