French singer called Charles Aznavour, Nina was a huge fan and covered some of his songs. And tomorrow is my turn is originally one of Aznavour's song . And as is saying Jay, when Aznavour heard Nina's cover he just said : "Pure genius".
Though some may reach for the stars Others will end behind bars What the future has in store no one ever knows before Yet we would all like the right to find the key to success That elusive ray of light that will lead to happiness Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts no more fears Tomorrow is my turn When my luck is returning All these years I've been learning to save fingers from burning Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts no more fears Tomorrow is my turn to receive without giving Make life worth living Now it's my life I'm living My only concern for tomorrow is my turn Now the summer is gone, there's another to come You can't stop years from drifting by even if you want to try Though time may help you forget all that has happened before But honey it's too late to regret what is gone will be no more Tomorrow is my turn When my luck is returning All these years I've been learning to save fingers from burning Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts no more fears Tomorrow is my turn to receive without giving Make life worth living Now it's my life I'm living My only concern for tomorrow is my turn
Nina Simone is something else. Listening to her makes me want to cry or pull my hair out or set something on fire. To run and shout at the top of my lungs that nothing is worth shouting about! I feel unhinged listening to this woman.
Genius!!! She's absolutely amazing... Very few people in musical history, can actually do what she's doing... She's just casually playing around with complex musical timing and signature, and also while doing so, as if it's just an amusing toy for her.... Brilliant!!!
Other artists try to fit the music, Nina makes the music fit around her and the story she tells. She's flexible and the bands that played with her had to follow suit
The blurred emotions ache with melancholy, the days gone by, the innocent edged beauty that stands till it hurts, how much can a pure heart burn? Dark ashes, sorrowful youth, turn the page and drift, what is gone... will be no more.
11:19 PM, listening to this on thanksgiving day. all the food has been stored away, family members have left, I've just taken off my dress and now I am sitting cross-legged in my stockings on my bed. this song makes me want to take note of my life, capture it in detail. it's slipping me by, I know it, I feel it. it's quite overwhelming, but also valuable and precious. I'm glad to be alive right now, I'm glad I'm alive to write all I've just written and experience this song in the depths of me as I am doing, the depths of my heart. I don't know you, but you are wonderful. thank-you for existing. stay gold.
***** I wasn't trying to be narcissistic, I was just trying to express my gratitude for Nina Simone's music and the effect it has on me personally whenever I listen to it. There's nothing wrong in doing that. And it's not your call to decide which music is purposeful for my life. You can do that with your own.
***** I really don't have to explain myself to you, it's rather pointless actually. You're taking my words, and giving them completely different meaning, which I think says more about you than anything. Point be, I respect and admire Nina Simone, as a musician, woman, and civil rights activist. And if you do too, great. Let's just leave it at that.
I loved this tune in '65 on the "I put a spell on you" album, perhaps my fav Nina album. But this "unplugged" version, which I just discovered today, blows me away. Miss Simone just goes so deeply into the moment that it tears the emotions. I was fortunate to see her several times in that era, and this performance so well captures her profound talents.
THIS SONG REALLY INSPIRES ME ALLOT TO BE STRONG AND WAIT FOR TOMORROW I LOVE YOU NINA AND I LOVE WHEN YOU SAY WHEN SUMMER IS GONE THERE IS ANOTHER TO COME, AND WHAT IS GONE IS GONE AND NO MORE VERY TALENTED WOMEN I KNOW YOU ARE OLD BUT NOTHING IS CHANGED HUMANS ARE STILL THE SAME JUST LIKE 1960s
You can sense that she’s looking at the band and listening to them while giving them direction. You can also hear the free spirit that she has. Almost improvisational.
I'm not going to cry because tomorrow is my turn I said TOMORROW IS MY TURN TO RECEIVE WITHOUT GIVING TO MAKE LIFE WORTH MY LIVING FOR ITS MY LIFE I'M LIVING ! TOMORROW IS MY TURN !
WOW, I thought my parents & grandparents were gassing me up when they the told me the real music was doing their time. I have discovered Nina Simone and she is abosolutely amazing!
Elle a l'éternité, pas besoin de award, d'ailleurs c'est qui ce award 😅? Qu'est ce qu'il a fait pour mériter quoi que ce soit 😅? Nina oui, elle a vécu et chanté
I feel the same way. I listen to her - totally. Makes me want to cry or pull my hair out or set something on fire. I too feel unhinged listening to this woman. Every time.
Absolutely legendary..At first I'm watching a performance, then I hear and feel the convictions as if they were my own. I caught myself gasp as the emotions emitted in tears, the words, the life sung by Nina were my own. She left me awestruck and yes, tomorrow is my turn indeed.
waouh ! this is actually the truth : "universe is as a classroom and we're at school any day the Lord give us to live, as any day He gives us all sorts of possibilities to make our marvelous world a possible world for all the humanity" Love Mary Johnson and thanks for your post. I'm a french aged woman who has been gifted when i was born by my Dad and Mum and all those i met along my way until today thanks God.
Nina makes any song a masterpiece, like Shakespeare's power. Aznavour had a good song, but when Nina sang it, everything is here - life and death, and prison and liberation from vice. Nina could turn any song into a revelation. Bright memory to her. It cannot be repeated.
There was so much torment in her true message. At the same time she was strong enough to press on and do it like she needed and wanted. Moreover she was laying down many HEAVY HEAVY true to life true to date information. She knew most of us would not get it so she repeated the info and followed up with" REMEMBER THAT".....ie when she said they are killing us one by one. Wow... some of today's hardcore rappers concur with this stone cold Fact. To answer the question asked.. Yes this song makes me weep!!!! Just as mist if her music does. This was her platform to share insight. How many if us are in the know? ???????????????
Though some may reach for the stars Others will end behind bars What the future has in store no one ever knows before Though time may help you forget all that has happened before it's too late to regret, what is gone will be no more. Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts, no more fears Tomorrow is my turn When my luck is returning All these years, I've been learning to save fingers from burning Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts, no more fears Tomorrow is my turn to receive without giving, to make life worth living though it's my life I'm living And my only concern for tomorrow is my turn. When summer is gone, there's another to come. You can't stop years drifting by, even if you want to try. Though time may help you forget all that has happened before, sweetheart it's too late to regreat, what is gone will be no more. Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts, no more fears Tomorrow is my turn When my luck is returning All these years, I've been learning to save fingers from burning Except tomorrow is my turn No more doubts, no more fears Tomorrow is my turn to receive without giving. To make life worth my living Now it's my life I'm living Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts no more fears Tomorrow is my turn to all my love to be returned. All these years, I've been learning to save fingers from burning Tomorrow is my turn No more doubts, no more fears Tomorrow is my turn to receive without giving. Make life worth living Now it's my life I'm living And my only concern for tomorrow is my turn.
I always come back here to listen to this version and it is as if I heard it for the first time. her songs bring all the feelings I have it to the surface of my skin and eyes.
This is the reason why Nina never died, she´s only around the corner, her talent will always be here to be listened, to be joyed, to be felt. Thanks to the Universe for gift us with such an amazing talent coming to alive in such a beautiful and soul touching woman form!
She is so majestic, her voice expresses calm smoldering wisdom with passion. Though the world has lost her, it is still not ready for her in most quarters. I rejoice that she receives so much play now though... I have loved her since first hearing "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" at age eighteen light years ago. Share her like wine with very good friends...
