When the interviewer asked Anette to sing, the look in the eyes of Tuomas made me think the interviewer was not going to be alive by the end of the interview

Exactly. I've seen bad interviews (we all have I guess) and those might have been a bit awkaward yes, but not completely rude and annoying... like this one. I'm sure Anette and Tuomas were like "uh..thank God it's over that was such an idiot..."

Look at their facial expressions... Can't imagine what went through the minds of Anette and Tuomas...

The interviewer thinks Master Passion Greed is poppy? Wow. Has he ever heard of gothic metal? That subgenre has clean female vocals and gothic metal is anything but pop.

Go Tuomas! :D Anette does indeed look somewhat different than usually, I can't really tell weather it's her hair or maybe the make up.. She just looks.. different. Her face looks a bit more "rounder" than usually. And WHY does the interviewew ask her to sing?! That's just.. awful, I hate when people do that.
I noticed that the interviewer sometimes pulls the microphone away from Tuomas while he is still speaking and talks over him. But when he did the same thing to Anette (seeming accidentally this time) he made sure to let her finish what she wanted to say and gave her his full attention. There's no shame in finding someone really hot but if its your job to interview a group you need to be professional and courteous to them all. Huge respect to Tuomas though, he has been interviewed by some real jerks over the years but has always remained composed and polite
One thing is for sure: "You can never please anybody.". When I first listened to it when it was released, I was turned off like hell. But after giving it a great spins and listens, I would say that IT IS NOT a POP album. It's a metal album with diversities! I would say the interviewer would like Anette and Tuomas be annoyed on this one. Maybe he's a Tarjaholic!?
The interviewer has absolutely no idea about Metal. He thinks that all metal is just growling and screaming, like so many people sadly do... but there are so many beautiful genres in metal! (Nothing against growling and screaming, I love it!!!)
Symphonic metal is not pop. It's a unique special kind of music and that is its beauty. It's a metal subculture, not pure metal, not heavy metal. Symphonic metal is a beautiful dreamy world. Pop is sth far from symphonic metal. Just understand it.

Nightwish only sounds pop to metalheads, to most people it is metal. Proof in point, I played Whoever Beings The Night to my non metalhead indie loving friend and he actually heard angry noise.

that's just stupid , that guy isn't doing his job properly, if you don't like the band , and you think you can't stand to do a normal interview then ask your boss to put that job to another person... and those who think it's pop, probably they are listening too much pop lately, because you pay much attention to vocals, and if you're a metal listener, you should know that vocals is another part of a song/album/band, is not everything, check out the songs... there are some heavy songs in there...
are you referring to the "monster" responsible of Nightwish's existence? Instead of spittin on nightwish with anette why don't you just avoid to listen to it... it'll be better for all , for you , for the band and for the fans
Brytney spears does Classical muscic and The beatles are making Rap. and Vivaldi does R&B, Mozart does country, Simon and Garfunkel makes Death Metal. And sure Nightwish makes Pop. And the interviewer has ears problems,I think.
also, to add to what i said... wtf, how does he call the album poppy? how are songs like "the poet and the pendulum", "master passion greed", or "last of the wilds" even remotely poppy? I mean sure maybe Amaranth is a little more mainstream sounding... but still - not pop. maybe he listened to the wrong group's album. because otherwise, i don't know how he drew that conclusion. some people are so dumb.
First half of interview- "It's a pop album" "No, it's a metal album." "So it's a pop album." That interviewer made me laugh. I want to see him interview a death metal band just to see what would he would say.
I don't know why they think she is so popy. She can't win no one likes it when she sounds like she is screaming but to me that is kind of rocky. thats what marco does. and just becasue tarja left the only element she took with her was the opera voice. Still making is symphonic goth metal only no opera. I really dont get whats poppy about nightwish. I think its just cause she is a female. if tarja didnt have the clasical style she would sound like anette. But anyways i love them both.
also, I think people just love to blow things way out of proportion. Perhaps the guy looked a bit uncomfortable, but not like "wanting to kill the interviewer". geez people do exaggerate, specially when they're just raving fans. The german guy just thought the previous albums was less poppy than this one, though perhaps he should had just asked them instead of just shoving his opinion just like that... I believed that was a bit unprofessional in his behalf, but other than that it wasn't horrible
Metal IS pop music, just in a different subculture... it's all about the image folks.... that doesn't really make it bad overall; you just won't listen to this on a cultural radio station more than on an "all hits FM" radio. I even had the chance of listening to bands people often neglect for being pop (be it Children of Bodom or anything of that same sort) on a pop station, perhaps late at night. Nightwish tends to look "academic" but it will always be dragged down when it comes to musical form
This interviewer isn't the best, and Tuomas has clearly had better interviews than this! And when the guy says "perfect" after Anette's singing, he probably didn't have a clue which part of "Amaranth" that was in, or that Anette's a great singer who can sing quietly, but can also belt notes out. It's weird: I miss Tarja, but I think Anette'll take the band far. Nightwish ftw!
Tuomas, I fully disagree with him, too... Damn, this man has an infinity patience.. Probably I would have punched him... Nightwish still THE SAME...Tarja would have gone away, even if they wanted her to stay! The only thing it's changed is the VOICE...nothing else...the music and the texts still Tuomas's...so Nightwish are Nightwish yet. Stop saying fucking stuff
agree with you too. But I just don't think anette sounds like britney spear and Christina aguliara cause thats what we characterize as pop. anette is not pop she just has a very sweet voice at time reminds me of the old leaves have eyes singer. but no one says she is popy

Hmmm..if only I wasn't so afraid of singing in public and I had better recording equipment. I would have auditioned for the new Nightwish female vocalist spot because I can sing any style that needs to be sun, even operatic styles.

Yeah, Tarja did playback in that boxing ring show. Pretty much no award show or live show like that isn't meant to have the performer play live anyhow. I saw Nightwish in Montreal in fall 07, and there was certainly no playback to be found there. :D
So...the sound had changed very much. There are many many Pop-elements in their new songs. If you listen to Amaranth so many times you'll get it. With Tarja they didn't wanted to make sound for the masses, but now...

Dont get me wrong Im sure that Nightwish is still M-E-T-A-L but there are some pop - elements in some songs because they seem to want to sound more mainstream. Many Bands now do this.
I love Dark Passion Greed because it`s real easily listening Maybe -Metal. I love Anette singing like Daisy Duck. She got her voice from her parents. We all ahve our opinion.

The interviewer was rude often too, taking the mic away and not letting him finish! Kudos to Tuomas for maintaining incredible restraint from choking this man. I thought for a sec he was going to lose it! I think I saw him stifle it a few times. And Anette for being so sweet and honest. LOL
I agree. Annette CAN sing, it's just physically taxing to sing night after night. Especially the old songs, which were written (most likely) with Tarja's vocal fortitude in mind.
I agree with you. Amaranth is not pop, but it is not so metal, but the album as a whole is magnificent... Poet is.. breathtaking. The music of the WHOLE ALBUM is so much better than before, IMO, I think Tuomas has grown as a musician a lot and that Anette is doing an amazing job =)

Son las personas mas abiertas y q generalice de esa manera me parecio terrible por eso mis respetos como persona desaparecieron hacia él, como musico los sigue teniendo.
