Emio is the next console. You put the cartridge in his mouth and a projection of the game comes out his eyes. The "gimmick" of the system is that it's a creepy person who you have to keep in your house just standing there in your living room.
Ngl, as unlikely as it is, I would be stoked if the actual intent behind Emio was to promote a Super Paper Mario port. I've always wanted to play it. :)
The scariest part isnt even the trailer, its just that the video title is exclusively "emio". No "emio trailer", "emio-nintendo switch", nah, its JUST emio.
Whomever is on the marketing department for the game probably knows how to properly promote a horror project. Longlegs did something similar with its teasers, not giving away the name and actors until like the third or fourth teaser. Fear of the unknown is quite effective.
@@pattersong6637 You know, I just heard the Direct announcer talking about Emio on his low, kinda creepy tone he puts at times... I think he most recently did for Darkest Dungeon II or something like that.
Every few months it just pops up, in directs you see Emio standing in the background behind Furukawa, or you see the bag on the floor with blood on it...never actually addressing it, just having it peek in every once in awhile.
The M rating is particularly interesting. Most games that are in development that would be rated M have a completely different disclaimer, where as this is just a straight up M rating. Considering you can't really get a game rated until much later in development, this implies whatever it is has been worked on for quite a while already, and is probably closer to being released than not.
@@pattersong6637 That's what I'm thinking, personally. ESRB ratings are usually obtained 3-6 months (though the latter is usually the result of a game being delayed, like cyberpunk 2077) to release, so it would line up.
I'm just glad the rating is there because that means that it IS just a video game, and their channel didn't get taken over by a demon or something, which was my guess when I first watched this and didn't see the rating.

One important detail is that the game has already been rated by the ESRB. That makes me think its release can't be too far off. I can see this launching on Halloween.

Imagine launch titles for every person to give the Switch 2 a huge boost from the get go. Metroid Prime 4 is basically already confirmed, the new Mario Kart should be ready to go too and then this mature horror game.
Its worth noting that somebody wouldent "typically" read it this way. It should be read as "Emi Otoko" , this is where "Smiling Man" keeps coming from. The Single " O " reading for 男 is pretty uncommon, and used here as a kind of Japanese Pun. The only " O " reading I actually know of is 毒男 【どくお】meaning "virgin" or "loser" lol. Im sure there are others, but not commonly.

I'd be down to see Nintendo do some effed up horror game sh*t. Because it's usually the "family-friendly" ones that does the most impact in creeping you out in the most subtle (or blatant) way possible.
'Remembers Dead Hand in OoT, Waterwraith in Pikmin 2, the screams in the boss arenas in Splatoon, everything fucked up in the Kirby games, all of the incest and necrophilia in earlier Fire Emblem games...' Nintendo is REALLY good at that...
@@rotciv557yeah some Nintendo games do have scary moments in an otherwise non scary game, but I don’t think that constitutes well enough for full horror. that’s more like a neat novelty than anything. If Nintendo does a horror game, I hope they don’t skimp out on dark themes and imagery because of their current audience. It would be cool to see a game cater to the people who own nintendo consoles, but usually prefer titles more mature than the Mario’s, and Pokemon’s (such as myself)
If this is a new horror IP from Nintendo, they likely figured the best way to advertise it was the minimal approach they’re taking. It’s got everybody talking.

@@rotciv557 I mean one with a bigger budget and production. They've had games that emulated the fps style as well, but Splatoon truly feels like the one that actually blossomed into a larger franchise. I feel like this game will have the same effect.
Drawing a face on a paper bag with marker and putting it on your head is the cheapest Halloween costume you can manage so I feel less scared and more bad for him. Like Emio is living out of his car and spooking the best he can, but he can't even rent a suit like a Slenderman or if Michael Myers got caught stealing that mask. He's an underdog in my eyes.

I really hope this is a first party Nintendo horror game. Nintendo is the king of video game mascots, a horror mascot game from them could be incredibly cool!! Especially with all their unique ideas/gimmicks they could potentially bring to the genre

Apparently お is an alternative kun-yomi reading for 男, so it’s just “Emio”. I always wonder whether native speakers would immediately read something like this “correctly” / as intended.
Nintendo dropping an analogue horror type video certainly was not on my bingo card this year. There's so much intrigue. A very simple title, no description, just a 15 second teaser, a M rating, and the name. Edit: Y'all are taking this joke comment way too literally.

I think he's mostly joking honestly, and I kinda gotta agree. The editing is a lil spooky, but it does have sliiiiight vibes of a creepypasta chadacter that a 10 yo came up with in 2011
My guess is it's either a new IP or Fatal Frame, since the editing on this just screams Fatal Frame. This looks nothing like Eternal Darkness though, I'm not sure why people are going there. Or maybe in the next trailer we'll see mr. paper bag man take off his trench-coat, and it's actually just a couple of Inklings underneath. Surprise guys, it was just Splatoon being weird again, next DLC coming this Halloween!
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the next trailer has the 'a Hideo Kojima game' logo there. That man is busy on PS, Xbox and Pc, why not Nintendo
If I had to guess this'll be a Switch 2 launch title meant to draw in a more mature demographic, weird that they would start teasing it this early but this years schedule is packed so I cant think of anything else.
That's kind of what I thought too and I think it's a good move at this point. A marketing strategy that commonly gets levied against them is 'well your games are for kids, our games are for mature gamers'. Well it makes sense then to remind us that their mission statement isn't just games for kids, it's games for everyone.
@@ellpoyohlokoh Legends Z-A is almost certainly a Switch 2 title, the whole game is confirmed to takes place in a urban environment which just ain't happening on Switch 1 after Scarlet and Violet.
It's murkier than that because there are things that seem to indicate it's not Bloober, like them stating it's being published under their internal Broken Mirror Games label, but then the single Tweet Broken Mirror Games has made is one congratulating Nintendo on selling 140 million Switch systems with a piece of weird horror concept art? And Bloober's been weirdly open about Project M being a thing, even confirming it went into production in February 2023 and then saying they pulled developer Draw Distance off the project while still targeting 2024. Everything about that is weird and unlike Nintendo, and yet the Japanese website for Emio's files are tagged with Ms.
NO, not Bloober, been disproven. Bloober is a western dev, and western devs don't use japanese text in their game and trailers lol. This was made by Japanese devs. This was made by Nintendo.
They seem to go back and fourth, they will have 1 super weird experimental year and than 3 ones that play it super safe and than another crazy off the rails year
