We get some time behind the wheel of the Nimbus One Prototype.
The common wisdom today is that more is better: bigger cars, larger cargo space, and more range. What if instead, we thought smaller? That's what Nimbus hopes to do with the new Nimbus One. A tiny EV with a top speed of 50 mph, a range of 93 miles, and a unique charging solution, Nimbus is aiming squarely at urban commuters. Does the Nimbus One succeed? Watch above and find out.

@@popeyegordon Nobody wants this crap, which is why all these "city car" end up bankrupt. I believe they also just went bankrupt. This thing is not worth 10 grand, which is what they want for it. You are unlikely to ever get anywhere near 93 miles with it (9kwh). It will require full coverage insurance. It has 4 large batteries you are expected to carry in with you at least every other day (which in the city might be a 2 block trip between your house and wherever you could find a spot) . AND, what they are not telling you is if you want to charge all 4 batteries, you will need at least 2 circuits to charge all 4. Most house circuits are good for 80% of 15amps. This thing won't even hold a week of groceries for 2 people. A lot of people, myself included, like food shopping only once a month. I hate and dread shopping for groceries and wouldn't want to start it doing once a week because my vehicle won't carry enough. It's uncomfortable to ride in and constantly leans every time you want to turn. It might be fun the first few times you drive it, but the novelty will wear quickly.

@NicMediaDesign
@NicMediaDesign 10 месяцев назад
@@tarstarkuszWhy can't it be ones only car?
@tarstarkusz
@tarstarkusz 10 месяцев назад
@@NicMediaDesign Because it is too small to be one's only car and the range is too limited even if you could survive with just this one car. With a 9kwh battery, range is going to be severely limited, not that you would want to sit in this car for very long. Limitations people could live with if it were MUCH cheaper. This is the fundamental problem with the idea of an extremely limited "city car" like this one. Not only is it over 10k, but it will require full coverage insurance unless you buy it in cash. But even if you buy it in cash, you still need liability insurance and it would be dumb to not have full coverage for at least a few years. The idea of an extremely limited city car could work in a place like India. It cannot work in the West. They could be made and built much cheaper in India and would be cheaper to operate in India.

@DefundTheFringes
@DefundTheFringes Год назад
"Maybe it would switch to a low friction mode and not lean as much??" -- You'd want higher friction! The leaning is actually what would prevent it from sliding on wet or icy roads, maintaining a lower center of gravity with less sideways pressure. Those tires look too motorcycle-ish for serious traction, so I assume they can be changed within the fender size spec.
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon Год назад
This has rounded tires. If traction is what you want, buy the Arcimoto with three flat tread car tires totalling 14.5 inches of tread on the road at all times. I really appreciate the great traction, harness, crash cage and low COG, far safer than any motorcycle ever made. The Nimbus is far less likely to spin out because of the 3 wheels. I'm not sure it is even possible to fall over in a turn because of the leaning. I signed up to rent a Nimbus but I have owned my Arcimoto for 20 months now, a lot going for it except AC. Mine tops out at 84 mph and has considerable cargo space.

No. You can see an adult being seated in the rear in another video, his feet go alongside the front seat base. The seat slides forward to enter.

How many of their potential customers want to lug one to four 25 pound batteries back and forth to their house or apartment each day to charge them? What if you don’t live on the first floor of your dwelling and there is no elevator. Is this EV just for fit people that have no problem carrying 25 pound batteries including up and down stairs each day to charge them?
@carlr8778
@carlr8778 Год назад
Nothing to stop them having a charger socket on the vehicle. For that matter, being able to swap the batteries is a feature small EVs should have. Have two sets and then you can always have a set fully charged in an emergency.

There’s a level 2 charging socket on the front of the nimbus, so you can charge it just like any other electric car if you want.

Sam is correct! You can use a level 2 charger or there's a built in plug and cord on the vehicle, like a vacuum cleaner.

This looks to be a drone with wheels, all wheel drive by wire. In the patent it has electric motors steering actuators tilt actuators seemingly all computer controlled with sophistocated IMU sensors. Who is going to service all this stuff plan. Piaggio, Peugot, Yamaha big names international companies are selling IC class versions which are far from tree hugger designs. Simpler is better you are going into the teeth of legacy machines and you can be mauled. I hope you have a well know Chinese company helping your manufacture and initial product offering. Good luck! Simpler higher performance is what you need to compete with the established brands. Look at their patents what do you think you are smarter and more powerful. Active suspension is well known to GM and the rest of the West. America is a big country so space is not that big an issue. Americans like muscle in the main. Life is stifling enough. Sell in China first but hey have tilters that sell for $2100 US. They can stick their foot out too when stopping. Did you prototype in the US and now build in China. You will make a lot of friends. Say what you do do what you say!

"we've seen this all before," "it's nothing new".... you well express your indifference to the topic at hand and your fatigue from talking about it... "not an absolutely horrible driving experience"... you didn't even show the back seat... maybe time to find something to talk about that you are genuinely interested in...?

This is appealing to exactly nobody. It might (or might not) be the first to lean or be a 3wheeler, but it is nowhere near the first useless "city EV" introduced. They are too much money for what they are. You couldn't even take this to the grocery store! You could not fit a monthly grocery shopping (for 1 or 2 people, let alone a family) into this thing if you tried. You get to pay 10 grand for it and have to have full coverage insurance on it. In the end, you can only drive it 50-60 miles (they are lying about the range, just like every other small EV has done) They claim you can rent it for 200/month, but that doesn't include the full coverage insurance you will have to pay. Plus you are going to a beta tester. To top it all off, I gotta carry in 4 large battery packs to charge in the house? Plus, since it is such a small battery, it will need to be charged quite frequently, like every day or every other day. Sell it for under 4 grand while keeping all the other specs and you may have a winner. But you can't sell it that low.

This is a JOKE! Unless it has a range of 350 miles and a top speed over 100 miles-per-hour it will NEVER replace the motorcycle! Probably can't even use the Tesla Supercharger network.
