Indigenous youth, Elders, knowledge keepers, mentors and staff share their experiences from Niigan Mosewak, 2022.
Niigan Mosewak is a leadership camp for Indigenous youth aged 13 to 17 years old, facilitated by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Indigenous Policing Bureau. With the support of community and participation of leaders, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, the camp focuses on life promotion, self-confidence, team building and health and wellness. The camp is delivered in partnership with the Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity, Redtail Hawk Training & Consulting, and with funding support from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Niigan Mosewak, or “Walking Forward” in Ojibway, is delivered in the spirit of reconciliation and is one small way the OPP can contribute to building and improving relationships with Indigenous communities.
