Nightwish: The Islander -Live Tampere (Glorious Performance): Reaction 

Marko is so talented. He is so unique - he has unmatched charisma and that ultimately is a reason why everyone loves him so much. I went to Marko's gig a couple of weeks ago and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Cheered me up a lot.

A great song. Composed by Marko and the lyrics by Tuomas. Every time to see them on the stage, you feel good. Their stage presence is so positive and catching.

The weasels came back. lol 2nd spoken part roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it". Marko wrote the music during his days with Tarot, but it didn't fit with them. Tuomas heard him playing it one day , decided it would make a great song, and wrote the lyrics about a lonely lighthouse keeper. The running joke is that Marko should have a t-shirt that says, 'Floor is my backup singer'.

Marko took all the cool hair for 1966, leaving little for the rest of us.

Well done guys. By far the best version. Marko at his best and his backing band amazing. If you want one from Tampa there is brilliant version of Sahara in 2016.

Nightwish also played in Tampa and reacting to "Sahara" from this concert could be a good idea.

Love this song and live is definitely the best way to go. The smile on their faces just makes them so special, the true joy of playing together is unmistakable and how many lead vocalists take a step back and do backing looking as happy as Floor did?

You picked one of my all-time favorites! I'm really glad George got to see this. He's made several references to Marko's singing in the past. This performance brings it full circle. I have struggled with this decision, but I have concluded this is the best Nightwish concert---so far. Start to finish, pure magic. The best thing Im taking away how they are having a lot of fun/just enjoying the moment.

A massive performance. Every time I hear that performance, I am reminded of the Wagakki Band from Japan. When the long woodwind pipe (similar but different) kicks in I am transported to Japan. Which is kind of weird because Nightwish have been around longer than the Wagakki Band. However, the W Band uses the (I am embarrassed, because I can't remember the name of the instrument) long flute more often. What came first, the chicken or the egg? I have no Idea. Both cultures have a long history of strong wind instrumentals and I respect the artistry of both. However, I am going to give the nod to Nightwish in this instance, probably just based on their reach, and their more traditional European style. Beautiful music.

There's a song and performance that I can't go a week without watching. Absolutely love it! Great reaction and commentary.

Marko is Gandalf the White meets Viking. Tuomas is Aragorn Frodo hybrid. Emppu is forever positive Sam, mixed with the playfulness of Merry and Pippin. Kai is the great elven smith who is forging the rings of power (also called drums), Troy is Theoden king, and Floor is the elvish warrior queen.

Always chills when the others come in and their harmonies at the end are so good! His voice is great in this one but for me he is at his best in the High Hopes tribute.

When I saw them in 2012, Nightwish played this a bit closer to the original arrangement, but the feeling was magical. We were all swaying and smiling and singing along. It’s easily the greatest sense of fellowship I’ve had at any show I’ve been to.

Hey again, Alex and George. I always love the joy in both of your reactions. By the way, by this point Troy was a full member of the band. He and Floor became official members of Nightwish shortly after the Wacken 2013 concert. Someone once asked Troy what he couldn't play and he said "Hockey". Keep the Nightwish live performances coming.

Marko is a multi-talented musician who has his own album out called Pyre of the Black Heart which I thoroughly recommend listening to.

Hahahaha, Troy is a full member of Nightwish and he sits on a prop that looks like a rock. The whole stage is builded like that at the end of the show: the greatest show on earth is the last masterpiece they performed here in Tampere, Finland. :D Absolutely masterpiece , based on dr. Dawkins books and telling the story of the birth of the universe and evolution on earth

You asked about rock.. It actually is (well..is made to look like)a fossile. A trilobit. This tour was about sciense, history, evolution etc so ofcourse Troy is sitting on a fossile and Kai has dna double helix on basedrums skins. Btw..so does floor on her outfit.

Stunning performance have watched many times. Love it Marko just so good. Oh by the way as Nightwish and the family connection to Sabaton if you have not done the First Soldier you got to check it out. Then their new Motorhead cover 1916. All I can say is WOW 👌. Bring a tissue do powerful. Saw them live a few weeks ago in Glasgow. Best concert ever they are that good 👍. Keep on rocking love you guys.

Such a fantastic song and a great performance. I would suggest reviewing (or at least watching) Nightwish's cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" sung by Marko, it is amazing.

Troy sits on a rock because you have to sit down to play the uilleann pipes. They cannot be played while standing. A great way to slow the show down for a few minutes. It works well for your Nightwish week as well. Commander Data was rockin that Hammond and the crew was feeling it too!

There's someone who with luck may comment, who smwas telling a story recently about meeting Marco in a bar, told him his son was a fan and Marco insisted on going back to his house to see the son. He can tell the story properly. Troy sits on a large ammonite in much of the tour, as the tour is based on the EFMB album about evolution: it was Troy that pointed Tuomas to Dawkins' books which eventually led to the album theme so I think he gets to choose the prop he wants. Marco contributed much to the album, but this song is from Dark Passion Play, before this tour.

Hi fellows. I'll get straight to the heart of the matter, i.e. the "Viking" thing: it's all Dutch, you know. Don't believe the Sturlusonians and their tall tales. Earliest longboat finds are all in Dutchieland. And it's "Wijkings" (or "wijkelingen", from "wijken" meaning to flee, regroup) since the early wijklings had to flee the Carolingians. Dani, Frisii, Franks, Saxons and all manner of "Northmen" lived on the shores of today's Flanders, N-France (Normandy..) and the Netherlands. Nice reaction guys. Actually about the viking thing. There has been found more viking swords from Finland, than from Denmark or Iceland. Only Sweden and Norway are front. So this is perfect example how Swedes has hidden Finnish history during Swedish rule. There were vikings in Finland.

Viking was not ethnicity, it was a profession. But that said, Baltic Finns did take part into that profession. The trips to the Black Sea and Silk Road started from the end of the Gulf of Finland and people living around the Gulf at the time were those Finns, so it was natural for some of them to join the bands. The very first Czar is told to have been a viking from group called Rus - you can see his picture on Ukrainian currency even today, wearing what looks a lot like a viking headpiece. And when DNA testing the living known relatives of the first Czar dynasty the Y haplogroup was found to be N1C1, which is almost exclusively found in descendants of the Finnic tribes. We of course don't know for certain where the first Czar was born, but in high likelihood his other descendants live now in Finland and Estonia. Rus people gave their names to various concepts, given their mobility and influence. Originally the word came from expression meaning "people who arrive by rowing". Later Kievan Rus, the first Slavic Empire and seat of the first Czar was named after them, and thus both Russia and Belarus carry the word rus. What's more, Finns call Sweden 'Ruotsi', which, too, derives from Rus. So we don't know if Marko really is a viking, but he could well be!
