Hi Sebastian, Well, I shoot ilford hp5 almost exclusively as it enables me to push and pull with predictable results, my choice of dev is Rodinal if i`m feeling like I need a bit of grain in my pictures, or if I am pulling i will use Ilford perceptol, stunning grain free results and Ilford microphen if i shoot box speed or push develop,. I also use Ilford ID11 as this can pull and push to a degree if i am low on stock of the other two devs . I`ve tried other developers but always come back to these 4 developers because they work.I tend to use Ilford Rapid fix as my usual fix as it works .Hope this helps, I recommend that you use the official Ilford dev chart for timings and not the big dev chart, i find i get the best results when you don`t go off piest. Hope this helps

Can`t say i`m familiar with that kind of developer, try using a standard developer something like Rodinal and a seperate fix say ilford rapid fix, also when you have used your chemicals, buy a can of swan butane gas, squirt a little in to the bottle and will make your fix last longer, i can re use my fix up to 10 rolls saving loads of money . Also don`t bother with a stop bath as distilled water will do the trick.or if you have a water filter, that will be just as good. hope this helps

Thanks for all the tips, really appreciate it - I was looking at bellini hydrofen as another choice instead of a Monobath

Hi The official ilford dev chart has two versions one with just the ilford dev timings and the other with both ilford and non ilford dev timings, this one does have rodinal timings written in red , so as not to confuse you.

HI, sounds interesting, fine grain dev, i reckon i would use it at 1=39 to extend the dev time and help lower contrast with bright subjects, I am familiar with bellini products, i use there ornano bromorapid cooltone paper dev, and bellini super fix f205 both superb products , let me know how you get on, Best

Thank you - I've only ever used Monobaths, but think I really need to find a dev and fix that is easy to use and hopefully produce better results!

Hi , I`m probably not the first to say it, looks like your shots are underexposed. Agfa apx is a low contrast film , so surprised to see so much grain, what developer are you using. Also are you shooting in auto or manual, i reckon dial in at least + 1 exposure compensation minimum as film hates being underexposed. Best

Yes that's an interesting one, as I shot these with my Nikon F5 and it is usually spot on with exposure - but will check if it's been set different by mistake. I use Bellini FX6a, but it has been said I should check or remember when I opened it as that might have gone bad now!

Which developer were you using for those images?

I use Belini FX 6a Monobath to develop all my images - did a constant agitation for 4 minutes via guidence online etc, I might extent that to 5minues next time I us it.

Ah ok, Agfa APX is a strange film and I couldn’t get my head around the “look” of your images. They just didn’t look as crisp as I would have expected from the F5 combo even allowing for APX. The APX film gives low contrast and soft images so that might have been part of it but it usually retains highlights well. Must admit I’ve not got on with it so I may be a little biased 🙂I also default to a Bellini product but their Hydrofen one shot developer it’s not a mono-bath though, works a dream with Tmax 400.

@@Nick_r that sounds interesting - I might give that a try just to see if I like the results better

Worth a try, if you’ve used Rodinal it’s the same method but far better results. Simple but effective, best get a syringe with long blunt needle at the same time as makes measuring a doddle. Nik and Trick in Folkestone used to sell both, probably still do. I’ll email an example, if I can find your addy

I saw that Nick and Trick have both the dev and fixer... Super cheap too!! My email should be on the about me section on here, would love to see some results!

Never keep your batteries in the camera, if they leak your camera is ruined.

People don't come here for the professional presentation of photography for no reason 🤣... Thanks for the comment really appreciate it - I've got another 4 rolls of APX so hopefully I'll get it right some day!

Waaaay too much talking. When you have to shoot, shoot; don’t talk!

I have to say, I LUV my Nikon F5 & F6, but your video convinced me not to ever buy AGFA APX 400 film.. Just not a high ISO film shooter at all.
@SebastianOakley
@SebastianOakley 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment, APX does have a certain character that is an "acquired taste" and if you don't like high ISO films that's your own personal preference. I tend to like them

It shouldn’t look like this. Terrible scans I’d say

Too be honest, I think I need to review my whole development and scanning setup when it comes to film as I'm not happy with it - all will be explained in a new video
