When the Wii U’s 4th birthday came the switch was already announced.

The change of management has only shown that Nintendo cares more about numbers nowadays than they do about quality.

What’s bad is I would love a collection of oot, mm, ww, and tp for the switch but they will just sell each for 60 bucks and yeah I’ll buy them either way unfortunately cause Nintendo knows they will get people like me to buy it again

I get your point. The Switch is their new "gameboy". A name that stands for a line of consoles.

I think they'll do something like this: * Switch Plus 2021 Holidays / Spring 2022 * Switch II (Switch 2) 2023 * Switch II Lite 2023 * Switch II Plus 2026 Etc... Until one day when it's obvious that some new technology or way of gaming is the way to go (VR? AR? Cloud Gaming? Running all the games from your phone through a Nintendo app?)

4 years later and I still do not own a Nintendo switch, I still have a Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS XL.

Super Mario 3D Allstars is a disgrace, and a dark cloud casted from Nintendo. It sort of indicates to me that they aren't trying at all, and that is sort of scary. A modder released a 3ds version with 60fps, antialiasing, and higher textures and it is groundbreaking. Nintendo is NOT trying in certain facets and I just hope it doesn't affect the next Zelda.

What I really like about these new Wii U ports such as 3D World plus Bowsers Fury is that they're kinda used to experiment with future Nintendo game ideas. Like I feel bowsers fury is a tech demo for the future of Mario, and a good tech demo at that

Overall I’m fine with the switch but the joy con problems, the fact that the switch lite still has these problems except you can’t actually detach the joy cons, the fact that they decided 2 years after the switch launch to start to charge people to play online, and the fact that a ton of its library is just ports, rereleases and indie games makes me feel that the switch isn’t the best Nintendo console. Not every console can be perfect but I can probably think of 10 consoles/handhelds I’d rather play than the switch.

Wow, 4 years already... geez... I got my switch in September of 2017, as they were impossible to find that year! I remember being at college and my buddy texted me during lunch that best buy had some in stock. Well i immediately got on the next bus and went to get it. I brought it and went back to college, and ended up an hour late to class. I literally showed up to class carrying my switch brand new in the box, and didnt have any books i needed for the class. I sat at the back of the room in awe and actually unboxed it during lecture...

Does Nintendo have anyone like in the old days with a clear idea of where the company should go? Without a clear vision or respect for their customer base they may end up failing to build on the switch’s momentum.

Can't believe it's been 4 years already. I love the Switch and remain hopeful for it as I hate playing games on handhelds and prefer large TVs. Was hoping the merging of home console and handheld divisions would really pump out the games. Hope Nintendo does keep the hybrid console format moving forward.

In Italy we say "Chi disprezza compra" which roughly translates into "One buys what one disses". Wii U has been dissed by Nintendo fanboys more than any other console in Nintendo history. Not even the Virtual Boy was criticized so much. Now the very same kids are rushing to pre-order each of those Wii U games cannbilized by the Switch.

It's about time we get a pro version of nintendo labo.

11:27 dude, we're already freaking out that 343 removed digital downloads of ALL Xbox 360 Halo games. I was lucky enough to download Halo Reach before 343 surprised us. I was also considering Halo Wars too I guess that ain't happening.

Adam, I have a galaxy fold 4 that essentially functions as a switch pro when it comes to gaming. I can't justify buying Nintendo specific hardware anymore. I just want them to allow us to buy their games and play em on pc and mobile. I hope you cover this in the coming anniversary video

I was surprised about the fact you didn't mention not even once the Animal Crossing name during this video. Considering how that was the third best selling game in USA (2020) and it became the all time highest selling game in Japan, I thought it would get at least a shout out. That's the one thing I miss about your older videos, when you would show the console next to a pile of the most important games that were released in the previous year. Edit: with that being said, I like the message you gave about wishing Nintendo to not repeat old mistakes. My favorite part about these videos has always been watching the predictions because wether or not they become true is irrelevant, what is nice is rewatch these videos in the future and realize what people thought would happen to Nintendo.

I just got a Switch finally a couple of weeks ago. A Switch Lite to be specific. With the news that the main processor chip is ending production this year, I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten it when I did because I suspect that scalpers are going to buy up the remaining stock. Because that's what they do.

I kinda get your point with the 3D all stars thing but remember the 25th anniversary of Mario was literally a direct port of Mario All Stars from the SNES onto the Wii. Not even the controller symbols were changed. Plus it was also a limited run

They say history tends to repeat itself, and I too sometimes worriy about Nintendo getting cocky and ruining things with the next system. I hope they remain focused.

I think they're gonna start mining the 3DS library soon. Also based in the new OLED name for the new model it's probably going to called the "Nintendo Switch 4k" or something like that.

For the Super Mario 64 pc switch dreamcast and other ports, it was not from leaked source code but from a decompiled rom which means that even more work was put in than just using the original source code and also makes it legal.

I'm just amazed a console that's less powerful than the PS4/Xbox One is still able to be released in 2021. I hope they release a Super version so more 3rd party games will come to the system and current games will run/look better

Super Nintendo Switch. It kind of makes sense. The NES was a huge success and followed up with Super Nintendo. The Switch has been a huge success. Plus when you say the full name, you still say “Super Nintendo” in the name. “Super Nintendo Switch” makes sense

My guess for them using emulators instead of porting the original source code was to test the emulators for future switch online services. Like a N64 online or something like that.

Kinda funny how four years into the switch's life I finally get a Wii U and treat it as my current gen console. Oh you got breath of the wild on switch? That's cool I have it on wii u. Mario 3d word? Me too! As much as Nintendo screwed (and continues to screw) their wii u owners, I actually feel good about becoming a late adopter. While the switch is better in every way and is getting (in most cases) better ports of the wii u games, I'm just happy to have a cheaper way to have similar experiences. Is that just me?

I agree that they probably won't create another brand new console series. I kind of feels like every Nintendo console has been leading up to the Switch, and the Switch has the DNA of all of those consoles combined. They've found the perfect formula.

I don't think a new console successor is coming anytime soon. If you compare modern computers to the ones 10 years ago. They isn't a great deal of difference in terms of processing power. That's because we're no longer seeing doubling of processing power like we did every couple of years in the 90's as a result of thinner cutting lasers. Since the 00's we've mostly seen more cores added to processors leading to the increase in parallelization . However, not all computing tasks can be parallelized.

I'm really waiting for as you tried to imply the switch 2, because nintendos handheld history has always had backwards compatibility with games. You can do that with switch games and perhaps even make the inevitable successor just run the games better by default like the series x can for xbox one games. No more sub 600p resolution games would be very appreciated lol

Oh hey I bought Thief Simulator on Switch a few months back! The game is extremely poor quality but it was on "95% SALE" on the eShop for weeks, hence why it was at the top of charts for a while. I think I got it for 1.99$ or something like that. It's hilarious that Google thinks that game is Nintendo Switch in 2020 haha!

I agree with a lot of your key points, Adam. As for the Wii and Wii U ports, I wanted to mention I (mostly) willingly spend the extra money on them despite having owned a Wii U since 2013 and a Wii since 2006 because I want to play these games portably. I prefer the portable aspect of gaming but prefer 2.5D and 3D titles. That makes the Nintendo Switch (and Lite) invaluable to me.

I see the Switch as a WiiU pro too. But I also see it as the next gen portable instead of the next gen console. And agree in that I don't see them droping the "Switch" name brand and hardware model for the next thing they put out.

Minor update Adam, the textures were redone via the source code in the Mario 3D All Stars, it wasn’t just a straight emulation

9 times out of 10 if a game is released on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch I’m buying it on Switch for the portability option alone. So many great ports on the Switch honestly like LA Noire, Mortal Kombat 11, Bulletstorm, Bioshock Collection, Borderlands, Assassins Creed Black Flag, etc and etc. That’s why I love the Switch so much.

I think the portability of the switch is the main reason it has seen such monstrous success. I have and have known others who have bought games that we already own just to have it portable. Not only that, we are willing to pay the premium price for old games like Skyrim, or Borderlands, or Bioshock just to have that different experience. Its been so successful, I am amazed that Sony or Microsoft has not followed suit with a similar device. PS Vita and Nvidia Shield were close, but they didn't seem quite there in comparison with what Nintendo has been able to do with the switch, and they certainly did not get the support they needed from their respective companies to be successful anyway. Yes, you can play PS4 on your Vita but it is just not optimized in terms of controls and setup and has always seemed like more trouble than it is worth. Just being able to casually grind on a game while netflix is playing on the tv is a different experience from the all encompassing experience of playing a home console is. Not taking anything away from those experiences, but Nintendo is satisfying a demand that other companies should look at too. If i could buy a handheld device that would let me play base PS4 games (in terms of graphics) in handheld, i would do so. I think many others would too.
