Thank you so much for uploading this. At the age of 57 I am just getting to know Nightwish. I ask myself, where the bleep have I been? They are SO what I've been waiting for since, I think, birth. Tuomas has entire galaxies whirling around in his head, how he keeps it all straight I don't know. I have watched the "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours" as well. Oh, the foreshadowing in THIS film is just EERIE!!! The fun rehearsal scene at the end of this film is a taste of what it all COULD have been. Unfortunately, being in close proximity with a group of folks for that long, and not being able to get AWAY from each other can be the kiss of death to even great relationships. Add in the strain of a nasty flu going around, EEEEESSSSHHHHH. Watching Jukka is heart tearing. I can see that his eye are becoming dark holes. I am on disability, partly due to insomnia. That, coupled with some chronic illness trouble, wiped me out. I am at the point, after YEARS of trying to deal with it, of occasionally being able to get about 3 hours of sleep in one stretch. I can add a couple of hour long naps in there through the day. I don't honestly know how he managed to keep going through the tours, delivering full on power house performances. If someone is just coming across this film and doesn't know the band or their work, oh you are in for so much joy! They sparkle my scenery!
Same here! Lol on a whim I googled female fronted metal bands and up popped Nightwish who I never heard of before. And I am 63 now and finally going to get to see them live next May in Massachusetts! Was supposed to be this October for our 45th wedding anniversary. Was a little disappointed but now Beast in Black is playing with them so I’m pretty excited about that!
1:18:45 Oh man it's moments like this that make watching these old documentaries extra special. Everyone seems so happy during this, yet Annette was gone less than a year later.
The amount of great wordplay that gets lost in the translation is immense. When emppu says he got beat up real good he says "Hulumuuttivat hevaria oikein urakalla" which roughly translates to "they made the air flow past the metal guy like they were working by the contract". "hulumuuttivat" could also be interpreted as "they blew my hair around heavily"
Awesome documentary!! It feels like I personally know all of the band members now...the part with the children's choir gave me goosebumps. Tuomas is a freaking genius and I can't wait for them to make an album with Floor!
Jukka stepped down, he was NOT replaced. Kai Hatto was drum tech who is very nice (I met the band when they played in Colorado Springs) but he does not have the energy of Jukka. Even in the program for the concert they remembered Jukka in one picture.
Nevalainen would not be able to take part of Nightwish's eighth album and its subsequent tour due to insomnia, thus making the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful the first Nightwish recording without his participation. Nevalainen still handles the day-to-day affairs of the band, though. Kai Hahto (Wintersun) took his place in the album and on the subsequent tour
Nah, the band is definitely more charismatic with Floor in it. Their live shows went from like 8/10 to 11/10. These days you can just see that they're actually loving the shows and not just putting on fake smiles while actually fighting behind the curtain
@@user-su6wy3bj4v No the time with Annete's era was perfect. She is a very charismatic person. I saw a lot of concerts with her in RU-vid of course and they had a good chemistry. Annete's problems had to do with her ex husband and the custody of their first child. 2010 Annete born her second child with her new husband she named him Nemo and in Imaginearum tour she was pregnant to her third child. She wanted to stop the touring after America and Australia because her pregnancy and NW didn't want to. They replaced with Floor only for the rest of the tour but Annete didn't want this. That's the story behind the scene. Annette is great to Imaginearum album songs who wrote Tuomas for her. It's pity for us who didn't have a live DVD with the tour with her voice like the end of an era with Tarja to remember her but of course we have the movie Imaginearum the score.
@@stasa-X wrong, there was plenty of actual fighting between anette and the band. And Tuomas said "she had a different plan for Nightwish than they did". Just look up the documentary of Floor joining mid-tour. The band also had troubles because Anette couldn't sing some of their earlier songs so they had to modify the setlist more. Don't let your crush on Anette blind you man.
@@user-su6wy3bj4v I am a very old NW fan since Tarja's era i know what happens that days, the problems beginning from annete's pregnancy, because they must stop the rest of the tour, Floor came because this pregnancy. If they wanted to leave Annete they stopped Annete in the finish of the tour like Tarja no in the middle. Imaginearum was a very high selling album the second after once with Tarja. No one wants to leave a very good singer without emergency reason in the middle of tour when you already have full conserts. If Annete couldn't sung some Tarja's songs it's very natural, different voices and Annete sung fewer songs in that tour because she had already 2 albums with NW and no need to sung over 3 songs from Tarja's era. She sung acoustic Nemo who was very good and higher than hope who is more fantastic than Tarja in my opinion and dead to the world or come cover me who she is really amazing. Every singer has their fans, you love Floor,i like Floor too but if may i choose an album i prefer Tarja's and Annete's era album.
@@stasa-X Well so am I, and Finnish. I remember both Tarja and Anette getting kicked off the band and the interviews and everything on the Finnish radio from those times.
Also as funny as that "roasting of Marco" thing is, I have to disagree with the comedian. Finnish guys are not ugly. I find them very attractive. They seem to have good strong hair, grows long and thick, no early baldness or anything. ;)
I can relate to what Tuomas says at 1:14:11 . I'm not the kind of musical genius that Tuomas is, but I feel also that making music and writing lyrics is the best way to channel my emotions.
Fascinating doco, apart from the 'Marco's roast' crap. What a stunning band, no matter which incarnation. Now I'm off to watch Floor sing Storytime..... at Wachen. :)
I've always got mixed feelings about such documentaries. I can't help but watch them, now that I've listened so much to the music. But it sort of takes the magic out of it. Like when you see a magician explain his illusion and you go 'oooh that's how he did it', and then feel extremely disappointed because it seems so mundane and obvious. The same thing with food. When you get served a really excellent dish at a great restaurant, you absolutely love it. But then when you get the recipe and make it yourself, now that you know what's in it, it's not so special anymore.
For me it just opposite! Seeing these documents makes me love them even more, make me appreciate them even more than I already did. Thank god, lucky me :)
11:36 Oh... it says "saluuna" (as in Western saloon). I read it first as "sauuuna" which would probably have been a joke about sauna for really long sessions.
"Jukka, you're not needed on the next album" Ooooooo! And he wasn't even involved on the next album(endless forms most beautiful). Hah. Funny coincidence. Hopefully he'll be involved on the next album.
Sammalsarvi yes, I also hope so. But, the same happend as about a year before firing Tarja she said in interview she didn't knew what she would be doing next year.....
0:06.30 "Really, when are you going to fire Anette Olzon? I understood you have always fired your singer when it turns out she doesn't put out for the guys?" ...Not much of a joke anymore :D
@@mrstxx2048 I don't know which one they meant but the "Learn the setlist in 48 hours" one here on RU-vid heavily implies that she was well enough to perform and that she didn't want to, or that it would have been okay if she was sick if there weren't other issues. Personally I view the illness as a trigger for the early dismissal but I doubt she was ever going to make it past the Imaginaerum tour. I think the rest of the band are very much a "hell or highwater" kind of thinker when it comes to shows, while Annette was thinking about giving her best performance and preserving her instrument.
Oh what a nice Place. A Birthplace of many Songs and their safe little heaven. Donzdorf. Dorf means Village in German. In was für einem Kaff ist das denn? Lol from a Village somewhere in Germany to Montreal. The Contrast is funny. Tuomas and Emppu in a Suit. Hey good looking! Troy is looking cool in it. Get him something like that for the Shows. Lol
Annette was Swedish and the rest of the band are Finnish, I don't think she spoke Finnish and as the film is in Finnish, it made more sense for her to speak in English, as they all speak that. Does that make sense?
Gordon Heaney Anette was the only swede, and almost the whole crew were Finns so it's more fun and easier to talk in Finnish. You can say anything without thinking "what was it in English".. :P And to you SweetenedInsanity, yes they all can speak English very well, but you don't really think "audience" in those situations, because It's almost like a diary.
