+Tyler Durden because she was released as an artist the week before 911 and so was the first Alecia Keyes song. Alecia was quieter and sang of forever love and the country could only send one into stardom during such a bad time. Alecia just fit better. Personally I think Nikka should have gotten the attention...
Nikka Costa Rocks out of this fine long version performance of Everybody Got Their Something, With funk and a little bit of church in this tune, You can't beat that! You go ahead Nikka with your fine bad self! The Roxy at it's finest!
She is my favorite live performer of all time. No one comes close to the energy and talent of Nikka Costa. The three times I’ve seen her in concert are my three favorite concerts I’ve ever been to.
saw this chick singing the in and out of breaks for jimmy fallon's late night show with his house band last night and was totally BLOWN AWAY by what little I saw.. couldn't hear but just a few seconds each time and I would rewind to hear her again and again..I had to find her on youtube for more!! I'm a female vocalist myself and am not easily impressed, but this girl... DAYUMMM!
....i remember just getting so hype the 1st time i heard it...i almost started crying...i am of the generation that grew up on SLY...i just dance those old dances and pretend i am on SOUL TRAIN...
One sexy, talented, underrated and has soul Loved her since she came out. She should have been huge. What they force us to listen to is mostly computerized noise and someone with her talet should have been the next big thing. Nikka ROCKS
Wow - if Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, and Sheila E. had a love child with Sly Stone..... it would be Nikka Costa. I'm checking out all of her stuff on I-Tunes. Thanks for the video post - awesome singer, awesome performer.
Janis Joplin meets Sly and the Family Stone...that.s the vibe I get! Not ashamed to say 1st time hearing this...after skipping through "All About Steve"! Inspires me to do some art ...hmmmm?!
Its like listening to live jazz, when they really get into it it doesnt matter if every note is perfect, all that matters is the connection between performer and crowd.
She's actually Italian-American! Daughter of musician & record producer Don Costa who was from Boston. She was born in Tokyo while her dad was touring around the world.
I’m 58, and I have everything planned out for how and where I’m going to propose to my girlfriend in Spring 2025-an’ you can be darn tootin’ that this crazy-talented wonderful, vibrant woman is in the mix--oh, and, yeah, Nikka-❤
When it comes to listening to great jazz, the notes usually are on key. Just because the notes are improvised, like in scatting for example, doesn't mean that's a good excuse not to be on point. And most likely the performer is connecting to the crowd because a bunch of them are high/huge fans who don't care about the sound quality.
I can't agree with that. Joplin had a powerful voice, but she might rival her. Aretha Franklin would not appreciate this, but she'll never read it anyway: this woman has her best qualities and improves them....She may be the next "Queen of Soul," although I've always actually thought that title belonged to Gladys Knight....
Ok I know this is not the lyric but seriously I keep hearing " Make you smile like nearly beat a child." I can't stop laughing whenever this song plays at work just because I mis-hear the lyric every time.
@richcapo Her voice lacks the same power she has on the album version of this song. And they are a few off-key notes spattered throughout this performance. *shrugs* Some people are more gifted singing live than others. This isn't a terrible performance, but it's nothing mind-blowing either. Mediocre.
