Buzzwords are a thing. However the word IP is not that new. I noticed the same thing happened with RNG. there was a time where everyone was using the word RNG in their videos and descriptions. RNG was not a new concept back then either but all of a sudden everyone was saying it.

From what I understand James isn't a modern gamer. I don't think he plays any of the newer consoles, just sticks to old games when he has time to play...which probably isn't much time considering all the film projects he does.
Pretty underwhelming to me. Zelda looks great but I am not buying day 1 for 1 game. I may bite when Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey come out. Nintendo didn't do much to get me excited for their hardware yet again. Gimmicks, price point, and lack of games.
Haptic feedback (hdrumble) is still pretty expensive unfortunately. Retards will pay $150 for an 'elite' xbox controller that can do what a $30 steam controller does, so people will buy that shit anyway.
The reason the Steam controller isn't selling well is because its part of a niche market, not because it is bad. It's actually pretty cool how the controller looks and feels, it's just not for most people. I'm comfortable using a mouse+keyboard so I don't need a controller that acts like a m+kb, and I feel like most people are that way.

Zelda is worth it alone. That one game blows away the shitty launch that the ps4 and xbox one had. they had terrible launches. but most console have terrible launches now. also there's more to a console life than just the launch.

Its sad to think that when u really look at what the switch has to offer, its really nothing like "wow" u know? now nintendo might surprise us with some surprise unannounced releases that will be amazing. Hopefully. But if not, yeah. Having to wait till 2018 to get one game. yeah. not worth 300 dollars plus extra.
It's not like it's the entire list of games that will be coming out. There are games like Yooka Laylee & Lego City that are never mentioned. Plus, who's not to say that Nintendo will reveal more games? Plus, there is still E3.
That happens with EVERY console reveal. Happened for PS4 too, and Xbone. It always happens. 5% is actually GOOD since its often more. Secondly, it went UP 7% before the event, so it basically only went down 2%.
I'm not sure if I'll buy this or not. Bought the Wii and Wii U for certain big name games, like most of us do. But I don't sit and play them for hours on end like I use to do, day after day. Unless it's Monster Hunter, I can pound out 600 hours easy with this series. But then the system sits...haven't touched the Wii U in 2-3 years now. Mostly playing 3DS or PC now. If MH is announced for it, I'll break down and get the system right then. But I'll wait til 2018-2019 before I buy a system that I will play a couple of games and then have it just sit.

Technically, it's actually better than it seems. You gotta admit, a game using only the sense of feelings is pretty cool. A game that relies on feeling may seem lackluster but, Nintendo is known for using weird concepts and turning it into something interesting.

Guys, guys, let's all be *REAL* here for a sec: The "switch" is an outdated console with weak and old hardware at this point... #FACT. What they should have gotten us excited about is NOT the console itself but THE GAMES for it. #FACT. Mario and Zelda are *THE SOLE SELLING POINTS*. I do not think that anyone is raving about "Arms", a new "Splatoon", "Minecraft" or "Mario Kart 80"... I'm sorry but I think that everyone has realized these things as hard as some will try to hide or neglect them.
What are you talking about? Splatoon has taken over everything. It has been the only thing I've been playing on the Wii U for a long while (and I have plenty of games on the Wii U).
I'm excited for it! A lot of people are giving it hate, but I think it's a nice refresher from the other two consoles out there. Joy-con is kind of a throwback to joystick which has a nice nostalgia. The features on the Joycon seem really neat!
The tech demo thing is completely necessary. Game development studios are really block headed. They didn't do that for the Wii U and most game developers didn't even know that the Wii U supported any other controllers than the game pad. The Wii U actually had almost just as much flexibility as the switch but no video game company knew to take advantage of that. They thought every game developed for the work would have to be a giant 3ds game.
Puyo Puyo Tetris actually has multiple modes. So it's not just Puyo Puyo switching to Tetris and then back again. It came out a few years ago but it's awesome it finally gets an English release. Minecraft is on the Switch.
What customer-friendly Iwata-Nintendo would have done: Let people at the very least use their Wii U Pro controllers. I think Iwata's customer friendly Nintendo died with him.

There is no reason to have Skyrim on the Switch. It will look like garbage and by now I'd imagine that everyone who wanted to play Skyrim already has, on a better system.
The Nintendo Switch is more powerful than an Xbox 360/PS3 so the remastered version should look okay. I've never played Skyrim, I was thinking about getting it on Xbox One though.

You guys hit this perfectly and why I'm not pre-ordering the console. You have 4 launch titles with only one that most care about being Zelda. One game does not a console purchase make.

I don't get the problems with mk8 deluxe. It looks like it had new tracks, new gameplay modes (or at the very least a much improved battle mode that people were clamoring for), updated graphics, new characters, etc. Beyond that yes MK8 was one of the best selling Wii U games, but the Wii U sold horribly itself... so a lot of people have never played it. Is it just the name you are complaining about, or is it deeper than that.
I agree. It really just sounds like their issue is that the title is Mario Kart 8 with the word Deluxe added. What Mike was saying it should be is exactly what it is, minus calling it MK9. Well, assuming there are new race tracks too. They haven't confirmed either way yet. But it does have a real battle mode with a bunch of new maps. And yeah it makes sense to have this version come out earlier on, especially for people who didn't get the Wii U. MK9 will come later.
Mike an open world game technically can have a load screen every 2 seconds, for the game to be classed as open world all it needs to have is a non linear world where you can explore every place whenever you want up to the end of the in game mission/quest.

I give that thing 1.5 years of shelf life and after that Nintendo will be SEGA 2.0 Even if i had kids i would not get a 300$ system for maybe 10 games in the next 3 years. Every WIIU owner i know has just Mario Kart, Mario Bros and Smash Bros and this would happen to them again.
You either count old and shovelware games or never had a nintendo console since the snes if you do not understand this. The WIIU had 32 launch titles, 15 where old games, 10 where shovel ware, 4 where not so great. So you where stuck with 3 titles.

the main point is that nintendo has been focusing on the kids and party games where in the past they had variety for kids and older alike. maybe its because they want to keep all games in house and not work with other game companies.
Personally the new Mario reminds me of Sonic '06 and that is not a good thing... There were some parts that had that Mario charm but those strange realistic areas feel just too out of place.

Don't knock getting a new Metroid game. That's a game Nintendo should be making for the Switch. Games like Skyrim are best played at home on a real TV, same goes for Zelda. This portability feature is nonsense.
It would have been nice to bring to recess in third grade. It might be nice on a flight, but adults have no real use for long term portable gaming. Nintendo is a global company, so it may work well in Japan or something.

Wario64I The Dreamcast's failure is what killed Sega, not Sonic Adventure. Mario is a human character, so putting him into a city isn't that much of a stretch. Very different from how jarring it was seeing a giant blue cartoon hedgehog running around and interacting with people.

The reason they made a redesigned Mario kart 8 and a similar Splatoon in because not many people had a Wii U so to the people who didn't have a Wii U, these are new games.

I think Nintendo has pretty much been the same company since the NES days, they didn't make Castlevania or Bionic Commando, third parties did, Nintendo made stuff like Duck Hunt, Balloon Fight, etc. Problem is third parties not making stuff for Nintendo because they like to work on Powerful consoles and they just port old games or make casual/small stuff.
Nintendo still hasn't learned that nobody cares about the motion controls anymore, they're stuck in 2006. Also stop ripping people off with overpriced accessories, their console is $300 which is the limit for an underpowered system.
Wow, its almost as if accessories are OPTIONAL and also priced fairly for the tech thats in them! And I sure do wish they would say that you could turn off motion controls for all announced games so far...oh wait. They did. $300 is the cheapest console to be released in the last two generations when you adjust for inflation.
There were reasons why Nintendo booked the presentation in the way that they did. Name all the games that make you use motion controls... Overpriced accessories, because you're going to get better luck with XBox...
My husband and I wound up staying up late (he was working) and we watched your reaction and the Nintendo stream. You pretty much reacted like we did and this discussion here with Ryan is continuing on our train of thought on this console. That presentation was atrocious. It desperately needs more games (especially for launch). I was hoping for the Mario game on launch or soon after but holiday 2017 is rough. I'm not much of a Zelda fan.
Nintendo should include one Pro Controller with each console and make the Joy-Con controllers as an extra option. Not many people play multiplayer games together offline anymore and one Pro Controller would be all a majority of players would need. It would even make it "look" like it is up to standard with current Gen consoles and give people more incentive to buy. I bought one Pro Controller with my Wii U and that was all I used. Unfortunately, when I got my PS4 a few years ago, I never touched the Wii U again. Most game developers release games on PS, Xbox and PC these days and Nintendo have already been left behind. They need to do something that will revolutionise home entertainment like they did with NES in the 80's and this is not it. Maybe they need to collaborate with Sony again and release some titles on the PS4 instead of releasing consoles.
Arms looks dope as fuck, I didn't get splatoon and will be picking it up for the switch because I've heard it's awesome, and the new Zelda and Mario looked insane! Combine all that with the fact that you know all of the titles that will be coming out on mobile and all of the ips that would have come out on 3ds will be coming to the switch because Nintendo combined their home console and DS developers, and that means there's going to be so much content - along with third party support! At this point anyone looking for negative things to say about what's coming in less than 7 weeks is a lahooozaherrr...

Imo best kind of starting line up would be something like this: Mario (to cover your base) Castlevania/Metroid/Megaman (for your more adult audience) Zelda/Final Fantasy/other RPG (covering your fantasy gaming base) Random party/multiplayer game
I Am Setsuna is already available on other platforms, and it plays just like Chrono Trigger. Own it, beat it, I'll probably get it again on the Switch to support the devs. More JRPGs are needed.
I'm going to be VERY disappointed if the Virtual Console doesn't have Gamecube games or GBA games. Those two systems, especially gamecube, really got me into Nintendo, and there are SO MANY good titles. If the VC doesn't have good titles to offer, then I don't think there is that much reason, except for BotW, to buy the Switch on release day.

I guess Mario Kart 8 is perfect to you now. All the negatives you mentioned aside from Battle Mode was fixed on the Wii U with updates and now the battle mode is fixed on the Switch.

As a 37 year old, I grew up with all the Nintendo games you guys were talking about (Simon's Quest, Zelda, F-Zero, Final Fantasy 2,3 etc.) and while I'm so excited about the new Zelda, where is the Metroid, where is the F-Zero and Castlevania for Switch? Nintendo totally CAN be badass AND family friendly with a variety of games. I mean, I pre-ordered the Switch solely for Zelda, here's hoping a new Metroid is in the works.

And it is Mario Kart 8 with a few new tracks and features.. so I'm confused about what exactly their complaint is. Well, it has a completely revamped battle mode with maps and everything, but still. That's new stuff. Plus new racers and a couple items, the ghost and feather. We don't know if there will be new race tracks yet, but there could be. So we could be getting exactly what they're asking for. It just seems like they're hung up on the title being Mario Kart 8 with the word Deluxe stuck on.
If possible, I almost wish they would one, give you the option to buy the pro or joy con controller with your system and two, create a bare bones controller for people that don't plan to take advantage of the movement features. I bought a PS4 a year after release and I can count on one hand the number of times I've taken advantage of the movement controls.
Saving my money until after the frenzy is done, already sold out on Amazon and Best Buy. Not going to go crazy like the NES Classic!!!! Not enough shown to make me want to jump in on launch day!
