I will never understand all the hate directed toward this woman. She is clearly an accomplished vocalist and her interpretation of "Nemo", while different, has never lacked in passion. I am glad she spent some five years with Nightwish. I love her. Good job, Anette.
I hope one day these people look back and see how they bullied this woman. Kudos to her for still doing her thing regardless. So sad that she was treated the way she was. The comments from the band saying her "personality" didn't fit and was causing problems after YEARS of touring and releasing albums. It was a bunch of bullshit.
Totally agree, I enjoy all the 3 beautiful voices and I'm just grateful that this band has given me such an epic catalogue of music with a wide variety of flavors from which I could just pick and choose any type of song I wanna hear depending on my mood.
People were still salty about the band breakup. A lot of kids resent a step-parent no matter how nice they are simply because they're not ''real mom'' or ''real dad.'' She could sing well in a lot of songs but it all fell apart and sounded bad when she pushed her voice outside its comfort zone with some of the 1st era songs that were not at all suitable.
Because Nightwish fans were used to a classical singer with often operatic singing and Anette didn't do that. But it was still the minority that rejected her, most the NW fans learnt to love her and her albums sold real well, and she has the most popular NW-videos in RU-vid. With Floor came then new fans who haven't listened Dark Passion Play nor Imaginaerum, seen only bad quality RU-vid videos and they promote their idol by attacking other singers. NW fan base is plagued withe hateful fanbois who only support their idol and everything else is shit in their comments.
Her smile in the end. This is what I want to remember. Not fuckheads bashing her. Not spliting ways with groups. Not her personal problems. She looks unsure, waiting for crowd's reaction, and when she hears that loud cheer... Gosh I will miss you Anette, you and your beautiful voice, smile and soul. Thank you for everything you did for Nightwish fandom!
Chlobo yeah, metal played acoustically is something special sometimes. There is s Judas priest acoustic version of diamonds and rust that is just epic.
I know, I love Tarja's voice, follow her solo career (well actually there is a band) and love many of her new songs. If anything, I think she has become better since left Nightwish! But from Nightwish I mostly listen Anette's albums. the bright voice with intense belting just kicks ass and is so energetic. And she can sing really sweet too, like in "Eva" or enchanting like "Slow Love Slow".
You have right. Anette shows how great singer is in Imaginarium album and tour too. Her Scaretale is epic. I can not believe how amazingly performed it live. That was scarly epic.
+Mikhail Cazi I don't dislike Anette's voice with prog metal because of Tarja. Heck, I don't even dislike Anette generally. Anette is a great singer in her own right, but she doesn't have the training or the power to be pulling off operatic singing which is what I prefer with Nightwish. If I had been introduced to Nightwish with Anette instead of Tarja, I'd feel differently, I think.
this was my favorite Nightwish era. For some reason Anettes's voice gives me shivers. And it's a fact that Dark Passion Play and imaginaerum sold a lot more than their last album. there must be a reason for that. And as far as I know she brought so many new fans to nightwish.
They preformed Nemo the normal way on the tours from the last album, and I think they did quite well...In an interview from Oceansouls of America, Tuomas said that for the upcoming tours the band only wanted to preform songs that everyone enjoyed, and that no one was tired of playing. They actually were sick of Nemo, but Anette had the idea to revamp and play the song acoustic instead of totally dismissing it from the setlist. Great idea, because this version is amazing.
I do... but.. i mean rly.... Anette is great compared to other Pop-Voices but ... this Song is so much tarjas song.. and so much an Operaic/Symphonic Metal masterpiece...
Senseless333x2 They can arrange the song however they like. They can switch it up if they please. This is not Tarja's song. It is not Anette's song. It is anybody's song to sing, and if a listener hears a version that prompts him or her to say "good job!", who are you to come barging in and question his or her opinion? Why is it you couldn't realize this on your own? I love this acoustic rendering. Anette's head voice is incredibly strong!
She did NOT "improve." She was ALWAYS amazing. She came in on an album that was already written. That it makes a big difference. She came in and STILL kicked ass on DPP. She is not a classical opera singer, and yet she still got up there and sang the songs. That doesn't = improvement. That equals SKILL. Don't insult her. You get ur ass up there and try and sing songs written for a classical soprano singer! Imaginaerum is fab not because she improved but because she finally had a chance to shine.
She like all performers has some poor performances and there where some songs she struggled with from there back catalogue. This is expected though, imagine Tarja trying to sing Scaretale for example, it would be a bad match for her voice as good as she is at singing.
In my opinion Anette has a pure heavy metal voice. A voice so unique, beatiful and soothing and you can tell she really puts her heart into every single interpretation. Though Tarja is my Nightwish all time favorite singer, Anette's interpretation really added something special to the mix. I really loved her ways for interpreting this song
Do people these days still understand what a Metal sounds is? We are lost. She has a nice voice but it is light and poppy. That's not negative at all, she likes that style. This is not Metal people.
I don't think its really fair how Anette is sometimes judged, bad enough she dealt with bullying in school apparently (then so have many) but I imagine having it repeat in your adult life, thrown about by childish people, isn't exactly helpful. She held up well though, during her time in Nightwish, she continued to smile as best as she could, and regardless of what you think of her, that takes some serious STRENGTH not just as a singer but as a person, to be able to pull that off. I feel also, given how well she does IMO in acoustic type performances that Tuomas really didn't utilize some of her best qualities. I feel softer songs, that were lullaby like could have been mastered by her pretty well and would have helped her ease into their more powerful songs. Anette could probably pull off songs such as 'Swanheart', ''Astral Romance'', ''She is my Sin'', ''Feel for You'' and ''Ocean Soul'' if she had only been trained to do so upfront rather than starting her out with heavier hitting songs like ''Slaying the Dreamer'' and even ''Sleeping Sun'' was obviously not the best but I think that is again that she was told to practice just older songs that were face paced and mid concert she'd have to ease into a sudden soft song which might have been awkward when she clearly didnt have the practice Tarja had being so flexible. Now I love every singer this band has had, and I tend to find myself watching Anette's live versions a lot more than Floor's and even watch Tarja's solo shows more than her times with Nightwish at times but I do feel Floor is a great replacement for both singers but i do not however think she is somehow the 'best'. I think Floor is able to do songs in a Tarja like way that required a Tarja voice, Stargazers for instance, but in songs such as Ever Dream, I feel Tarja or even Anette have more of the 'magic' that song evoked, rather than the yelling Floor does in it, it just doesn't feel as emotional to me personally. I'm not bashing Floor, and only having to explain so much given how some NW fans will lash out over anything for the sake of argument lol. Back to the main topic at hand, I think Anette, while having the softest voice, easily had one of the warmest hearts, and that in itself is unique. To those who wanna go and say ''what is she doing singing this song'' or something like ''oh its so bad lol'' yeah thats your opinion, of what 'bad' is, but remember the one person guiding the way, the path Anette had to take, has always been Tuomas, im sure other members had their say in what they were comfortable with but Tuomas is the one running Nightwish and calls the shots, for better or worse. At the end of the day, the least we can all do is appreciate the efforts both past and present, like a freeze frame of time, and just see that each singer brought a different piece of magic to this great band along with the other members respectively who have poured their hearts into this work. Peace, from the US. :)
Absolutely agree. The beauty of her voice in songs like Turn Loose the Mermaids and The Crow, The Owl, and The Dove are a testament to how gorgeous in the slower, lullaby-like ballads. And her performance in songs like Imaginaerum and Scarytale is proof that when she's given material written for her voice timbre, she can ABSOLUTELY smash it.
Come on guys/gals, we all loved tarja but its been a while since she left and is doing well for herself, i love annete just as much, nightwish are still going strong and for that i am happy :D
Couldn’t agree with you more! I wish people would stop hating on any one of them, they all made fantastic music with Nightwish m, I think people should just get over it and move on
@@aegonthedragon6341 floor doesn't kick anette and tarja's butts. she just shows them her pussy and sprinkles her ass to the fans ........... she doesn't sing even though she knows how to do it when she wants to, in NW, she just comes out screaming as if they're giving it to her fucking
@@MorusRubra Nothing to say, that woman sings beautifully! But I prefer Anette's voice, her voice fits perfectly with the song and has more feelings on stage.
@@snowwhitebeautyful Tuomas knew full well how to write for Anette, just listen to Slow, Love Slow, absolutely sensational, she sounds incredible, does he know how to write for Floor's epic voice, I would say no. Anette had superior material to work with, it's why so many of us adore her. The last two albums have been disappointing, I say that as a huge Floor fan.
@@1welshdevil The Anette era showed Band's flexibility and Tuomas' creativity Anette had to endure Tarja fans mockery and it was difficult for her Anette's pregnancy during the tour was a new challenge for the band and the Floor era followed, and Floor's versatility allowed the band to play all the songs they wanted to play Tuomas' versatility and the band's acting skills brought new fans. With the EFMB album and the human: nature album the words are topical and talkative, not just entertainment.
I miss this type of nightwish. The new albums and lineup is good but all the science and space stuff just isn’t nightwish. I miss the old nostalgic sound and lyrics they used to have
Too bad for you guys. I think more of it that we have more variation. I love all the three Nightwish singers and also many singers who do Nightwish covers (big fan of the MoonSun duetto for example!). Every one is unique and you can sing a song more than one way which is beautiful. Going into ultra-fan mode one just closes his/her mind from others, and in worst case does harm to his/her idol with hateful comments, causing people to hate the singer because of the obnoxious fans.
@@Aurinkohirvi I think she was brave. You know? Accept such a big challenge like this, but despite she did well with her two albums, I think she knew that her journey wouldn't be so long in nightwish. Don't get me wrong, but she has no strength and the voice quality that nightwish required, simply because the old songs, wich were written for Tarja is to high for her range. The first thing we learn when we start studying music, is that we need to find a comfortable key for our voice, so we'll be able to sing without hurt our vocal cords, but she couldn't do that and she sang most of songs in the original key, that are to high for her, also there are some songs with modulation and this modulation put the song even more highter. In results, what we can see is Annette struggling with the notes and suffering to keep on pitch, so she did her best. That's the problem to get in a band with a previous vocalist, because the fans expect that you can reproduce the same sound and you need to deal with a key that you can't change...
@@carlosjj662 All the Nightwish girls are sopranos so their tessitura should be pretty much the same. Listen Anette sing Wishmaster ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kNaNMFgTEZg.html for example. Definately not in the same key as Tarja was, even I can say that although I can't identify notes. If Tarja's song was sung classical vocals, Anette either didn't sing it or she sang it with her contemporary style. To me Anette does very good versions of many Tarja's songs she sung, like Come Cover Me, Dark Chest of Wonders, Planet Hell, Walking in the Air, Sleeping Sun, Nemo and if she sings softly, then also Ever Dream.
It's absurd how many people thinks that the only way a woman can sing metal is using a lyrical voice. That has no sense. Anneke, Sharon, Cristina use other styles to sing and they kick ass! Also Simone has used other styles in last Epica's albums and she sounds great.
I don't think it's about that, her voice just isn't fit for Nightwish's Tarja songs so she'll eventually get dragged for the way she sang those songs that were originally sang with operatic/lyrical voice.
That was the first video I wanted to watch after Anette had been fired. I love her pure voice. She is great. Thank you for everything you've done to Nightwish Nette. We will always love you :-*
@BraennReily Thanks!! The girl singing is my friend... She has a lovely voice but yeah, it would have been better for my vid if we only heard Anette... But it is part of the live experience, people are gonna sing, and that's ok.
It's always a great pleasure and happyness for me to see Nightwish with Anette, Tarja singing Nightwish's songs with her own arrangements, great classic hits and her own songs in solo or with an orchestra, and to review the "Nigthwish Tarja's Era" on video ! :-D
Beautiful. Vastly different to Tarja, but none the worse for that. Anette brought so much more to the Nightwish party than she is generally credited with.
Anette has a very, very charming voice, and she's a very good singer who sounds live just as she sings live, and that's rare to find. It was her that brought my attention to NIghtwish. I stayed later on because the music was amazing, and now I love them with Floor, but it was her the first singer I ever heard with this band, I like her, and I never got why the Tarja masturbators hated her. I actually began hating Tarja because of them, and now I can't just stand her.
Exactly my thoughts! In the same way I kind of hate Floor - the realistic part of me know that she's a brilliant singer, fits well into the band and perfectly nails some of the songs, but the other part of me just feels hatred everytime it sees her name or face... and all that just because of her "fans" throwing filth at Anette for no reason.
taliban43 you're crazy or deaf if you think either anette or floor belong with rihanna, and because I'm actually a singer I can tell you Beyonce is amazing in her own genre, so let's not get her into this. Anette was very good live and she could hit quite low and quite high notes. She wasn't operatic like Tarja, and narrow minded fans who know nothing of singing used that as a cheap argument to insult her, not knowing that her actual abilities on contemporary singing were great. Now, Floor is on a WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL. I don't understand who you were talking about on your comment, but if it was Floor, go wash your ears, man.
Goodness I miss this era of the band. Got no words to even describe the loss when she was fired out of the band. One can say what they want about Floor Jansen, about how "good" she is, but the Anette Olzon era will probably always be the most successful and divisive era in their history. The songwriting during Anette Olzon's tenure was top notch, the band was in top shape, and there was just the music and the creativity. I think, again with no pun to Floor Jansen, that it was much easier for Tuomas to write good music for Anette than it has been for him with Floor at vocals. It shows clearly in the lack of good material on the last two albums. Of course, those albums also have their fans. But being someone who has followed Nightwish since almost their inception in the late 90s, I am rather disappointed in their latest efforts. Also, getting Floor Jansen "should" open up some doors to make music that is, in all actuality, far superior to previous material. So far that hasn't happened. Apart from Shoemaker, that actually "try" to utilize Floor a little, the rest is just meh in that respect. Strange that many, when asked what albums they prefer to listen to in the band's history, the majority still answers "the Anette era ones". One of the metal websites had a poll (can't remember which one.. there are so many), and an overwhelming number of people voted for this singer as their favorite to still listen to. That actually made me very happy, since I do the same. Very few of Floor era songs ever came into my regular playlist (Shoemaker and Pan are the only ones). I will always maintain that if they had kept Anette, their music today would have been much better off. The path they were on with her was amazing. One can speculate what made them, in reality, want to fire her out the door, but I would guess nostalgia played a pretty large part in that. Anette herself has stated many times that prior to the Denver incident, and the discussions about the tour in regards to her pregnancy, there was not much to indicate they wanted her out. But then again, same with Tarja. She had no idea before she was given the "fuck off" by them. As for Nemo, this is one of the best interpetations (spelling?) that I have heard Anette do of the song. For one of the older songs, its pretty good. Edit: I find it very funny that people say that she didn't belong in Nightwish, but praise her in The Dark Element, two bands playing almost identical music (except Tuomas just loved orchestras). What's up with that? Either she belongs in symphonic metal or she doesn't. Make up your minds :)
Wish I could upvote this hundreds of times. All of the singers are wonderful and amazing and out of this world. Literally cannot complain about any of them. That said, I do prefer the compositions from Anette's years much more than I do from Floor's era. It really bums me out, because there ARE some good gems: I love TGSOE, I actually love Elan (which has a similar vibe to Nemo imo), and Noise was catchy. EFMB (the song, not the album) is also okay if I'm in the mood for it. But the other songs just kind of fade into the background (especially from HN... none of them are memorable to me except Noise and Harvest). Floor is being SO underutilized - she can literally sing anything that Tuomas will throw at her, but it feels very much like he's staying "safe" with the compositions instead of writing anything truly groundbreaking (TGSOE is the exception. I will defend TGSOE to the death.) Whereas with DPP and Imaginaerum, EVERY single song is worth a listen. It's just superior songwriting, hands down. I love Anette's work with The Dark Element because the songs are actually written to suit her style of singing, and it shows - yes, she's improved a bit, but a lot of it is just having material that fits her! TDE's material fits right in with Imaginaerum (especially their 2nd album Songs the Night Sings), which really just emphasizes more than if Anette had been given material to fit her voice, instead of fans trying to force her into the Tarja-shaped hole in their heart, she would have shone even more.
I love her voice , she's a great singer , so please don't compare her with tarja nor floor 'cuz they're all three of them great singers , the most beatiful female voices that has and can ever exist. these lines the last endeavor to find the missing lifelines . . .
Annete is a lovely witch, her voice is very sweet and show rocks very well, this version is beautiful. Love this performance. She doesn’t need an operatic voice for a great interpretation... 😍
Bless Annette, this is one of the few Tarja songs she could tackle and that's no fault of her own. Annette does a good job here, it just sounds like she's straining. When Floor does this same version, it sounds like she is resting her voice. She lets the mic do the job. Annette sounds like tinker bell trying to break free. That's why Imaginarium was so good, especially on Storytime. Nightwish music demands a lot from a singer because of the diversity, even now more than ever because of the back catalog of the two singers and their perfect styles for that fit the music.
To be honest im glad people (just like me now) still go on about Tarja (when related to Nightwish) because i do hate change and i hate old things to be forgotten. Tarja was an important part of Nightwish history. But anyone who disses Anette's voice do really need their ears testing because she is the perfect person to have taken over. I love her voice. I think it is very magical and fantastical sounding and goes so perfect and gorgeous with the music. Long Reign Nightwish!!!!!
Finally a set of comments that do not send Anette to hell! I love Nightwish with Tarja and with Anettem, a little more with Tarja, but a few years ago, I found Dark Passion Play so refreshing; and now I can't wait to november 28th to listen to Floor Jansen with them. What I do defend is the fact that Tarja's voice is awesome (that dark-ish whatever) and gave Nightwish the uniqueness they had; however, as someone said sometimes things don't work out and band members have to go and be replaced
I love her smile at the very end of the song, she is so happy to be in the band. And the band is happy with her. All of you Anette haters have got to realize now that Tarja is not coming back, suck it up and deal with it. Anette is amazing!
I must say that the last time i dared to watch a live video from nightwish with Anette it was from the 2007 or 2008 and she has gotten better since then. That's really nice.
Daiane Aparecida a questão não é cantar mal e sim compará-la a Tarja....Tarja é tarja, tem seu estilo próprio e tbm tem o clip feito com ela.... Entretanto essa versão ficou espetacular tbm
Now that's a great idea! First, there is a great shot. Thanks for the post! Ok, her voice shaking at times a bit, but she is an angel that I can forgive her that quickly! :)
The thing is , Anette was always discriminated by all the " fans " of Nightwish . All of these " fans " did Tarja as a goddess , and that she thought it would be eternal singer of Nightwish . Because of this , Anette was never well received by the public. People never understand that Tarja has a voice , a different Anette has a different tone and another reach , unlike Tarja vocal reach . They are two totally different people , and have their differences . The songs originally got the right tone for Tarja because she was the first voice , ask another singer that she is practically equal to impossible . I believe Anette always did his best he could, but unfortunately did not please an audience that wanted a copy of the original singer. Unlike them , Floor Jansen has proven very capable of getting close to Tarja notes in other music reaches even higher scores to Tarja and Tarja and Anette different , Floor not only sings , but also feels the music that sings , I believe this has been the differential so that it could become official as a vocalist . Anette have a great voice, accept that,"fans" haters.
i agree with you 100% tarja has her own unique sound as does anette . i like floor the best because she adds her own sound but can do a very good job coping theirs and she truely sings from the heart. dont get me wrong all 3 are great singers.
You are wrong. Most of the Tarja era NW fans stayed with Anette, and her albums sold closely as much as Tarja's best album. Some ultra-fans didn't like her, but Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum are very popular albums among NW veterans. Two of the most viewed YT NW-songs are from Anette! I'm thinking it's the new Floor fans that didn't look back to NW history Tarja and Anette era who dimiss them most. They see some low quality lower production concerts and compare them to high quality modern concerts, and conclude all Nightwish before their idol was shit. Floor and Tarja are both classically trained but Anette wasn't in NW-era, so they attack her even more than Tarja. Also, there is this one great quality video from Tarja's era, "The Phantom of the Opera" that has received much praise, so attacking Tarja is not as easy as attacking Anette, who has but a few good quality music videos in YT.
Thankfully more vids of great versions with Annette are surfacing. Seems the only ones that were easy to find were where she was struggling. I found an awsome version of her doing Song of Myself from Kiev for anyone wanting to see it. /watch?v=cgHd9mZif78&ab_channel=MissNamarra
One of my favourite performances of this song. Simply beautiful and Anette sounds very good here. Yes, she had her bad nights with Nightwish, but she also nailed some songs so well and gave some fantastic performances, like this.
Anette has an amazing voice and awesome personality and thats what the band wanted. Tarjs biggest flaw was she didnt seem to get along with the band very well and it was more about her rather then the band as a whole and that ultimately was her down fall. They had a good 10 years but all honestly i like Anette better cause she really brings the band out more, can just tell how much happier they are on stage they act more like family now.
Anette Olzon is the best vocalist of the band Nightwish. After Tarja Turunen's departure, everyone expected the band to either fall apart or seek a replacement who could closely imitate Tarja. However, Tuomas decided differently. He chose Anette, who is completely unique, authentic, and sings in a special way. The tone of her voice, style, and performance are so genuine that it's impossible to find anyone similar. Tuomas understood the risk of the audience not accepting her due to the stark contrast from the previous vocalist, yet he chose to take the risk. Many Nightwish fans were disappointed, but true music connoisseurs saw this change as a refreshing one, and the band gained new fans as well. However, with Anette Olzon's departure and the arrival of Floor Jansen, the band experienced a collapse. Floor Jansen is a poor imitation of Tarja Turunen, whom half the planet refers to as "Tarja on the AliExpress." The band fell apart
Band haven't fell apart sorry. They got more new fans and are in the top of their game now with Floor. Anette was great too. No need to speak bad any of them.
This was excellent - great vocals , lead and backgrounds... excellent. Even the guitar solo was great. I wonder if they have some DVDs/BlueRays of this concert?? I can kinda hear two female lead vocals here.. I wonder if this is that we can hear her acoustically (direct) and through the PA??? Anyone have any ideas?
The second female voice is the girl standing next to me in the crowd lol. She's actually a singer and has released some stuff as Insatia, and soon another album as Catalyst Crime.
@@pastlink thank you. I was really surprised no one else in the comments (that I read) had mentioned the second voice. Thank you for solving the mystery. I'll check out her work, as she has a good voice. :-)
