nirvana heart shaped box demo you may notice that the lyrics may be slightly different to the final version and apparently this song was origianaly ment to be called heart shaped coffin but i don't know if its true or not
I love how they added "Forever in debt to your priceless advice" twice before going back into the verse. Wish the studio version was recorded this way.
^Can't stay away it seems. Even though I love the music to an insane degree, over the last 3 years I've grown to be annoyed that someone who achieves their dream, after all the trials etc., and has a young daughter and wife to care for, just goes off and puts a shotgun in their mouth. Honestly, on bad days, not being able to achieve or even know my own dream, I think of kurt as a d-bag.
@@xbrakx Think of it this way: if he killed himself after working so hard, achieving so much, and even starting a family, that gives you an idea of how much shit that man was going through. Depression, drug addiction, marital issues, etc. It all really got to Kurt, and it seems he grew to really dislike the massive amount of attention and drama that would constantly be around him after becoming so mainstream and famous, with so many eyes upon him/way less privacy, and people trying to make a profit out of him, weariness and trust issues surely developed. With that being said, perhaps someone else killed him 🤷♂️ who knows, but Kurt definitely had a troubled soul that's for sure, hopefully he's at peace now.
@@prefix253 suicide is a weakness. No matter how much you sugar coat it. It’s devastating and selfish. Judgement day is nigh. We’ll see that Courtney murdered him
2 things 1. the “are we rolling?” at the start is probably one of my favourite bits 2. idk why but the first verse in the song sounds straight out of a smashing pumpkins song
Probably cause the song is about Courtney and him falling in love with each other but she was with Corgan at the time. She sent him a heart shaped box filled with chocolates and dolls as a gift but Kurt had just got broken up with and was determined to stay single for atleast a year. Again all while she was with Corgan
I definitely like listening to this version of the song than the original album version. I often end up liking an artists lesser known songs or demos just for the fact I haven't heard them like hundreds of times.
i personally love kurt's guitar playing. truly a one of a kind approach. he could express so much in just a few chords, or bending the hell out of a few notes. really can hit the spot. he just played his own way and his sounds were incredible for just a distortion and a chorus pedal. he was very aware of his skill level.. always saying that he was a terrible guitar player etc. but he just had that touch, was an amazing artist n songwriter. his lyrics, vocals, and how he wrote his melodies still inspire me and leave me in awe.. like i said before.. just one of a kind.. and i find him incredibly inspiring.
no cover is better original version. his voice is really the best forever for me. I think the success can be really negative for somepeople. For other persons, it's an happy moment of their life. Heart Shaped Box is (for me) one of the best Nirvana's song. Love. LM
Cover version? A band that's recording their music will usually do several takes of a song and pick the best/favorite one to put on a record. Then that version gets mixed down, some things get turned up/down, effects are used...the rest just lay around. Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes bad...but as a fan, it's nice to hear the other takes. The Stooges had an 7 or 8 cd boxset of the recording of Funhouse. Overwhelming to listen to as some songs were done tons of times.
With these original lyrics, the song meaning changes drastically!!!! It is obvious about him feeling guilty about having any enjoyment in life(sex) while a beloved one is suffering from cancer!
Barkeroni demos and live versions of songs are my absolute favorite versions because of it's rawness. can't get anymore raw than that. i appreciate the mistakes and all.
the lesser the "human", the more the perfection, that's the meaning of a studio, cutting off the unnecessary shit into perfection, it's more of a "sound-cooking" place you wouldn't be saying that if studio version never existed, you'd even ask for it you know you're right, though.
I could imagine when the solo comes in everthing just falls apart. Kurt was a genius making it sound like that. It goes so well with the track the bass, the drums everything is perfect.
@@camacaron06 Your right about the joke part but we dont know what happened to him he probably killed himself. I love kurt but he is a drug addict and had mental issues so more than likely he killed himself.
Gage Also just because someone has mental issues doesn’t make them suicidal I doubt he was suicidal as he refuted those claims in 1994 on two occasions
I think In Utero was mixed really well, so i don't prefer this one to the studio. Nevermind i'm completely different though, the mixing was overdone for me as iconic as the album was. Prefer demo's on those tracks.
patchh15 Exactly! Nevermind is one of my favorite albums of all time, except I never actually listen to the studio album... Only live, and demos. Its just the way this music is supposed to sound.
it was his band though. it was his vision. it was his artistry. it was his voice. nirvana was Kurt. yeah, dave and krist helped in the energy they added but at the end of the day, if Kurt wasn't in the band, there would have been no NIRVANA. the same could not be said for krist and dave, more so dave. shit, they had tons of drummers and they were still NIRVANA. dave is also my favorite drummer and he added so much to the band's live sound but he was still just the drummer. Kurt was the artist.
Well he wrote the music played guitar and sang. So, it was basically Kurt Cobain with three dudes that played live. The artistic part was like 95% Kurt.
You guys, pisces is Kurt's zodiac sign and Cancer is Cortney's . The heart shaped box signifies Courtney's Vagina whom Kurt is trapped in her seduction and he can't control it. She uses this to power him. And hates being in her control with her sex. Is why he says " i will kill your cancer when i turn black. " Meaning when he turns black he will be dead and will haunt her. This woman has tormented him to total abliviation and hates himself for it. Is why i think they changed the demo probally because Courtney knew it was about her. Is why while Nirvana was being interviewed, they were asked what the song was about.. the world like a storyline, Nirvana replied that he didn't really know .. then later when it was thought about, producers incooraged Nirvana to make it into cancer patients.. what a joke.
I've heard this before, it's really shitty everything that had happened to him. I dont think she killed him tho, but i think she has some blame for what happened. RIP Kurt
I don't what or who Kurt Cobain wrote this song about but the lyrics to this version which were later re-written and changed in certain parts on the other version that appears on the in utero album but every time I hear and listen to this version I think of the late Brigid Mary Bazlen who died of cancer she was an actress from the late 1950's up until 1972 and I didn't know that she passed away until 3 years ago and she passed away in 1989 she was only 44 years old and at the time I was only 11 and I am now 38 the only reason why I didn't know about her death was because it was never on the news on TV or in the newspaper at the time except for it being in the Seattle daily times tribune and it was never put in her biography on Google Wikipedia until about 4 or 5 years ago and when ever I hear and listen to this version of Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana I think about her
Some sources say it's written about Courtney, some say it's written about cancer itself, but always from Kurt, it was stated that he wrote songs last minute because it motivated him and his creativeness more.
albert weaver it's about wanting to leave Courtney love but they had a child together and he was in love with CL but he couldn't bring himself to leave her....
RU-vid can be accessed in countries across the globe. Considering that it is an international website, that guy isn't exactly a foreigner. A foreigner to your country, maybe. To RU-vid? Not at all.
@innerauthor yes, because it was a very common way of thinking........ there are whole counries that teach kids from school on that only way to do it is righthanded
@Nirvana19871994 If he taught himself, he probably learned to play guitar "Incorrectly". I'm right handed, and I did the same thing in middle school until the music teacher saw, and stopped me.
You reply to a string of argumentative comments with something that brings us all back to the music. I like that. Would Kurt have liked to see people arguing like this? No. Come on, just listen to the damn music (a "universal" and "international" thing in which language does not matter) instead of arguing about unrelated topics. It's stupid, quite honestly.
As much as I like the album version, it sounds just as polished as Nevermind did in the end, just poorly recorded (keep in mind, I DO love the Albini mix of the album version, but the final remixed version sounds so... bleh) If you ask me, this is what Nirvana sounded like live, not the final pressing of In Utero...
@lilelios apparently his parents made him write righthanded when he was little? cause it was the 'normal' hand to write with....? can anybody confirm that?
Google translate is not something I'd rely on. I have a friend who speaks Japanese and sometimes on MSN he'll text me in that language, if he says something short it works okay but if he says something long it gets everything wrong.
@T-B-A-T-B-B I can't remember, but I have three assumptions: 1. It was common back then for RU-vid videos to have these typed out banners that covered the video if you didn't deselect them, words typed by the uploader (ie. Please Subscribe) and the uploader might have done one in Spanish, but it would be gone now because RU-vid has changed. 2. It might have been the title or description of the video originally. There is another comment by me under the same video where I'm giving the Google translate version of a Spanish comment, so the one you replied to is me saying "I don't really know if my previous comment/translation is correct" 3. Comment threads were completely different back then. Some comment threads are scattered now and you'll only find bits and pieces. It might be that you are seeing one or two comments I left within a thread of people talking, but now all you'll see are a few random comments that have no purpose
@T-B-A-T-B-B also, there was a lot of "troll drama" regarding Nirvana videos, so a lot of the specific trolls had their accounts banned over time. I had interactions with some and now you can find comments directed at no one because the person I was talking to was a troll using another account. It was complex
I have to disagree on that one. Mainly because of the way Kurt sings it in the demo. He's out of tune quite a bit in the demo, plus I like the solo much better in the studio version.
