We use the Nikon 60mm 2.8 often. Very sharp. For macro you will need to use a tripod as the focusing can get out of focus easily. We use the digital zoom focusing feature to nail the focusing area. You can also get a similar macro image with a 50mm lens combined with a +1 close-up filter. Comparing images from both setups yields almost identical images.
My kind of photographer, using a less than ideal lens for a why the heck not kind of reason. Wish all the Nikon G/E lenses had the solid build quality of this 60mm macro lens.
I have the exact same combination but I put an adapter for slides on the lens. Then I connect the camera to my computer screen (24") via HDMI and a remote controller. Then I digitize slides! Works perfect. I also use it for portrait sometimes.
Thanks for your comment. Yes I use the 60mm for my slide copying also. I love your approach of using the HDMI port so you have a large screen to help with the copying. Great idea. Thanks
After acquiring my Micro-Nikkor AF-S 60mm f/2.8G, I generally stopped using my 50mm lenses. 60mm really does work well, for me, as a general normal focal length. My 28mm f/1.4E complements 60mm quite well, but, with the 60mm on the camera, it is not unusual for the 28mm to languish inside its pouch or bag, all day.
I’ve got the D version of that lens on a D700 and has turned out to be a favourite. If I want to go a bit lighter the 50 1.8D takes its place. Must get out and shoot more often.
