Had one of these as a teen as well. Unearthed it a couple years ago and eventually gave it away to a new owner looking to get into film photography. Biggest issue for me was how dark the viewfinder was compared to other models. Otherwise it was super light and fast. Best combo was the E Series 50mm f/1.8 pancake lens with that thing. Great rendering, okay-ish speed, and super fuck'n light. Had some Nikkormats (still do), but eventually found my favorite Nikon in the F2. It's heavy, but it's honestly exactly what I want in a camera.
For most of its existence, the business of Cosina was making decent bodies and lenses for other companies to label with their own brands and sell as their own. The Nikon FM10 was one of such, sold by at least three companies under different labels. This let Nikon compete for new customers in a relatively low price market while still roping them into the Nikon lens F-mount and family. Nikon started this policy with the Nikkorex F around 1961. It was made by Mamiya. After Nikon discontinued the model, Mamiya kept making and selling it with slight revisions and a different lens mount, both as a Mamiya brand and repackaged for other sellers under their brands. (Argus SLR, anyone?) I bought one in 1962 and used it until 1976 without fail or fault. (Or CLA, I'm ashamed to admit.)
In defense of the fm10 , we have to think , if Nikon decide to put the brand on a product they has to be sure meet some quality standards associated with the brand itself.. is a awesome camera I get mine with a 28 2.8 Ais for a low price !! And results always are beautiful..

Congratulations! This reminded me of where where I used to live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Got a Nikomat FT2 with a nikkor 50 f2 lens. It’s a heavy beast, so the opposite of the FM10 but it works for me.
I got an FT2 in Japan in 1976 to replace my Nikkorex F from 1962. (Thanks Mamiya) It big, heavy and tough, but Nikon's shift to AI meter coupling made me upgrade to the first version of the FM a couple of years later. Each newer Nikon after the FT2 was lighter, had more features and functions, and probably was less durable, except for my F3 of course. All have been completely satisfying.

My FM10 is a camera for a photography class. This camera is a bit filmsy, a bit plastic, but the photos came out are phenomenal! Particularly the kit lens, pretty good optics although the external cheap looks.
I love this! I got the original Cosina CT-1 as my first "real" camera back when I was 12 or 13! A lot of exciting adventures! It is so true that you don't need expensive stuff for great shots! Even though a Zeiss 50 is not exactly the most bargain lens ever! The shots of Dani look amazing!
Had to google the Cosina CT-1. It is a looker for sure! Regarding the FM10, I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed shooting it. Guess that's why ya never dismiss a camera till ya shoot it. And yeah, that Zeiss glass isn't cheap, but it is a used copy and really affordable. Thanks for watching!
Oh, these "student cameras", the like of the Olympus OM2000, Vivitar V2000 or this FM10 ! I think they are interesting ! Back in the nineties, those were the cameras most students could afford. A gazillion of photographers learned on these and that's what makes them cool !
5:17 very nice and missing focus/accidental shutters is all part of SLR learning :) Just slow down more, especially when close up. I'm not surprised it still works, my fm2n feels like no other object ive ever held
I saw this video while looking for repair videos and felt compelled to say do. not. buy. this. We have about 8 of them in our photo department and I feel like all I'm ever doing is repairing them. Normally it's the shutter button/film advance assembly getting loose, but now the take up spool doesn't stay put after advancing with film on it, if it even advances far enough.
Hey Robert, thanks for watching. To answer your question, no. A bridal shoot is not like a shot gun wedding, it's just a photoshoot of the bride in the dress typically done before the wedding but we did it a week after.
Have a little respect for her old camera, use a strap! It even had the Peak pucks… She’s really pretty. Did you have to compensate for her white dress so as not to underexpose?
I babied her camera...kinda! 😂 I did not adjust exposure for her white dress. I think me setting the ISO one stop over took care of any possible underexposure for her bright white dress. Thanks for watching!

I get it and feel similar most of the time. Unfortunately keyword combos are highly scrutinized by RU-vids algorithm and creators are forced to be somewhat dramatic in their titles or the algorithm demotes the vids. Thanks for watching!
