I was actually most surprised to learn that Dr. Kawashima is an actual person and not just a character created for Brain Age. Seems like a respectable fellow as well, donating his would-be royalties.
I'll never forget the first time I played Game as a kid, it introduced me to so many concepts and gameplays that defined my gamer career. I'm so glad DYKG and Person gave it the coverage it deserves
I'll never forget the climax of game. The twist was one of the most shocking I have ever seen in a video game. After I beat the game as a kid, I was so sad (and still am) about the ending
Honestly, the Starfy cameo in Super Princess Peach is super hilarious to me; like, his disguise here is just as clever as Superman claiming to be a different person while wearing glasses. Hilarity!
I remember watching my older brother play the N64 version. Years later I got to experience the game on my DS. One of the most fun games I played on that handheld.
Since vinyl records have sold so well in the last few years, there is now a 10-20 year gap of people who never used a record player, so now younger people are MORE likely to use one. In most stores today the vinyl section is twice the size of the CD one, if not bigger, which hasn't been the case for nearly 40 years
@@jendorei i'm talking selection, not just space. They are the size of 4 CDs but only 1/2 as thick. I'm old enough to remember long-box CDs, which were made to use the same displays that held records. Both Walmart and Target have exclusive colors or versions, which collectors snag. Also it's nice to have a copy to listen to since original pressings are skyrocketing in value.
@@shibba2517 And here I am, wanting to get a good record/multi format music player so I can listen to Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas on Vinyl like The Chimes of Midnight and some of those Ninth Doctor Audio Drama’s ( *which ACTUALLY stars Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor* ). You really don’t appreciate how much better it sounds compared to cd’s and MP3 files, do you?
hearing that not only was G&S was such a special game for Gamefreak back then and because of that they put so much time and effort on the remakes, but that they also put the Heart and Soul names in the titles to communicate this feeling of affection with Pokemon as a whole, really filled the soul of the younger side of Me with such joy
12:24 i can answer that. When you don't have the assets, you use placeholders to set the "mood" of the scene, and then later the actual assets can be more easily made by just showing to the other team "hey, this is what we're going for, make something along these lines".
@@recht_voor_zijn_raap5506 When this video first got uploaded publicly, they accidentally used the temp. title “Game feat. Person” instead of the actual title of the video. Hope that clears it up
21:20 Probably worth noting that Kingdom Hearts Coded was originally a mobile game on the NTT docomo service (a lot of old Japanese mobile games were) which was released episodically.
The last fact about pokemon taking 3 years to develop just so we get a good game really dampens my heart since they seemed to have changed their attitude to making recent pokemon games
More likely that they have stricter deadlines pushed on them by The Pokémon Company to have the games released on a schedule that aligns with the anime and TCG's schedules. Scarlet and Violet had multiple glitches that even most smaller dev teams wouldn't let happen (like using 2 controllers to double your character's speed). No studio WANTS to release games in that state, it's pretty clear that it's an outside source.
Dude I bet working at game freak is hell, I just know the Pokémon company will never give them enough time for their games. We already saw how much potential they have recently with legends
AAA games nowadays typically take 4-7 years to make and that's with teams of hundreds of people as well. GameFreak don't have that time or that size team, so their games are going to be lackluster.
Welcome to the _No Man's Sky_ era, where every developer knows Stockholm syndrome will get them praise for releasing unfinished crud and 50% patching it up later.
They took lots of time on Heart Gold and Soul Silver because they wanted to make them better and better. Then look at what happened with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl...
@MarthOfHyrule and by "half-as*ed" you mean the games took lot more effort to make after Gen 5 because everythings in 3D now but that leads to less content because the development time is still the same so fans pretend they are just lazy now, heck the perfect example for that is XY as those are the games with most effort put into it in the entire series yet those are also some of the most content lacking games in the series as well...
I played since Emerald. I remember being 14 and playing black and white on my crappy windows PC through an emulator. Even though it was slow and buggy, it still became my favorite Pokémon game.
@@caspay21 Both games have become cult classics in recent years. But, as someone who has played every mainline Gen 4 game, y'all are probably better off with those emulators; those games can feel sluggish without the 4x speed.
Ah, Game. I played it when I was a young child and have so many memories with it. I revisited in my later childhood years and made even more. In my adulthood I would play it at work. I am now approaching my middle-adulthood and my memories with Game will always stick with me.
I'm happy that Cing made the decision to make Hotel Dusk (and Last Window) vertical games. It's such a unique mechanic and Cing was really great at doing unique things with their games. I think both games would be quite less interesting (but still definitely a must play) if you didn't play them in a vertical style.
Apart from my dad's original Gameboy and N64 the DS was my first gaming system and it will always be special to me. I bought a DSi a year ago and was surprised to find out how well many of the games hold up, although a lot of them suffered from devs trying to include touch more than made sense. But still it's one of the few systems where emulation doesn't come close to original hardware since it's so unique.
@@XXXXX8 Because it costs five times the money, is harder to repair and I don't care about 3DS games since I never had one growing up. Also watch your mouth.
@@notscorchingsands9718 And they didn’t give Grezzo the time to make a remake that went harder like they did about ten years ago. Nintendo gave them time to make great remakes of Zelda games, what’s The Pokémon Company’s problem with making time for quality products?
@@notscorchingsands9718 Grezzo is the third-party company that made the Diamond and Pearl remakes. But they *_ALSO_* remade The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Link’s Awakening for the 3DS and Switch, respectively. They were given *TIME* by Nintendo to develop these three games, and 2/3 were great remakes! The Pokémon Company doesn’t give even their third party developers the proper amount of time to make quality games anymore, you either do it under their absurd time crunch, or you don’t work.
2:36 Pretty sure that's a reference to namahage, oni (ogre spirits) that kidnap misbehaving children. Sort of like a Japanese equivalent of the Krampus.
I still remember the day I bought Super Mario 64 DS. I remember telling my dad it was a game about Mario’s life, I guess? But I remember using that exact wording lol. I’m pretty sure I was in 1st grade, so around 6 years old. I’m 21 now
Hearing that fans had such high expectations for HGSS and the team decided to put more time/effort/polish into those games makes me sad since that's not the case anymore.
L take yes it is It’s not their fault they were effected by the pandemic The games take multiple years to develop They still care Also They can’t delay the game The franchise was designed so that every aspect of it has a symbiotic relationship The games can’t release without the anime the merch and the manga and the manga the merch and the anime can’t release without the games And it’s about time you all understand that by now They are doing their best trying to balance the games with the tcg and the anime The Pokémon franchise is like a game of jenga If you move one thing it all falls apart They are doing the best they can sorry I’m the only one who appreciates that Unless you want them to hypothetically release the Gen 10 anime and then wait till the anime gets to Gen 15 to release the Gen 10 games I know that the game isn’t perfect and that there’s issues Pokémon is a franchise where the theme is friendship is magic and meeting cute and cool unique monsters What the hell does graphics and performance have to do with those things? Nothing if you wanna criticize a franchise criticize it on whether or not it delivered on the messages and themes it promised Was friendship magic? Did you meet cute and cool unique creatures? Ok then it’s a good game Those are what’s important to Pokémon As the og theme said Pokémon is about Oh your my best friend in a world we must defend I will travel across the land searching far and wide each pokemon to understand the power that’s inside Our hearts so true our courage will pull us through you teach me and I teach you” That’s what it is about and that’s what it will always be about and if that’s what it continues to be about until the end Then that’s a strong enough ending for me Not sure what graphics and animation and performance has to do with that Performance graphics those things never Mattered They are trying and they do take their time sometimes development is impacted by outside factors out of their control

I have bought and downloaded a lot of Nintendo DS video games from the Nintendo eShop onto my Wii U Virtual Console and I sure hope that Nintendo are going to put their Nintendo GameCube video games and Nintendo DS video games on the Nintendo Switch Online soon so I can play them at cosplay conventions and UCLA.
