Always a treat! I do have songs that belong to a particular vocalist _for_ _me,_ and that's not to diss any of the others. _Nemo_ is Tarja's in my heart, but I still love this performance. Sometimes I also have _parts_ of songs that belong to a particular vocalist, too - there are many songs where I prefer how Anette starts it, and how Floor finishes it. Floor seems to have an instinct for endings (see for instance _GLS)._

Yeah, the thing is, and we've seen this artists that have been in Nightwish and left, it's really Tuomas' music that has had an effect on how great they seem. But also, certain artists do make Nightwish greater or lesser as well. But the core, the majority, for sure is Tuomas' songwriting.

Glad you didn't pit Floor against Tarja and Anette; (Tarja, operatic style, Anette, pop). Floor is a dramatic soprano; powerful, rich, emotive voice that can sing over, or cut through, a full orchestra. Floor also sings rock, pop, and many more styles, but what makes her remarkable is her embodying songs; her emotional impact. Floor sings "Nemo", "Yours is an Empty Hope", and "Shallow" (etc.) totally differently, yet they're all Floor. I watched Floor with a friend, a veteran; her vocals visibly moved him. We later watched Sabaton's "Christmas Truce". He made it all the way to the credits, to Floor, then softly said "It's her", and teared up. I asked him afterwards what it was; he couldn't even fully describe it but he said "she isn't human", that she spoke to his soul, to everything he'd endured, yet she was also filled with so much love and hope, it seemed impossible. He felt Floor was literally wailing for the dead while celebrating their humanity and bravery at the same time. That's what makes Floor so incredible; Floor's remarkable technique is ultimately a tool, her means of speaking to the heart and spirit in a way that no other vocalist I've ever encountered can. It bears repeating; I think the animus of some to 2 of the 3 Nightwish singers in favor of another 1 is fundamentally wrong, which is why you not enabling it was good. Tarja joined Marko on his excellent just released - "Left On Mars". Those down on Anette should lay off; her "Army Of Dreamers" - (especially "All Alone") with Russell Allen released in 2022 is really good. Floor moves me like no other vocalist. A vocalist's excellent technique is more objective; her emotional impact is more subjective. If people love Tarja or Anette good for them.

It is all about feeling you have lost your way in life. This song was written during the final years with Tarja. Tuomas felt it coming and found inspiration in it for this emotional voyage.

It's really good to see you back with Nightwish, from the old Music Teacher days when you never slept (I hope you do now). This is the most played live of all Nightwish songs by a large margin and for good reason. Also a big hit at the time. For a variation, listen to the Buenos Aires 2018 version - a concert that would give you a whole new lot of meat to get into. These days Troy usually introduces this, saying "Everyone knows Nightwish fans are the most intelligent. Who can tell me the Latin for 'nobody' ? ". The audience shouts "NEMO!!!"

hello! There were certainly Tarja era songs that Annette wasn't going to "nail" because she wasn't that style of singer, and there are Annette era songs, that Tarja wouldn't "nail" especially as Tuomas wrote them with Annette's style in mind, but there are not any songs of those two Floor can't seem to "nail" often with seeming ease, and why she was the perfect third singer for them. Some I think are best in the original singer's voice (Sleeping Sun, Slow Love Slow, Scaretale) and I'd bet some of Floors songs would sound fine or great in the other two's voices (Annette's voice would work well in Noise, Tarja would do a great version of Shoemaker, both would make a very good or likely great sounding Elan or Music) but I've found you are right, in that the "worst" NW song is still very good sounding to my ear. The other's doing their styles might make a very different sounding song, but it'd likely still be a good song.

I would love to see you do a live performance from 2022/23 of this to see how it's evolved

Like you I found Nightwish to have something the other symphonic metal bands do not have. And it took me a long time to figure out. The other bands take a metal song and perform it in a symphonic manor. Nightwish takes a symphonic score and performs it in a metal manor. It's all Tuomas' writing and scoring that makes the difference.

Friend, your reactions and analysis are amazing. Either you know exactly what you are talking about, or...you are the greatest BS'r in the world. I vote for the former. I love this song but must confess this is one that Tarja really is stunning on. Not to dismiss Floor's version but this song was was written for Tarja and it shows. Hello from sunny south Florida.
