I feel its pretty likely we could get the reveal at the game awards. A wider array of people tend to watch them over just a Nintendo direct, and a December announcement is less likely to eat into holiday sales like an October or November one.

God I feel old. I graduated middle school in I think 2017-2018 and got my switch then. Then when I look back on when the Wii and DS came out I feel ancient.

I think it’s worth mentioning that it was said during the investors meeting that the June Direct will be the final Direct for the Switch, meaning what they show in the Direct is probably it for first-party releases. Idk about anyone else but that implies to me that they aren’t going to wait around until next year to announce the next system, especially if there’s no September Direct.

For the direct in June, I really hope that Fire Emblem 4 remake is announced there

I think Nintendo will finally reveal Metroid Prime 4 at the June direct, launch it in September/October, reveal Switch 2 in October/November, release it March with a Mario killer app (either Super Mario or Mario Kart 9) and about three months later release Metroid Prime 4 enhanced for Switch 2

Glad to see a June direct. I was hoping they would have one before the end of splatoon 3’s update cycle and discuss the future of the franchise. Hopefully they do 🤞

I'm amazed they actually announced it, with Wii U to Switch it made sense since they were on emergency mode so they had to reassure shareholders but this time they are doing incredibly well, pleasant surprise none the less.

All jokes aside, I'm happy someone at Nintendo actually confirmed there IS a switch 2 that will be revealed in under a year and there will be a full on direct in June that won't have it be revealed. That is actually a very nice thing to do and I hope Nintendo does more of this in the future.

I don't think it will be releasing after march 2025, in the following fiscal year, and I say that simply because if that were the case then they wouldn't have had to have said anything to investors at this point if they didn't want to.

This is real exciting stuff! Would you please start uploading your video's to Odysee too? I would watch the channel far more often there and there's actually a RU-vid sync feature that means that your RU-vid videos will sync with Odysee automatically with no extra effort involved in running the channel, and the initial setup for sync is super simple. It's also great because if you ever have a video forced down by RU-vid, the Odysee upload will remain unless you choose to delete it manually. I've been wanting to ask this for a long time GVG, and I would really appreciate that. I think you'd get a good audience over there too. Seems like a good time to do so too at the start of this new "Switch 2 era" that's just begun.

It was morning... in Japan. The next Switch will release no later than Legends ZA. That was always going to be the case. How much earlier is still up in the air, but I think I read a rumor that said they're still trying to get this holiday season. The odds still aren't great. They want to avoid scalping by having tons available, after all. I wouldn't doubt a March release.

They are definitely gonna reveal the next mainline Mario game alone with the Switch 2 announcement to showcase what it's capable of. My guess would be that it's between the PS4 and PS4 Pro in terms of power.

The reveal will not be before the June direct, so there's that. I don't think the successor is coming this year. I think they'd want to milk the current switch for this holiday season and the second half of 2024 releases. So I'm guessing the announcement will be sometime next year.

For me the timeline is clear, especially with this announcement: They’re announcing in October, like they did the switch, with a January blow out and March launch. OR, since unlike the Wii U, the switch is still a strong seller, they could hold off until past the holiday season to announce it, as to not harm the sales. So yeah it could all happen very tightly and very shortly in early 2025

I think they'll follow a similar schedule as Switch 1 but possibly slightly later just to ensure they've enough software ready for the first year.

I wonder 2 things from this announcement... 1. Will Switch games be playable on the next system (Hoping they will be). 2. I wonder if we will see some of these games release on the next console as a cross-gen release... Like BotW for WiiU and Switch. I feel like Nintendo may consider this due to how the 3DS exclusives sold after the launch of the Switch.

I wonder then if they're actually getting Metroid Prime 4 out the door for the end of the year or if that's been quietly pushed back to the new console, or maybe it'd be a dual release on both like Breath of the Wild was for the Wii U/Switch.

I think it'll be sep-oct and then it will be released in march 2025. Just like Nintendo Switch OG. But I'm maybe more curious to see what's going to be this year lineup. After Paper Mario, the only release that we know is Pokemon

There was always going to be a next console, the switch wasn't the saturn, dreamcast or wii u! It was a smash hit which meant we we're always getting a new console, this tweet means alot regarding a direct but nothing regarding a new console, it's like mcdonalds saying we will make more burgers eventually

I don't think Nintendo even has a hard date for Switch 2 launch. They just gave us a window and I think that window is just gonna get smaller and smaller for the next few months. My hope is that they give us at least 3 months notice before it drops, but I think we had 6 months with the Switch before launch? I think it'll be clearer once we know their Switch plans for the rest of the year.

I'm curious what the next system could be like. In 2017 the Switch felt revolutionary. It has been 7 years since then. We now have the Steam Deck and other portable gaming devices. I wonder if they'll choose to just upgrade the hardware or try to be revolutionary again. There are well over 141 million Switches out there. If it is just upgraded hardware, say on the level of a PS4 Pro or low end PS5 game, then how are they going to get consumers to invest in it. I'm not saying the next system is going to fail, but I'm really curious to see what they choose to do with it.

Branding for the Wii was so powerful at the time that they kept the Wii title when the U rolled around. Now that they're in another similar situation with the Switch brand, i wonder if they'd name it something like the Switch U. Lol

Right now, I'm not sure what to expect out of the hardware, I'm not expecting a literal retread of the original Switch, but more better. They're probably going to have some sort of gimmick nobody has really considered seriously, though the Switch Connect survey makes me wonder if it will have improved connectivity, be it a dock with anywhere from a basic interface to a built in 3080TI accelerator, as well as maybe a VR kit with its on set of docks. There are probably also a number of other hardware arrangements they may have that one can just plop a Switch into. That said, I would love to be able to have a "big screen small screen' gaming experience where you position the dock somewhere visible near the TV and do the bulk of gameplay on the TV itself with the Switch screen itself displaying status info for the game. As far as marketing goes, I'm sorta expecting them to first mention the hardware and what it is expected to do after the holiday season, somewhere between January and March 2025, and then have us playing it as the holiday 2025 season starts to kick up.

Of course there's a- they're not just going to stagnate and stay on the Switch forever. It's just a matter of whether or not it's similar to the Switch. I believe it's going to be similar but have some new twist to it. It's similar to the situation with the DS and the Wii, which were both ALSO wildly successful systems. Their next ones were largely based on those: Wii U was basically a stronger Wii with off-screen play and asynchronous multiplayer built into it, and the 3DS is just a stronger DS with the 3D feature. Of course, this is also going to be the first console/system whose development wasn't overseen even a little bit by Mr. Iwata, so this will remain to be seen. Patterns are set to be broken at this point. EDIT: "Successor" can mean anything. To succeed the Switch just means it has to follow the Switch; it doesn't necessarily have to be anything like the Switch to be a successor. This announcement isn't really confirmation of anything we didn't already know in terms of their next console/system. Other than a simple confirmation of something that should be seen as an obvious fact; by the time a console is released, R&D is likely already working on figuring out what the next one will be.

I'll jump on the hype train just for you. Here's my personal predictions: The System: Back in 2021 or so Nintendo had released some document that mentioned they'd be using the same strategy they used with the Wii and DS for a potential Switch Successor. I'm going to guess that meant gimmicks, the way I see it is that this hardware won't be just a straight Switch 2. It'll likely keep the Switch name much like the 3DS, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, even the SNES/Super Famicom. I feel like they're going do something similar to the 3DS and Wii U and throw in an extra gimmick with this system, especially because it's very likely this system is backwards compatible. As for that gimmick, I don't know, I just want to be surprised. Preferably, surprised and excited, not disappointed. The Formal Announcement and release: I only see two realistic options for this. Perspective 1: The system will be announced sometime after June, and release in Winter of 2024. Perspective 2: The system will be formally announced sometime after Christmas 2024, and release in Spring of 2025. edit: can't help myself, here's some bonus predictions! What's done right now: The hardware is likely finished by now, right now they're probably in the process of planning launch window titles and marketing. I think it'll be natively backwards compatible, the only thing that could stop compatibility is gimmicks, otherwise it'd be like the wii u and 3ds, the hardware of it's predecessor(s, the wii u has untapped cube support, and you guys already know the 3ds has the gba's arm7) will be baked into the system.
