The average listener doesn’t understand the struggle as much as is so with those who have to step up to create! But you nailed itz so much respect and Love to Nina ❣️🖤
I totally agree but the thing is ...now a day people do not really liston to the music but what is around it....😅😅😅😅 Taylor not even have 10% of this artist...but she really make it.😮😮😮😮😮
Listen to everything all her old stuff she is one hell of a talent she was special. People were smarter then more insightful sister Rosetta tharpe is amazing too they really are the foundation of music as we know today
There is something about her!! She is so odd in a powerfully good way. I can't get enough of the way she speaks/ acts/ sings. It's entertaining beyond a way I can put into words. When she stands up after the performance and looks into the crowd. It's almost as if she see's every one in it. Old/ young. Good/ Evil - She hopes they got the message - doesn't really care if they were entertained. Because you can't care about every body with their unique lives and thoughts , trials and tribulations. You care for your own and spread a good message of strength and love - THAT is how you are going to make the world a better place - as a individual living in it.
And nowadays all USA has to praise is Beyonce and Etcétera , etcétera, etcétera… with more visuals than soul. Musicians nowadays don’t show their soul, they’r just after the money and it shows 😢
She is intense! Her presence made me feel more normal than I've ever felt in my whole life. That was a priceless dose of perspective and I thank you for the lingering sense of sanity.
@@ld2588 her medical issues were so sever that she had to be on medication to be able to function. Check out the documentary that's authorized. It's intense.
Good Observation. Indeed, it is an old friend to her. She first climbed up on the piano bench at 3 yrs old. And played songs by ear. Before long, she began playing the piano at her mother's church. Check out her Autobiograhy: "I Got A Spell On You" (1991)
I feel so much love and respect for this great woman and extraordinary, magnificent artist. I can feel in my heart the great oppression that she and African Americans have suffered so much. Nina is an angel.
Billie Holliday recorded this song in 1939! She wrote after seeing a man swinging in The trees, during a bus tour when they weren’t even allowed to use bathrooms, hotels or stay in the places they performed in. Trump and his cronies want to make America great again? Fuck em. We want a better world.
@@ramonaestrada601 I think you might be confused with Strange Fruit ? This was written in the 60's by Langston Hughes and Nina Simone and references the Vietnam War.
j. inksetter please research again Billie Holliday first sang this song in the 30/40s. So how could it been written in the 60s. Perhaps another similar song but since I’m a 60s lady born in 1945, I’d think I’d recall it since I was very politically involved then,
@@ramonaestrada601 I would love to hear this song performed by Billie Holiday if you can share a link - I'm sure it would be fantastic. I did research and could not find any trace of this on the internet, I would be happy if I could be contradicted with research from you or anyone else.
Nina Simone was just genius. For those who can't get her, just listen to the words of the song, and in time the emotion will hit you (at least, I hope so) and you will see a whole new world. This is not your kid sister's music. Thanks for posting this one-it's so Nina!
I agree her lyrics just fill you with joy knowing ATLEAST 1 person knew what you felt.... this applies to all races, classes, ethnicities in the past, present and God help us who have it better now, in the future
I'm old, but I only found Nina a week ago. To say it has been an absolute revelation to hear her is a massive understatement. She is a tour de force. One of the many things which have truly stood out to me, aside from her brilliant musicianship, is her fearless devotion to the 'feel' of the song. Amazing. 💜
NINA SIMONE LYRICS "The Backlash Blues" Mr. Backlash, Mr. Backlash Just who do think I am You raise my taxes, freeze my wages And send my son to Vietnam You give me second class houses And second class schools Do you think that alla colored folks Are just second class fools Mr. Backlash, I'm gonna leave you With the backlash blues When I try to find a job To earn a little cash All you got to offer Is your mean old white backlash But the world is big Big and bright and round And it's full of folks like me Who are black, yellow, beige and brown Mr. Backlash, I'm gonna leave you With the backlash blues Mr. Backlash, Mr. Backlash Just what do you think I got to lose I'm gonna leave you With the backlash blues You're the one will have the blues Not me, just wait and see
Anyone noticed her wink.? Who do you think was the reciver? 3:25 I can't get enough of her confidence. Of her face and lips the way she talks and transitions. She is a magnet.
The word I, in my humble opinion, think most describes Nina is authentic. Which, again, in my humble opinion, is the highest compliment I can give. Nina Simone kept it real and her power lives on in her recorded works. I salute you Sista.
She was the very essence of authenticity. I said the same thing on another clip. She worked very hard at always being present and living her truth. Even when it tormented her or she was overcome by her mental illness.
I can't watch her without feeling the highest form of love and a such deep sadness. the bit when she goes from talking about stuff she was really thinking about to snapping herself back into performer mode, back into songstress and genius musician. I don't think anyone has ever been more honest in the way they carry themselves on stage and I think it was due to pain and exhaustion she felt. I wish she could have lived in a world free of racism and bullshit inequality. one of the greatest beloveds in my life to date.
I wonder if she'd like the return to segregation we are seeing. It's crazy how it's like a wave crashing back in on itself. You can only walk half way into a forest I guess.
“The media is alive. It’s REAL.”- Nina Simone. Feeling heartbroken at a verdict today in the news. African American and all Beings of Color, know that your gay and Lezbian brothers and Sisters stand with you against injustice. Love, N “The Revolution will not be Facecracked” move social media to OPEN SOURCE!
Cowards the lot of you. Timing and relevance gives you all the necessity to be a participant. Just make your words tasty and adding (not detracting) to the flavour
What a brilliant mind and strong persona. The world needed, and needs, miss Nina Simone. Never have I seen someone find a way to smile, laugh, through the hardest of situations while still carrying the struggle thru her expressions. True power.
Maureen Wagg it's too damn bad nobody was ready to listen. MLK Jr., JFK, Che Guevara, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Bobby Kennedy, Billie Holiday, people were speaking truth for decades, centuries actually, but after a few were murdered or imprisoned, the movement was always slowed way down. "They" could never stop it completely though and it seems more folks are ready to listen again. Let's hope Maureen, take care!
@@aaliyahdouglass2166 Check out Her on BBC here in the tube... think it was 1999...so it did...gonna check it out myself next...cuz not sure how she felt about it tho
Alcoholic or not, medic or not, great woman, great pianist, great singer, great figure of the XX century. A legendary being full of passion. I love her all. A white man from France
NINA SIMONE.
@@MeimeiLovesmusic stop really you understand b/c you've heard it before said to everyone. What an American beauty, japanese beauty, Scandinavian beauty? People like you always appear saying these things on the internet - did you come here just to say this on a Nina Simone video 😂
aiemii i I don’t categorize people ... I never say “she’s a white beauty, or black beauty or put description into a category. I just say she’s beautiful.
this song really is timeless it meant so much back then but also it means so much now it can be redefined in so many different ways. i was just thinking how 'the blues' are slang for fentanyl now a days and the backlash could be the response to that. either way the track is awesome all alone. nina was truly a gift from the lofty heavens.
'If I had to be called something, it should have been a folk singer because there was more folk and blues than jazz in my playing'; Nina Simone wrote in her autobiography. Her musical style fused a range of influences including blues, gospel, pop and classical song. 6:39 [Vialma Classical]
She must have started that attitude thing but she had everything plus to bay it up.probably genius.i think so.she was extraordinary and back here to listen to this great great artist
Perfect role model for women, my little girl will be strong, passionate, and as cunning as Nina! Cheers to all the strong women out there. Chin to the sky, ear to the ground.
TRIED TO FIND AN EMOJI OF A BLACK WOMAN TAKING A BOW OR STANDING TO SALUTE.... THANK YOU MS.NINA SIMONE FOR YOUR LOVE THAT'S NEEDED SO VERY MUCH IN THIS WORLD.
She’s a Lady of Blues..!!!! What a voice... she’s making love with the piano.... and with his voice... NINA you’re unique!! Thanks for the gift of your spontaneous and fabulous way to sing!!!
She should be part of civil rights curriculum (in Florida). There is so much to glean from this woman. Civil Rights, Mental Health, substance Abuse, Domestic Violence, etc. the Netflix biopic should be part of the High School curriculum. We need to embed this woman in history. It would be a loss for civilization if Nina Simone were to be forgotten.
So will man agieren, ehrlich und leidenschaftlich. Musikerin aller Musiker*innen.
I love how real this music is. Saying it as is. The feel is great not typical blues shuffling or a classic funk take but that cry from the heart. The great Lady Nina
