If you want to be creative and versatile, the P1000 isnt really a good choice... - no (or at best a poor) bokeh with this type of lens and aperture possible - just fine for daylight and outside, probably an AWESOME travel camera if you want to have ultimate zoom for every situation, but the P1000 is pretty much fked up in low light conditions - lens quality, its selling point, the 100 or 125x zoom lens, as nice the zoom is, its quality is WEAK. Saw an in depth comparison, and for normal photos and wider angles its just fine, but pretty fast when zooming in, the image quality drops heavily (and only getting worse). Not that i dont like this camera, in fact for some of my usecases i would LOVE IT (like birds, wildlife at all) and it would be also better than my full frame mirrorless camera with a 300mm tele lens (also more expensive than the P1000,...), but the overall performance of this camera suits only very specialized usecases at this price point like if you want superb tele capabilities but are ok with poor IQ for a "good" price. Sadly for regular photography there is no way around any modular system if you want to play around with aperture and bokeh especially. Trust me if i tell you you can have with a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 prime lens more fun than with a 2000$ "holy trinity" lens setup, and like this a DSLR/Mirrorless is A LOT SMALLER than any of this hyperzoom bridge cameras like the P1000

I agree. The Nikon P1000 camera has a narrow, specific application.

​@@MrSuperMole Have u compared it to images from a telescope .. Would u be able to do that experiment ..? Becuase the nokon migjt be using some algortithm for digital zoom as well... Maybe thats why it coildnt read past the 3.8 km mark..the digital zoom applies the algortithm to only the light sognals it receives on the sensor ..

It’s the air. Air isn‘t 100% transparent due to dust and humidity. The further away an object is the more air is between you and the object, thus making it appear in this blueish and less saturated colour

What Yannick said. The problem, including for telescopes, is that you don't just magnify the object in the distance. You also magnify the movement in the air as well. That is why there is a shimmer in the magnified image. In a very hot climate this gets so bad it can be impossible to get a clear shot on a hot day. Combine that with the density of the air plus dust and other particles in the air, and you get degradation in the magnified image. There is no practical way around this for any camera mere mortals can afford. Large scientific observatories spend millions on using laser beams to measure air movement, and then computers can control servo motors to continually adjust the telescope mirror which eliminates the shimmer, but the loss of color is combatted by filters and shooting in selective wavelengths then recombining the image later to get true color by calculating how much color was removed by the air. Hand held cameras simply cannot do any of this, and the result is what you see here.

And the bluish color of distant trees is caused by the increased amount of UV rays, because the video was shot in a mountainous area, around 1000m above sea level.

@@themintaddict2090 Despite what you may have read online, most decent tripods are good enough to support full zoom mode. Mine cost £149, but even cheaper ones should be good enough, if there isn't too much wind or sun directly in your eyes. Mine is an Arena Pro S, but I understand the Weifeng Wf-717 amongst others fit the bill.

I used the Genesis ABT Kit tripod

Camera comes with a remote too. So you don't need to touch it once it's setup in correct position.
