I get shivers no matter how many times I watch this and hear her sing her Truth without hesitation, without mincing words, without prettying it up. She had so much authenticity, it's hard to find that, especially in performers. This song unfortunately still resonates today. So glad you chose to do it for a reaction, and your responses as the song was going on were also authentic and entertaining at the same time. Listening to it tonight I thought about how those injustices that are in public, that "everybody knows about," are so darned infuriating! Sure there is bad stuff going on behind closed doors; but when it's shamelessly out in the open it really is so incredibly damaging to our country and our society, and can make one feel both hopeless and angry.

I saw her perform this in a jazz concert in Memphis sometime in the late sixties. Electrifying!

She was brilliant to watch on RU-vid. So, I just couldn’t imagine seeing her live. That’s a perfect word to describe how I would have felt seeing her live.

Man, she was speaking truth! Unfortunately, so much has changed but so much has not. As true today as it was then.

This was so brave of her to speak out through her music during those times..reminds me so much of Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday…I love that she didnt give a damn and used her platform and gift to bring attention to what was going on in the South.

❤Nina Simone is an essential artist. I personally don’t care for popular music lyrics, most, not ALL, in that so much of it is filler…it’s merely there. Hence, my love of Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan (who sang when he had something to say) Joplin who sang the songs that had historical significance before they disappeared, Jeff Beck, and jazz artists-give me Miles Davis any day. Yet *Nina Simone wrote words that meant SO much* -in that hearing ‘Feeling Good’ becomes a deeper experience, in my view, as one listens to the words she chose (generally cut out when utilized by a series or a film.) there IS no categorizing Nina Simone.❤I am grateful.

Nina Simone is the muse of the 60s. She inspires me just to be a strong woman even though I'm not black. But beyond that, she's a role model for young black girls who are loud and proud. God I love her.

{~this is is a recommendation or request} i just listened to the ‘original unedited live’ (no footage yet SO different yet so SO special Nina Simone’s ‘Why? The King of Love is Dead’…written by the bass player, and yet what she said, off the cuff-her ^being so eloquent yet so honest-and visceral -I know that she is a part of my ability to ingest the ugliness of the news…raw. ‘Baltimore’ is another one whereby I just feel gratitude for her sharing/giving herself to us. We all need to do it…as a child, my Father it. He said, ‘People who’ve chosen to do the (sharing) jobs-they’re the happiest of all people.’ Truth.

Can you imagine how dangerous this would have been to have sung this song in 1964 anywhere near Mississippi? Thank God she was in safely in France at the time.

who and what are you referring to, if not ‘The police’-who continuously murder black peoples specifically, but people just generally (Australian woman shot by police)-by breaking into the ‘wrong’ houses and shooting Brianna, arresting her boyfriend (nobody else thought that they were cops, by cops demanding that a deaf man wearing a senior citizen’s alarm pendant answer questions that he couldn’t hear in his own bed in his own home, being dragged out of a car (Tyre Nichols)-and being beaten. To Death. *The situation is fairly simple: black people haven’t been lying to America for the past 100 years.*
