@@MrToastyYT I don't agree with him that much, but he's kind of right. It is easy to take it out.. but I can see why someone would want to be able to dock the switch with no problem.
Kuilet That’s not the point, when a 3rd party can do a better job than a multi billion dollar company that’s an issue. We shouldn’t have to send them back to Nintendo or mod them ourselves, Nintendo should just make actual quality products
@@nickp7364 true indeed the fucking joycons are 79.99 plus tax the most expensive console controllers EVER TO DATE. Crazy because they are in no shape or form better than a ps4 and xbox one controller which are cheaper
Hey Kevin, I know you don't want to make people mad or jealous but just admit that the Hori Split Pad Pro is the most comfortable grip that can reproduce the feeling of having a pro controller in hands while docked to the switch
For anyone concerned about how to transport the switch separately from your hori splits, amazon has a ton of controller cases. You can throw them in your bag with one of those hard cases and still have your switch joycons attached in your regular case.
I take split pad pro over those two anytime. Not only because its 100 times more comfortable but also because with the Hori you can still attach external powerbank ( GuliKit for example) to your switch...
@@chironthecuddley6144 when I seen them I didnt think they would be that light they got nubs on back to help stabilize the screen. I really dont think you can add a battery case to the switch with them on. But you can still dock with them on. Some one sayed they may reduce battery consumption do to not charging joycon batterys. I'm out of state so I cant play with them and find out but I plan finding out. So if it does and the fact th that they lighter may make the trade off even more worth it with v2 switch.
i’ve used both and based off my experience, id much prefer the satisfye grip! The hori split pad pro is nice and the buttons are definitely a lot nicer than that of the original joycon, but in terms of comfort they just don’t have a good grip. I have semi large hands and i just can’t really get a full grip with these things. Its a shame because I definitely liked the buttons and sticks that came with it but it just wasn’t worth it for me. Not to mention the portability and the look of the switch with these meaty joycons on the side. Im all for the satisfye grip! Even tho the buttons arent as good as the split pad, the Comfort and features of the joycons are there :)
I'm a very large person at 6'5" and the Hori split pad is amazing for my giant hands. The joy cons even with a grip were just uncomfortable to play with. The back buttons and turbo functions are great to have for older games or anything with button mashing. Wish it had rumble but that's the only thing wrong with it.
I would say the new update on the Satisfye was mainly done to address the issue of scratching. It also serves a dual-purpose of retention. The downsizing and decreased grip angle likely fits medium hands better.
Over time, in my personal quest to try and get the optimal (for me) handheld Switch experience - (which mainly was to have a proper d-pad and comfortable grip), I have obtained both versions of the Satisfye Grip shown in this video, the Hori D-pad controller that replaces the left joy-con, and the Hori Split Pad Pro. Let me get the "tl;dr" version out of the way for those looking for a quick summary: For me the combination of the Hori left D-pad controller and the newer version of the Satisfye grip work the best (while kind of a tight fit, the hori d-pad controller will fit with the newer version of that grip, but not really the older one). For my more detailed thoughts: I bought the first version of the Satisfye Grip when it came out, and it is a great product. However, the main issue was still the lack of a d-pad. Around this time I also got the Hori D-pad controller that replaces the left joy-con, but due to it being shaped somewhat differently than the regular joy-con (as mentioned in this video), it really didn't fit into the grip... at least not without REALLY forcing it, and it was just not a good idea to try all around. I preordered the new version of the Satisfye grip well ahead of it actually coming out. In the time between preordering and receiving it, the Hori Split Pad Pro came out. I ordered a set to see if maybe it would be the answer to my mission of getting a combo of a d-pad and a grip. While it is a good, well functioning product for what it is capable of (and has the other advantages outlined in Kevin's video), I just found the grip, itself to not be nearly as comfortable as the Satisfye grip. I would still prefer the Hori Split Pad over using no grip at all, but IMO it was a major difference, and not for the better. So that kind of disappointed me. And at that point I wasn't holding my breath on the new Satisfye grip working with the Hori D-pad joy-con controller. But then later I received the new, upgraded Satisfye grip. In looking at both the old and new grips by themselves (not attached to the Switch) and comparing them, I noticed that the difference in the shape of the area where the joy-cons sit seems to potentially give more room that might allow the Hori D-Pad controller to fit. So I tried that out, and it works rather well. It is a tighter fit than when using the actual left Nintendo joy-con, but the new design of the grip with the aforementioned shape differences as well as it now having all of those rubber nubs everywhere so that the Switch didn't touch the plastic directly made it much easier to get it in there. As the grip is not "technically" designed to work with the Hori D-pad controller and it is a tighter fit, so disclaimer, if you try this, you are "technically" doing so at your own risk, but that risk is rather minimal IMO. There are a few benefits to this. The comfortable grip and d-pad are, of course, the main ones. But the other advantage is that you are still using the official right Nintendo joy-con. This means that you still have Amiibo support, and a somewhat more limited form of motion controls. Obviously it can't do everything motion-control-wise that it can with both first party joy-cons, but when playing Super Mario Odyssey, for example, I was still able to do the move where I shake the Switch and Mario throws his hat in a circle around him.
I was also curious about both. I currently own the newest Satisfye grip, the Pro version. I was looking into maybe getting the Hori split pad pro. Satisfye has stated on their Facebook page that the most current Satisfye grip, the one with the red rubber protectors is compatible with the Hori D-pad joycon. Are you saying its still a tight fight with the newest satisfye grip? Either way it seems like you still prefer the newest Satisfye grip. I have a feeling if i order the split pad pro i am gonna still have the same gripes as you.
@@iColassi The Hori D-pad controller does fit into the Satisfye Grip Pro. But it is a somewhat tighter fit, which is because it just a little bit wider than the first party joy-con. I didn't realize that Satisfye is officially advertising it as being compatible. I just put the little disclaimer in my initial comment because I basically tried it on my own and wasn't sure if it fitting was Satisfye' actual intent.
Thank you for the insight. For me ffs satisfye shipping cost is half the price of the grip itself(italy) , i cant pay 40 euros for a grip. Im gonna try OIVO grip from amazon(18euros)
This is actually a hard choice LOL. Your giving up HD Rumble, also it won't fit in a case, when attached, like when using a satisfy grip/case. Also some of the other grips, have a kick stand, that would sacrifice being able to put your grip and switch into a case, like the satisfy offers. Also some cases have more than one game holders/game holder flap/some cases hold more games, vs the satisfy case, where it only allows for one flap of games vs the two you get with some other cases. The other final question is, do the after market/Hori pad, use more battery, when in handheld mode, compared to traditional joycons? I keep a 30thousand mah battery pack with me, so this PROBABLY wont matter to me, but its still something that should probably be asked. It seems like there isn't a perfect option/your loosing SOMETHING,depending on the option you choose.
Used the Split Pad Pro with Gunlord today and mapped the right custom back button to jump and made the game super awesome to play. Dual twin sticks and jump on the back custom button made it easier and more comfortable to play.
Just bought the Satisfye, my joycons are are fixed and I'm excited to play handheld games without the inside of my palms hurting. Also I love how you film in 18:9
I love the idea of the split pad, I just wish they took it a step further and included wireless functionality and gyro (rumble would be nice too). People would pay good money for that kind of third party joy con because it basically replaces the need for classic joy cons.
Split pad pro is very nice. It feels like a full size controller because it is. It's not perfect though with no motion control or vibration. They make the switch look really big but it's way more comfortable to play.
Hi all. Just letting you know that I received my SwitchGrip Pro yesterday and it's already leaving black marks on my joy-con. These marks eventually resulted in scratches on the original model. In case you're wondering how, the left joy-con is being marked by the upper lip of the grip that sits slightly on top of the front-left side of the left joy-con. There is no silicon buffer here. I've contacted Satisfye for a return and refund, but I wanted to ensure people are aware of the potential for marking/scratching to still occur along the front edges of joy-con.
really appreciate the heads up - I ordered two old grips from satisfye, one left blacks marks on the sides of both joy cons, the other was fine. Meanwhile I also ordered to Hori split pad pro and for me this is by far the best comfort I've ever had playing handheld mode, I really don't miss rumble or motion controls - it's a great trade for having bigger analog sticks and buttons. I take that trade any day of the week.
@@stormbringer5660 I pre-ordered mine through amazon and they said it's coming october 10. So I cancelled the order and got them through ebay for $20 more but I don't care cause I'll have them in hands on Thursday 😊
I ordered the following case which isnt made for the Switch but fits it perfectly with the split pad pro. Users who have ordered on the amazon page have posted pictures of their split pad pro switch fitting perfectly. So this is a solution for now. Khanka Hard Travel Case Replacement for Numark DJ2GO2 | Pocket DJ Controller
Watched your split pad pro review video last night, bought it this morning. Omg it made life so much easier, I could hit the right buttons and hold it so much more comfortable, and love the customisable buttons on the back
This is my setup which I believe is the best option if you’re not worried about joy con drift. I’ve never experienced it and it if happens, I know how to replace the thumbsticks easily. -Satisfye slim grip case -Customized joycons with see through shells and a dpad -horipad mario thumb grips
Got it today. It's awesome. For the 5-7 times I'll play the Switch on the go in a year it's just perfect. Buttons and Sticks are much better than the original Joycons.
I'm expecting to have the same experience since I'm not able to enjoy it as a handheld. Satisfye did a nice job but I'm still getting more play time on the tv and it feels like I'm not taking advantage of the handheld option as much as I want it to (or at least as much as advertised 😅).
This is a fantastic review that highlights the pros and con of each one. I definitely agree that each has their own perks and diff games will require different things! I'm the type to buy multiple cases for each situation so I really appreciate this :)
The split pad pro is awesome, i think its the best optional controller I have then I know. I don't know about the satisfy grips because I don't own any but from the looks of it the split pad pro may still be the better option. I would still get the satisfy frips just for the smaller form factor for the joycons
Thank you very much for making this video! I’m hoping that in the near future someone will make a high quality case that will fit the Hori Switch Split Pad Pro along with other accessories.
I think I want to pick up a satisfye! Thanks for the review. I love your videos sir! I have some feedback though, something about the shots toward the end that started at 5:44 was a bit unpleasant to look at. The first half of the video and all of the b-roll looked amazing but something about that angle (looking down at the camera) was not my thing. Otherwise, a phenomenal job as always.
Don't understand why the split pad pro was released without at least all the features the base model joy con has. I'll wait until someone does that and pick up one of those instead.
I own both. Split Pad Pro is better for chilling on my bed, while Satisfye grip is better for travelling since it actually has a case. Due to quarantine, Split Pad Pro currently permanently lives on my Switch.
I hope Hori changes the body, making it more ergonomic. That would make it head and shoulders above any other option. Best scenario is if the Nintendo switch PRO will come with super ergonomic joycons. Just cut the pro controller in half and stuff joycon parts inside. Bam!
Yeah I agree, I wish Nintendo did that. Alot of these 3rd party companies always cut features and their products never look as good as the quality of the console manufacturers.
I'd go with the Hori Split Pad over Satisfye simply for the fact that I can actually go put and buy the Hori here in Canada. If it weren't for the lack of availability of Satisfye products in Canada without the absurd shipping costs and exchange rate, I'd already own one.
As someone who bought one during the crowd funding stage, I highly recommend the satisfye grip. Once you get it, you'll wonder how you ever went without it.
Pretty sure Switch has built in motion sensors . So no matter the controller you use, you will have motion controls. Hand held mode uses internal motion not the joycons’ .
I bought the satisfy for my new switch, holding it makes me feel super secure using my switch. My last switch was almost impossible to use in hand held because the rails where super loose/broken. I don’t have to fear that now, but I do hate taking it off💀
My reason for getting the Split pad Pro is the joysticks, the original ones got the drift problem in the originals and also the replacement pair I bought, no more. I won't get another original joycon until it's officially fixed. The split pad pro is just what I need.
@@charlespeach Wrong! There are motion sensors inside the console. Go into the Switch settings and you'll see a Calibrate Console option right above the Calibrate Controllers option.
Labo VR proved there is gyro in the tablet itself. I do wonder if some games require both gyros on both joycons though. Or if some games still use the joycon gyros in handheld mode. Might be a problem then.
just got these and it's a god sent for those of us who plays FPS in handheld mode, the analog stick are definitely full controller grade and controls much better. now to find a case for these....
Rip Joycon drift, but a lot of BotW mechanics, as well as some puzzles, are dependent on motion controls. Though the mechanics can be controlled with stick inputs instead, it’s way clunkier and much less reliable, and there are a few puzzles that require motion controls to beat.
@@yoloteh1585 Split Pad Pro is easily the best thing I've bought for the Switch. I never use my joycons in handheld anymore. I've been considering buying a second set just to have in case something happens to mine or they stop making them.
Yolo Teh - I wouldn’t say I have “long” fingers, but I don’t have short fingers. My palms are big though. If you like the feel of an Xbox One controller then the Split Pads will be really similar to that. I don’t have a single complaint about them. The joysticks are noticeably comfy, d-pad is great, the buttons all have a great feel to them, the assignable buttons on the back don’t get in your way at all like you think they would. One of the things I like most about it is the fact that it makes your switch feel so much more sturdy when you hold it. You can literally swing it around with one hand while gripping it and it’s just so naturally stuck to you
The Hori from a design perspective is probably better. The two analogs are offset from the d-pad and abxy like a traditional controller which makes the buttons much easier to actually press. The grip while makes the hand rest more comfortably unfortunately does nothing for the awkward layout of the buttons on the original joycons. Honestly, if nintendo had made the joycons a little wider, it would've probably eliminated the need for a grip in the first place, the button and analog layout would be way more optimal, and they would be much more enjoyable to use as individual controllers.
Split pad pro is night and day from the original joycons. I sat on the fence for a month deciding between the Split pad pro or the vivefox. Got the split pad pro and I love it.
And now a company on Amazon made their own split pads that have more of a grip and extra back buttons; you should check those out now and probably do another comparison.
The original model of the Satisfye grip is great but significantly damaged my console and I'm sure many others', but they didn't take any steps to help previous customers when they quietly revised it.
I feel you missed one major point the pro joy cons you can still dock the switch. With the Gripcase attached I am pretty sure you need to take the case off every time you want to play it in dock mode. Which I find a real pain.
@@poopsniffer4436 I have all the platforms and honestly, a Switch is only good if you enjoy every first party nintendo games lmao. Otherwise you did the right thing.
I decided to go for the split pad pro. joycon drift is a real serious issue that I don't want to deal with, I have 2 pairs of joycons that already suffer from this. the grip case's biggest flaw isn't the fact they're a custom grip ontop of a pre-existing controller, but rather the fact the pre-existing controllers straight up have a high failure rate.
@@endriti2234 assuming you intend to exclusively game in handheld mode and not table top or docked then yes, it is very durable, although finding a case that will fit it with the switch will be a little bit annoying as you'll either have to get a larger case for it, or put it separately and have to detach and re-attach them every time you want to use the Switch.
My biggest downside with the pro joy cons is that there is no case for it. I take my switch to work every night (overnight shift) and I always have it in a case. Without a case, that's a no go for me because I am not going to have these things just flopping about in my backpack just to have something break or bend or what have you
Have you tried any of the folding, hybrid case/covers, like the one from PowerA? I'm curious to see if it's possible to protect the switch alone with those plastic tabs on the back. That would be a little more convenient than hunting down a massive case to fit it all. 🤔
I should be getting my hori split pro controllers in a few days. I'll give them a shot over joycons. I really like playing in desktop. So I may run into some conflicting issues with these. 3 things I plan on finding out is: 1)Will the hori split save on battery do to the tablet not trying to charge the joycon batterys. 2) can you attach them to a joycon charging grip if you remove the back piece and still connect via usb-c as a spare wired controller. 3) will it be able to connect to other battery sources to the switch or to the dock.( undoubtedly has different backing where buttons are)
Thanks for the review! I've had the Satisfy grip for quite some time now and really like it as it's very comfortable. I've tried the skull and co grip and did not like it at all as my hands hurt after using it even after trying out the different grips it comes with. Just ordered the split pad pro, and I'm hoping it will be as good as everyone says it is.
How did you like the split pad pro? I've been using Satisfy for years and love it. But. New things always appeal to me. Just curious your take. 2 years later. Lol
@Velkro FPV I like the regular version of the split pad pro, but not the new smaller version that they just came out with. I find myself switching between the satisfy grip, the split pad pro, and the fixture S2 for my Switch Oled, depending on what game I'm usually playing. I have been using the split pad pro a lot, but I find myself using my fixture S2 as my main way of playing now that I have it. Hope this helps and happy gaming!
Dude I couldnt believe it. I walked into my local EBX today and they had ONE split pad pro just sitting there. I couldnt believe it... some people have pre-ordered it and won't get the split pad pro until like October.
Joycons are amazing.......if you are 8 years old. They fit my daughters hands perfect. If you are an adult, they are terribly uncomfortable.....especially the way your thumbs curl. The switch seems as if it’s marketed to adults not really kids. Love my Split Pad Pros.
Late to the show but thanks for the comparison Kevin! I think I'll stick with my Satisfye Pro since I bought it with a case and it is very comfortable. I won't lie I would like a dedicated D-pad but it's not a deal breaker with the grip. Never had the drift, probably not hard core enough since I still have my original 360 and it never red ringed! Lol
3 years later, I'm thinking of getting Hori Split Pad Pro after seeing the Hori split pad compact releasing soon too, I got a Satisfye case that fit the grip and console attach in it. I just watch video wondering if it blocks the front USB ports on the dock while docked not sure where I heard or seen in a video if it does, but I will find the answer soon.
I would be completely sold on the split pad pro if it could be used as a standalone pro controller, my switch is normally docked unless I’m travelling and I would still prefer it to be balanced on a carry case
i'm 6'5" with big ol' gorilla hands, and the satisfye is super comfortable for me. I was looking for reasons to also get some split pad action while already having that though, so thank you for that!
Hey Kevin could you do a battery test with the split pad pro vs joycons, yeah it has to be attached at all times but as it doesn't need to be charged like conventional joycons it should lead to longer lasting battery in theory.
@@Genew1218 Re-read before commenting, please. I was talking about how the Split Pad pro doesn't have to be charged as it's connected directly to the switch and is not being charged unlike the joycons when which attached to the switch still are being charged by it thus draining the switch of more battery.
