►A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician, on the road at age 17-19, then went part-time ever since, holding 'day-careers' like chef (red seal papers), spiritual health care while raising a family. As a producer I've made hundreds of my own songs for media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, playing International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I like to explore grunge, pop rock and alternative, alt-folk / acoustic fingerstyle guitar, ambient electronic and classical as well. Recently i 'discovered' shoegaze and lo-fi. I have a home studio that is ramping up for lots more music so stay tuned.

Ningen Isu are legends. They've been going since 1987 and have 24 studio albums (excluding compilations), but only started getting much notice in the west a few years ago. Their lyrics are often based on literature and "Ningen Isu" ("The Human Chair") itself is the name of a 1924 short story. They're my favourite all-male Japanese band and they are by far the most nostalgic one for me. I feel like they have a similar spirit to bands like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, while also being something very distinctive from that.

In all likelihood, the "tag" is an お守り (omamori), or charm/amulet for luck or protection. They're pretty common in Japan. Really dig the band, I just wish it were easier to pick up their stuff outside Japan.

The tag on the guitar is an Omamori, a lucky charm. Many Japanese buy omamori at shrines on New Year's to pray for good luck and avoid disasters. Five favorite reasons were very good explanations. Thanks.

Omamori (a fabric envelope richly crafted with paper with Japanese ideograms) is a Shinto amulet or talisman - a primitive animistic spiritualist philosophy, strongly linked to Nature - the root philosophy of ancient Japan. For every aspect of everyday life there is a specific Omamori. I believe that Wajima's (vocalist and guitarist) clothes are influenced by this tradition. The Ningen Isu logo is based on the form of prehistoric Japanese spelling, from this perspective. His lyrics have strong social criticism and influence from literature and poetry. It's a very intelligent and theatrical band. A treasure for rock and heavy metal fans. They have been active for almost 50 years, with presentations, interviews, publications and, mainly, albums. Needless to say, I'm a big fan.

I am glad you reacted to Ningen Isu for a while! That song appears on their fifth album, ' Dancing One-Inch Preacher', released in 1995. It's the album title tune. The album is a masterpiece, but at this time they were released on an independent label after being released from their previous label contract. So it was hard to find it out for a long time, but it was re-released in 2021. And the song name is taken from a short story of the same one published by Ranpo Edogawa (江戸川乱歩) in 1926. The novel literally tells the story of a one-inch man in a circus hut, and it is bizarre, haha. The novel was heavily influenced by the short stories of the American old writer, Edgar Allan Poe. And this song is very 'Black Sabbath', right? 😄 I think your five analyses are excellent. It's true that they have a lot of female fans, and some of the lyrics in their songs are disgusting to women, but they still have a lot of female fans. That's what's great about it. I also think it's true that Suzuki and all the other members are some kind of funny. But that's what makes them cool. They are not snobby. As for the good luck tag, everyone else is right. I will request their early song, doomy and progressive one, 'Sunspots' live video (太陽黒点, Taiyo-kokuten) by NoreSore. Thank you from Japan!

Thanks for your lengthy comment. I enjoyed it and will note your request! I wonder now what some of the disgusting lyrics are??

For example, if it's recent songs, I'd say 'Love Nirvana' (愛のニルヴァーナ, Ai no Nirvana), or the early ones, 'Love to heaven' (天国に結ぶ恋, Tengoku ni musubu koi).. Some of the female fans go to the live wearing Kimono. 😀
