As a young black woman every time I watch this video my self esteem goes up more and more. I feel so regal and grateful to be cut from the same cloth as her 😭😭😭

She is pure power. Many may not understand that she felt that music, her life, the struggle, the beauty, the passion of who she was and she released it and expressed it in her fingers on the keys, and then in her spirit and dance. It's a release screaming, "I'm here, Nina!" Oh, she was a beautiful soul, and is a powerful messenger. RIP Sister, thank you!

As an African that has been living in Cameroon throughout his life and listen to different African beats, I appreciate this type of beats coming from Ms Nina in the mid 70s, i wasn't even born by then. Good Job Mom. And her name is Cameroonian too.

Just WOW! I did not grow up listening to Nina Simone. The only song I knew was “To be young, gifted, and black.” When I became exposed to her music much later in life, I could not not get enough. The more live performance videos I see of Miss Simone, just confirms her as my favorite artist of all time!

I think it's telling that this track, a song about a man who can not escape God's judgement, first appeared on Pastel Blues right after Blood on the Leaves, a song about the lynchings of African Americans. Nina was not afraid to tell people they were going to hell.

I haven't heard a bad song from Nina Simone, so I'm completely happy to listen to this song whether it is Sinnerman or African Mailman. I love her work in 2020 and am so glad it survived for me to discover it. I was a little white boy in the inner city when the Civil Rights Movement was in full effect in the middle 60's, so my life was full of fear of black people by virtue of my family's reaction to them. But, I was always mesmerized by the music that came from black culture, namely Motown at that time. Plus, television was our internet at that time, and I watched Soul Train many times and did so enjoy what I saw and heard there. In fact, I'm old enough to remember when interracial dating was a THING, and people used to look at the couples like they were aliens or monsters. I've seen so much racism in my life, and participated in way too much of it, by virtue of my upbringing. Now, I'm old enough and smart enough to seek out what I missed and I definitely MISSED Nina Simone. She was an absolute leader and a musician nonpareil.
