And that, sir, is how you open a big show. For most of the 82,000 people there, they would not have seen Floor with Nightwish though a small number may have known her in her previous bands. She certainly got this crowd on board after a very few numbers, as you can see by their enthusiasm in later numbers. An old song, of course, that was a staple of many earlier shows from right back on the Once promotional tour.

Small number? Floor was well-known in the symphonic metal community long before she joined Nightwish. Her first band, After Forever, shared a lot of the same fans as Nightwish and even toured Europe opening for Nightwish. The big cheer she got when she walked out onstage, before she'd even sung a note, was because they already knew how great she was.

@@Zozo-K- Not everyone at Wacken was a Nightwish fan. Some of them might not have known her - or didn't know she was with Nightwish. At smaller gigs, especially in Latin America, everyone knew her. After Forever and ReVamp were massively popular there.

The show opener. Yes, the energy is there, and it was still there on the closing song (Last Ride of the Day) , the 15th song. it was also the concert opener at 2005 Helsinki (End of an Era DVD) with Tarja. 'This Dark Chest of Wonders' was used on the dedication page of a 1978 Stephen King Novel.

You nailed it "Yearning for lost innocence". This was a focus of many of Tuomas' earlier compositions. Hang on to your youth. Growing up brings responsibility and crushes the dreams of youth.

Indeed, I, myself also interpretate this song as a lost of a (child’s) dream of losing the “ innocence “ and whatever live brings you, on which path, you are maybe confronted with pain and trauma ‘s.. and then so now and then, you want to open the “dark” chest of wonders - to fly to ‘the dream ‘ far across the sea… to “release “ ourselves from all thé pain and “ burdens “ and Just dream again in Innocence.. ❤

Okay, you're hooked. There is a song from this concert that many reactors miss and I don't know why. It's my favorite. It's called Bless the Child. If you could fit it in somewhere I would be interested in your reaction. If you don't, I'll just harangue you until you do. Well done as always.
