In true Nightwish fashion, Floor is sitting on the drum stand as to not draw any attention away from family member Marko. I've rarely seen any band so secure in themselves that they do not worry about the individual attention over the group. Watching Floor and Marko sing Ava Maria, and Marko bury his head into her shoulder at the end demonstrates the true affection between friends. I've never seen a one of them compete for the spotlight over the group and I love them for that. In my opinion, the greatest collection of talent on the planet and that comes from the sharing and the collaboration. Two and a half months and counting before I get to see them live! It will make my decade!

People evolve. People move one, in diverse ways. People LIVE!

You have to appreciate how sweet Floor is to always step back (in this case sit down) so that Marco (or someone else) can showcase their talents. How special is it to have Floor be your backing vocalist?

Troy's guitar playing using an E-bow is beautiful

To put Marko's opening monologue in context, this was in London in 2015 not long after the Paris nightclub bombings. Marko composed the music, Tuomas wrote the lyrics. The Islander from the Tampere show is another Marko song with his softer voice. He also sang lead on the cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes from the End of an Era show.

Marko has the greatest backup singer in the world. Floor is sitting on the drum riser. It is Marko's time to shine. Nightwish, as you can hear, are not metal all the time. Loved it Bisscute! Emppu was taking a little beer break. Be well lovely lady! Peace.

Marko leaving had nothing to do with the band, but with corruption in the music industry. Not much more was said; he just announced that he needed a break about a year ago. We don't know if he will return or not, but he is dearly missed.

Marko has been in a few bands since the eighties and i feel his voice has that eighties feel still that i love very much. He has been a lead vocalist before. And funny enought Floor has been a backup vocalist before when she was 16 and with the band After forever before she became the lead vocalist for that band. Talk about backing vocals. Floor's sister Irene Jansen is one of the backing singers for Ayreon. Do check out Every body dies.

Hello Bisscute, do you have recognized, that in Concert Nightwish members move into the Background/ Backstage, If they are not involved in a leading Part of the Song. In former reactions of you you had been confused, when for example Floor left the stage while an interludium was played. Nightwish is really unique.

There is a Nightwish fan-joke circulating around and being posted under a few reactions to their song The Islander, live at Tampere 2015 (highly recommend you to watch and react to) but it is also perfectly fitting here: "If you work really hard, you might someday be cool enough to have a long, braided Viking beard. If you work even harder, you might be cool enough to have the beard AND play bass for the greatest band in the world. But you'll never, ever be cool enough to have the beard, play bass for the greatest band, AND have Floor Jansen....as your BACKING VOCALIST!!" :-D That pretty much describes the insane amount of talent concentrated in this amazing band (which is more like a loving family). One is simply grateful to be alive during their time and witness it. As for your other questions: Emppu just does not play in this song - they have a few songs where not all of them need to be on stage. Nothing wrong with him :) Marko has his personal reasons for leaving that have nothing to do with the band but mostly with the corrupt music industry. He did not shut the door completely, and there is still some hope among the fans that he could return one day, but it is all just hypothesizing, none of us really knows. The song is not on any of their albums, it was written for a Finnish film Lieksa, others can educate you more about it :)

Nice reaction! If you like Marco's voice, you could also check out the Band Delain where Marco did guest vocals on a couple of songs. He also went on tour with them. There are, for example, good live versions of the songs "Nothing Left" and "The Gathering".

You are a great reactor, because you listen and understand the music and the lyrics - and how the all contribute to make the perfect experience of each song. This is exactly how Nightwish music should be experienced. I would suggest "The Carpenter" from Buenos Aires 2018, because here it Troy doing the lead in some parts, and Floor backing, until she takes over. Troy has a vulnerable and soft voice, which you can hear in this one - and even more in "Harvest" from the Human Nature album 2020, where Troy is lead all through the song. But I think you should wait a little longer before you go into the Human Nature album.. You still have so many songs from Wacken 2013, Wembley and Tampere 2015/16 and Buenos Aires, to experience. You have still only scratched the surface of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities 😁

Hello mrs Biscute, nice reaction, Marko was a lead singer before he joined Nightwish in the band Tarot, basicly you can say NW got 2 lead singers, just using one more in front, being Floor of cause. Well Marko is not in the band anymore, he stepping back to take care of hes health, and also did have a thing with really feeling the music i think, main reason still being he did have to take care of himself, and hes health, what i understand of cause, so if he feel for it, one day he might return to the band, but right now he is not a member anymore, and surely is missed, however Tuomas is a master in creating great music with what he got to work with, so its not the end of fantastic NW songs, because of this, but i love Marko, hes voice, and talent, and wish him good health, and hope he return one day. I love watching your Nightwish reactions. If you liked this song, you will also really like The Islander live at Tampere. Marco not only left the band, but left public life, at least for a while. He has been a professional touring musician for 30+ years and was struggling with depression, and feeling disillusioned by the music industry. He needed a break and, of course, deserves one. Emppu was just backstage, sitting out this song.

Marko has been getting treatment for depression since 2010 and later was diagnosed with ADHD. There was interview with this info. He also got a baby lately.

A couple of things to say here: This song was made for a movie and was originally only performend by Marco and Thuomas plus strings. In this live version, Troy uses an e-bow, a device that can make an electric guitar sound a bit like a violin. Troy also uses the e-bow in the live version of “The Greatest Show on Earth”. As for hearing Marko sing, there are a number of suggestions I can make. First of all, there is hist last Nightwish song: Endlessness. This is from their latest album, and given Marco quit Nightwish, you will not see him sing this version live. The tone of the song combined with the knowledge of Marko having left gives the song a king of fatalistic definite feeling. Other great performances of Marco with Nightwish are “The Islander” (check the live version from Tampere) and the cover of “High Hopes” from the End of an Era concert. Beside this, there is a beautiful version of “Ave Maria” performed by Marco and Floor for a Christmas concert in Finland.
