Hello The Thamesmen ! Nightwish fans here, your musical quest summoned us. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. Don't sleep on the guitarist Emppu, as this song is not representative of his talent level. He plays only what the song requires and never shows off with some ridiculous, over-the-top shredding. In this case, the song didn't require much. This concert was at the Wacken Open Air in 2013. They were the headliner for the concert and this was played in front of 82,000 people. This was the 13th song on a 15 song setlist. About Floor Jansen, their Dutch singer, well you ain't heard nuthin' yet. From death growls to opera and everything in between. Sings multiple genres, in multiple languages and can shift vocal styles from one note to the next. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, is the mastermind behind Nightwish and has been branded the "Metal Mozart" for the breadth and depth of his compositions. The orchestral and choral music you hear on the backing track is from the London Philharmonic Orchestra and associated choirs. Nightwish has been working with since about 2004. And no, it wouldn't be better in the studio. Everyone in this band is TOP LEVEL MUSICIANS. "She" is Floor Jansen, a Dutch classically trained soprano. She lives on a small farm in Sweden with her husband (drummer for Swedish metal band Sabaton), four year old daughter Freja, and her horses. She's a vocal coach, farmgirl, and wonderful soul who shares a lot (and does some killer covers) on her RU-vid channel. And yes, she's 6'1 (6'4-6'5 in her stage heels.)

This was 2013.....metal festival at Wacken, Germany. NO..NOT IN STUDIO. Nightwish must be live! FLOOR JANSEN......she’s six feet and has an AMAZING stage presence. One of the best female vocalists in the world today. Welcome to symphonic metal it’s not about guitar solos....the key here is “symphonic” .....think symphonic and choral tracks...not shredding guitar. They are all great musicians. Emppu is a terrific guitarist. He never plays over the top onanistic solos: he plays for the band and for the track. Less is more. If you watch more of their songs you will get a greater sense of how important his contribution is. He and they are exemplary.

Floor Jansen is the third and present singer of Nightwish and widely considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time, yet undiscovered by a broad audience. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands here is some background information on our Dutch Valkyrie Queen. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of this. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. September 2012 came the call from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating in this iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor Jansen was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band in 2013 as the relationship with Annette and the band was strained even before she became ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so Revamp disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RU-vid. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe, watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa'. And to see her in full opera mode watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RU-vid in the last year and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself performing this song at Wacken. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range , versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). It is apparent when listening to her sing that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Let’s face it Floor’s live vocals beat most/all? other singers studio work. Emppu/guitarist plays what the song needs. He can shred, finger-tap or anything else that the song requires. I have seen Nightwish listed as the top Finnish band in several places. Bit of trivia: Finland has more metal bands per 100,000 population than any other country. Floor has been with the band from end of 2012, and so far she has been in 2 studio albums with NW (2015 and 2020) But NW is better live, Wacken, Tampere, Wembley, Buenos Aires concerts will keep you busy the whole summer. But if you want, the band released all of the songs as lyric videos from their latest album. I suggest you listen to it in order, at least to me it's even better that way. Also Emppu the guitarist played the solo that was very fitting to this song, other songs require more shredding, but most of the time the solo follows the vocals, or uilleann pipes played by the Brit in the band Troy or whatever is best for the song.

It's great to see that Gabriel has introduced himself, the band and the rest of us in the Army. There is so, so, soooo much more for you to experience. Emppu's guitar solo is very tasteful in this performance but he can shred just fine, when appropriate. They are certainly better live and this 2013 Wacken concert is a great place to explore but following Gabriels 'menu' is a great way to discover them. I'm looking forward to you covering some more of their stuff. Ooh, they are supposed to be playing live at Wembley in December!!!

When, at first, I saw your background wall I knew you will enjoy this song. Kudos for good music taste. She is Floor Jansen and she is the most versatile and best living singer. This song was just 30%-40% of her vocal skills. About Nightwish, they always sounds much better live. Symphonic metal music needs space which ain't in studio. Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6). Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other vocalists are - Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals. Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals. Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera. The other band members are - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied. The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible. Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Romanticide, Ghost River, Storytime, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Ever Dream, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken). Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. Prepare for the Nighwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘

Their live concert versions of their songs are far better than their studio cuts. Their concert of 2013 at Wacken Open Air were directly recorded to DVD. Nightwish musicians (from Finland) and vocalist Floor Jansen (from the Netherlands) are all next level performers.

Always listen to them live, gents. I'm 74 and have been listening to music (rock, metal, classical, world, etc.) for 60 years. Nightwish is the best band I've ever heard. Much for you to explore.

Hello Guys1 I had so much fun watching you lol! The reason why NW (and other metal bands) isn't known by a lot people is the fact that the big bosses of radiostations decide what should be aired. And often metal music is thought of as rough, screaming etc.etc. NW is huge and has a very very large fanbase, the NW Army. On the 28th and 29th of May last they did 2 virtual Live concerts which was watched in 108!!! countries ( there are in total 196) and more than 150.000 viewers each concert. No artist/band has ever done such a thing. It was beyond awesome! Subbed for more NW. Btw Floor (from Flora the goddess of flowers and Spring) is 6'1 (in heels 6"3. Not that uncommon in the Netherlands as we are the largest people of the world ( by scientific research). Stay safe and take care. Greetings
