just got my nikon z6ii and had SO many questions. ive been looking for a good youtube video to really help me learn the basics of how to actually physically work with my settings, and your video was the only one that did so. Phenomenal video.
Just upgraded from a d7500. This is the BEST video I've seen so far, THANK YOU! The Z6ii isn't that different, but it's different enough I was panicking a little! haha!
How are you liking the Z6ii now that some time has gone by? I am considering making the switch from D7500 to this camera or possibly even wait for the Z6iii.
Chris, Thank you! I am a complete beginner in photography have seen many 100 youtube videos regarding aperture mode and setting up my new Nikon z6 II, this is the best explanation ever well explained best from Jonny (frome Norway)
This is the best tutorial I have found that helps me understand my Nikon Z6ii. I love how your explanations are simple and precise. Then, most of all, I like how you visually show every, single step.
I bought a Z6ii three days ago. Before that, I had a bridge camera. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but your video is so practical and down-to-earth that I feel I've got a "way in" and can really make a start. Thank you so much. You're a fantastic teacher.
Same here! Going from the Sony RX10M1 to the Nikon Z6 II. It was a tough decision to make but I wanted a full frame sensor. I have been looking into different brands over the past year. I even rented the Olympus OM1. Although it was a nice camera I didn’t feel comfortable with the menu. All camera brands have their shortcomings but I felt the Nikon Z6 II would be the best fit for me. I’m watching RU-vid videos to get some insight before I take it out of the box.
Chris, Thank you! I just upgraded from a D5500; a fairly significant jump. After reading several “camera guides”, I was starting to feel that I was in over my head. In 20 minutes, you clearly and concisely explained most of the features that I need to use now. Excellent!
Thank you so much! I just upgraded from a Nikon D90 to the Z6ii. Heading on a Safari in about a month where I will be shooting wildlife (with very little wildlife experience). I am trying to learn really fast. Thank you. This was so clear and well done!
Thank you so much for your clear tutorial ! I added the z6ii to my D5600, and the jump to "all electronical" is huge, but with your video, so simple to understand how to use it. And a bonus was getting more knowledge on A and S mode !!!! TX !!!
I have been using DX format cameras for a long time now, and use many of the techniques you've mentioned. They've worked well so far, but your explanation of Aperture Priority vs Shutter has gotten me thinking that I should try new methods now I've made the transition to a Z6 II. It has also pointed to a couple of features I didn't know were there. Thanks for this!
Thank you so much. I have picked up so many manuals and booklets to better understand my Z6ii and in your short video I now feel very confident. I've done photography for many years and grew up with only manual mode. There is so much to know but you make it easy and fun. I look forward to your other videos.
I just found this video and I am so thankful!! I recently purchased the Z611 and it has definitely been a learning curve. Thank you so much for this video, it has been so helpful!!!! I learned more in your video than I have in all of the other ones that I have watched combined!!
Agree with so many other commenters. This was the most helpful video I’ve ever seen! I am an enthusiast who has taken tens of thousands of photos over her lifetime but is just now starting to invest time in really learning the ins and out of true photography. I have often been intimated by all the moving parts of the settings and how one adjustment really affects the other settings. I didn’t understand the whole picture or the overall verbiage and photography vocabulary so it was hard to make the leap into full frame, even though I really appreciated the difference between image quality of crop sensor vs full frame. This video was amazing! The teaching and explanation and speed and sample photos were truly remarkable. I kept up well and took great notes that I can refer back to. I feel so much more prepared to take the leap and really start learning how to take my photography to the next level!! Thank you! Just bought the Nikon Z6iii and a set of highly recommended lenses and can’t wait to start my journey!
I have used a Nikon D40x for years. I gotta say, I was absolutely perplexed by the manual. I was able to do some things, but not everything I wanted. Watching you use the main command dial and the sub command dial was what I needed. Now, I am navigating my new camera much more easily. Thank you.
Great video Chris. I just found your channel and I learned more from you about my new Z6 II in 20 minutes, than I did by watching 4+ hours of several other YT channels combined!
Dude that monochrome mode idea is really awesome. I mostly print in B&W. Landscapes and portraits. I always thought to just shoot in color and convert later, because that is a more authentic way of seeing the image, like a film camera. But your idea of doing the reverse is actually kind of a revelation for me. Maybe it is more authentic to the ending image. I’ll give it a try. (in RAW+Jpg of course)
I'm late to the party having just found this video tutorial (now subscribed). I've recently sold my D7200 and am waiting for my Z6ii to arrive. So excited and your video has helped me understand the transition from DSLR to mirrorless. Thank you
Nice work covering a lot of the basics and illustrating much of the often insufficiently clear user manual content -with zero fluff and vlogger logorrhea.
Thank you so much for this video, you are a great teacher! You make it simple to follow the instructions, I appreciate you 😊 today is February 23rd 2023. I am a new photographer and I took some classes with a great photographer but you can only do so much in two weeks, I keep studying and reviewing, and this was awesome 👏
Great video, It's been awhile since I got out my camera. Other piroties but when Christmas time happened I realized how much I had forgot. Thanks for the refresh.
Thank you so much for your clear and easy to understand explanation on the Z6 II. I’ve had my camera for a year now and you just helped me switch from the P mode to A mode as my base position. I’ll definitely be looking at your other videos.
Loved it! Thank you very much Chris. I just got my 6II, I learned more from you in a couple of minutes then in all the Nikon tutorials combined. Thanks again. Please keep making the videos.
Thanks for a great tutorial! I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time. The progression from auto to aperture to shutter priority mode as a way to gradually learn manual mode makes a lot of sense to me. And, your clear and detailed explanations have given me confidence to experiment with the features my new camera. I’m looking forward to watching more of your tutorials!
Outstanding tutorial and explanation. Just got the camera to replace Nikon D500 that needs to go in for repair. Bought the Z6ii spur of the moment and watched this video.I am mostly doing bird photos while in Florida so the explanation of how to change settings in advance and while in the field was very helpful.
Thank you so much. Have had my camera for months and have learnt so much through watching this video only once. Now to put my newfound knowledge into practice then I can move on to more tutorials :)
Great video. Just got my z6ii and taken a few pictures. Just love it and it feel so amazing and a nice upgrade from my D90. Most i. This video I figured out at the hockey rink today but look forward to check out what you habe done more...
I’m a seasoned amateur former pro photographer since the early digital and even some film. This is a great beginner video for learning such a complicated system (at least for beginners). For the beginner who bought a Z6ii: you bought the ultimate beginner camera 😂
I’ve just bought my Z6 II to go with my D7100. I wasn’t sure of some of the features, but your clear explanations were very good. Thinking I’ll be “playing” with some of the things you’ve shown at the weekend. Now off in search of further videos you’ve done on the Z6 II.
My fabulous husband bought me this camera, and I have ZERO photography experience. This video is very helpful and I'm sure I'll be watching it 3-4 more times! For someone in my position, completely new to this (save for my iphone!!), what other of your videos are good places for me to get comfortable with this wonderful camera?
Hello Chris, I have just found your channel and watched the night time photography video which was excellent for a total beginner. Looking to see your other videos, I found this one for the Nikon Z6 II which was so clear and informative. Thank you so much for your time and effort, much appreciated.
You forgot to mention 1 crucial feature when it comes to setting the correct exposure. The light evaluation meter on the camera. As you adjust your settings check the light meter to see if your image will be over or under exposed. Its a huge help when adjusting your settings and its a freebie
Great video, thanks @chris Attrell, best tutorial I have seen (agree with the comment below) - I learnt a lot. The one photo I loved above others is of the couple on cyles at 18.02 where the background is blurred. Shutter priority. Would love to get the settings, I guess I have to watch your next video on shutter priority.
I just picked up the Z6ii today on a nice hot sale w/ the 24-70mm. $2300. It's going to take a lot of getting use to. I'm currently shooting on a D850/D3s. This is my first nikon mirrorless. I'm a little sad because a lot of quick option buttons are just not there. I wish i could use one of the function buttons to set the shot mode (single/low/high) but i dont think its possible. The smaller size is going to take some getting use to as well. I love it so far though. It's definitely easier to wield around. I may end up purchasing the grip though. My hands are rather large.
