And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Yes, Floor Jansen is a vocal coach. As I heard, she called herself "a vocal nerd". She's one of the greatest female singers of our time, imho, doing all that vocal acrobatics you noticed (and appreciated, as a professional) live, in an "open air" metal concert. That's the high level of Nightwish's musicianship. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6' Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. Ghost Love Score is a fantastic song and Floor does it brilliantly, but it doesn’t show the full range of her vocal talents. Her rendition of “Phantom of the Opera” with Henk Poort on the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers shows her more classical abilities, while Nightwish’s “Yours Is An Empty Hope” showcases her in full metal mode.

I was the bullied, insecure kid who dreamt of singing without knowing that I had a voice for it. "Because of my dedication at school I dared to crawl out of my shell and started to sing! I became more confident of myself and made friends and was forever in love with music. "Nothing is as wonderful and honest as making music together. Nothing connects as music can. Music education is therefore very important for many reasons. Floor's Wiki Bio Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. After After Forever split up she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?! She used to play the guitar, piano and flute and has completed several years of music studies. From the age of 16 all during this period she was fronting the the Band Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997 until they disbanded in 2009. She then did vocal coaching and formed her own band called Revamp which officially broke up in 2016 because of Floor's commitment to Nightwish. Floor is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and if you continue to experience her performances you will see just how versatile a performer she is. She can sing in any genre and in many languages, here in front of 80,000+ metal-heads at the Mecca of Metal, Wacken Open Air, she gave a complete blow out performance along with the band, one that many of us who have seen many concerts will tell you is top 5 period!!!! This was a very interesting video, informative. I enjoy it. Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish! In addition to the band, you will hear a symphony orchestra in the background. Nightwish has been using the London Symphony Orchestra or part of it in the background with their studio albums since 2004. Also two different choirs (adults, children) as needed. In live concerts, they play it from the backing tape and perform themselves on top of it. Everything that happens on stage is for telling a story. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights, led panels, background music (symphony orchestra) and music played by each band member, vocals ... And each song has its own story. And because every story is different, that’s why Nightwish sounds different in every song and within the song there are variations depending on the course of the story. So, if they now have about 120 songs, that means 120 stories. Same as 120 books or movies ... All different. That makes this band really interesting. You can never know what will happen next. As it is in a good movie or book. They have two trained singers. Floor Jansen and bassist Marko Hietala. And as you noticed, you can really hear it. If you make another video where Marko also sings, you will notice how good those two are together! We think (Nightwish Army / fans) Floor is the best female metal singer in the world. Valkyrie goddess. If we draw a line and there is opera at one end and growling at the other, she is, to our knowledge, the only singer who can sing all the way through. We understand, of course, that a true opera singer is better in her own art. But others who are able to sing at the top level of each singing style between the extremes probably don’t exist ...

I have followed this group since the mid 2000's. Floor is a vocal coach. All of the musicians of Nightwish have extreme educations in music. The pianist Tuomas Holopainen is the band composer (note I said composer, not songwriter) for about 90-95% of their work. This band has 3 highly skilled singers! Floor, Marco (the bass player- also known as "the voice of Finland"), and Troy (multi-instrumental including- flutes of all sorts, Uilleann pipes, and strings). They all have solo and other group work. But come together for their long-standing and ongoing Nightwish work. They not only do rock, but they can also do just about everything. As a long time musician myself, I consider this group as musicians- musicians. They are a joy. So welcome to the "Nightwish Army"! You will not be disappointed. You will be pleasantly surprised at their diversity and daring.

From real metal growling to real Opera (and everything in between,pop,heavy rock,metal,jazz,musical etc she can do it all at top level. Besides more Nightwish i would recommend you to listen to her last year performance of Phantom of the Opera with one of the official phantom male singers Henk Poort. Look for Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom of the Opera Floor Jansen en Henk Poort, it will blow you away.

Nightwish is a a true godsend of music . All the songs as you delve deeper on this journey will just bring you to amazing places. And reacting to nightwish is quite the experience! I have seen them live and plan to see them again. When I was younger with Tarja this was my favorite song due to the symphonic parts of it and the choir. Bit of background to this: you would never, never tell from her spectacular performance and presence on stage, but when this mega concert happened she had been with Nightwish for just a literal handful of shows. The band had a break up mid-tour (long story) with the previous singer and Floor had just 48 hours to step in and m get ready for the first show. I don't remember how many others passed before Wacken, but not many. Early on in this concert, Marco (bass) introduces her to the crowd since she is still new. Right before "She is my sin" which, by the way, is always good to react to! None of the songs were written for or with her, yet she immediately made them her own and, as you can see, she is such a commanding figure on stage too. Welcome to Nightwish, you are about to be drowned in suggestions for more reactions. You'll soon discover that Marco is an amazing singer in his own right too, that Tuomas (keyboards) is the mastermind of the lyrics and music, that Jukka slays those drums, Emppu is an amazing guitarist and you still have to see Troy stepping up on stage with flutes and bagpipe... if I may, I suggest waiting a bit before going for the juggernauts "the poet and the pendulum" and "the greatest show on earth". Start from the short ones, such as Romanticide, Dark chest of wonders (Wacken opener), or I want my tears back for a first taste of Troy as well. But I'm sure you already got lots of suggestions!

I've seen some of your other stuff, but now that you've done Nightwish you've left me no choice. I had to subscribe. Looking forward to seeing your journey.

You are consistently one of the best analyzers of singers and songs. Many of the others react, but too many of them have no idea why the music is good or how the singer is producing the notes or using dynamics to promote an emotion. You should have many more subscribers, and for that matter, views. I routinely search for your videos.

Floor Jansen is the 3rd singer in the band, after Anette and Tarja. Each singer brought their own style to the band, so everyone in the Nightwish army has their favourite vocalist. One of my favourite Nightwish songs is Ever Dream, live at Wacken 2013. The belting that Floor does just hits all the right spots. Also, I recommend checking out Storytime, live at Wacken and Romanticide live at Wacken. Very different songs from Ghost Love Score, but still utterly incredible performances from the whole band. For more of Floor, I recommend checking out her solo performances on the Dutch tv show, Beste Zangers. Her performances of Lady Gaga’s Shallow, Winner by Tim Akkerman and her duet with Henk Poort on The Phantom of the Opera (my personal favourite) just show the versatility she is capable of. I haven't caught one of your videos in a few months, but I do very much like the new background you're filming against.

This may be and remain my No. 1 favorite song, singer, band, and performance ever. Bought the live album of the concert. Floor had stepped in big footsteps when she had joined Nightwish roughly half a year before this concert as Anette was not able to continue the tour. Especially since the first vocalist Tarja with a great operatic voice and style - for whom the song was originally composed. After Tarja left, I felt like although Anette is not bad at all, the magic fusion of metal and opera was gone. I didn't even pay much attention, when the band had quite unexpectedly switched to a stand-in vocalist in the middle of a tour. Just couldn't believe the new voice on stage could bring this feeling back. I kind of ignored it, and missed some of the best years of the band until I dared to watch a reaction video of this song maybe 1.5 years ago to realize how wrong I was and how much I had missed. Especially in this song Floor managed to exceed my expectations and the final belt was her own idea to add a climax to the song not existing before. She really nailed it and made this song her own now. I learned, that a change in a band can also improve the music and overall performance greatly, which often enough didn't happen with other bands.

After listening to your analysis I am now as well as listening to Floor I am watching her more closely. Very interesting. I think it gives me an even greater appreciation of Floor and her fantastic voice.

Cool that you mentioned the crazy time signature changes. They rarely get commented upon in the reaction videos.The performance of the drummer is equally amazing... Well all the musicians are spot on actually. Your comments on how Floor modulates her voice are super interesting too.

She even makes warm-up exercises (at 12:45 on your vid) sound great even though they're in the middle of the song! Your remark about Nightwish harking back to the good ol' days of prog rock was spot on.

The only woman I know that can keep her voice light but so powerful and forward and be able to switch up her technique in a snap going from. Head to chest to belt and mix all of them at points. She trained hard and it shows. I would put her up against anyone today. No one can do what she does and have these songs over 10 minutes long and a very long set. Her voice is her instrument and she plays it to me better than anyone alive. She can make you Wana ru. Through a wall and the very next minute have your eyes watering. Couple that with her story telling with her body language in the songs. Itll be long after I'm gone from this world before someone can say they can compete with Floor and her amazing voice. Glad you liked this man. Go down the rabbit hole on this band with her singing...you will never be disappointed ✌️
