Great review Rauri! I like that it has hard stops and that it tells you what stop it is. What a handy feature. I have been dragging my feet (rather being indecisive and saving money) on getting some more filters. I currently have just a circular polarizing filter and a 10-stop ND filter. So, yeah...I am missing a range of filters that could open the creative door just a bit more! If I were to win the giveaway prize, a 77mm filter would be the size I need. 😉 Thanks again for the fantastic review! Have a wonderful day!

More of a comment on the product - here in the UK a 62mm K&F will set you back 25-50 UK pounds, where as the Nisi product in the same size is 100-120 UK pounds. You pay for what you get in terms of optical quality and performance, and it is always a good idea to thoroughly research your purchases before parting with your hard earned gold. Or, as someone said to me years ago, "Only buy once". Great review sir and chuffed that companies are reaching out to you to review their offerings - clearly you are attracting some attention and it is richly deserved. Stay safe out there buddy.

Great review! I have used a 5-stop K&F variable ND and like your 1-9 found it wasn't very accurate in its strength - the end was stronger than 5-stop and still caused the X. For the price it was ok, but you do get what you pay for and the Nisi does look great!

I'm thinking of getting the individual Nisi screw on filters, like the ND64 and the ND1000, because I kind of don't trust the variable ones not to have some kind of cross show up on images at certain settings. Every variable one I've looked at from the cheapest to the expensive ones I've seen reviewers say they have had this and I've always stuck with individual ones for my past cameras. Am I crazy buying individual ones. I do like doing extreme long exposures of over 30 seconds. I'm torn between buying the K&F Concept ones and the Nisi ones. There's great reviews on both and really I'm on a budget, but I can stretch to these great brands knowing I won't have to fix major colour casts in every photo and knowing they will last a lifetime. Anyone tried the individual screw on Nisi or K&F Concept ones? Are they better then the variable ones?
@BrisbaneChannel
@BrisbaneChannel 2 года назад
Good clear explanation of the qualities of the filter. It's funny that the K&F filters get that X thing when they specifically market them as not getting it. Glad you demonstrated that bit, 'cause I may have wasted my money on one if you hadn't. Since my main lens has become unusable and I've switched to a 16-35mm lens for RU-vid, I've not been using an ND filter, 'cause the one I have for that lens diameter is cheap, has a colour cast, and is hard to turn (it was on my camera when it slipped and hit a tree at Lamington and the outer ring bent a bit). So I'm actually gonna put my hand up for an 82mm Nisi VND! It would allow me to get back to using apertures as a creative decision rather than just to get the right exposure (that video I've been working on for so long that hopefully will come out tonight was all over the place with apertures as light conditions changed).
@RauriBarron
@RauriBarron 2 года назад
Yeah! The KF gets exponentially worse at the higher stops, interesting how other reviewers avoid it, there are some reviews on their site which explain the issue. Hi R! 2:36 not the only option - I've done a video on RSMB before - it was cinematic enough to use in a major studio release e.g. The fighter (2010). These are useful if you want to not post process but that rendering takes only seconds in my computer. I do like these for timelapse photography in the day time though as RSMB doesn't do as good of a job in that regard. I would like a 5-9 stop of these nisi they look quality but I'll use my fixed 6 stop until then. Thanks for the review Rauri!

Thanks for watching! Haha yeah that’s why I put text on screen, it’s the only way to get the right exposure (F stop and SS) according to the 180 degree rule, of course you could beef the shutter speed up. What is RSMB? I believe it’s more post processing right to create the effect?

1) I will have to buy a variable Nd filter for shooting in bright condition , they come in two ranges , 1-5 and 6-9 ,in very bright light 5 is not enough sometimes and if I buy 6-9 it is darker than I need from 7 onwards , so might have to go for either a bright look or a little dark footage than perfection sometimes, so several people on the net are searching for 3-7 range ... if I don't want to change my camera settings to brighten or darken , the question that just crossed my mind and I wanted you to share your views on it is ..... should I buy 1-5 and darken it later or 5-9 and brighten it later ? which is more preferable ? 2) if I use c log , does that mean it already neutralises the image so 1-5 stops would be more than enough ?

I have similar issues with a GOBI vnd, no markings, keeps spinning. You would think K&F, with the way they have grown and upped the quality of their filters they would at least make their vnd ones much better quality and not just the glass like they have. I’ve just bought the K&F Magnetic Systems but the kit only has a UV, CPL and 10stop ND, I will buy their ND8 and ND64 in due course but as I’m on a tight budget that will take time and the GOBI vnd I have I really try not to use so I’m desperate for a decent replacement, Nisi quality is beyond reproach, and my wallet unfortunately ( 58mm thread would be ideal )

I have been using the XT4 for video for a few months, today I used the A7iii again for video… man it’s so good even for an “old” camera now, AF is amazing, dynamic range .. different, not better or worse, but I guess I can’t compare oranges with apples. Do you do video outside of making RU-vid videos as well?

@@RauriBarron the a7III is still a top camera. Shoots 4K I don’t need anything more than that….well not at the moment 🤪 yeah I shoot promo videos for companies that they can use on any of the platforms they may have. The last one I made was for an Apple company that makes juice, jams and other things like that. They do a lot in the summer with small get togethers with food stalls and drinks with some music for the public to come and enjoy. That was a fun video to create.

@@paulkennedycreativemedia that’s awesome! Nice work mate, I’d love to see more of your video work, I’m always interested in other creators commercial work. 👍 I want to start doing more independent work, but need more time from my full time job, and if I work on weekend my wife may ask for a divorce 😉

You can "Cat the edge" precise with some drill bit to "fit" the lens cap with ND handle. You can use cap and have the handle on. :) just sayin. Yes is destructive to the cap but if you do this very precise you get very good results and nobody wil notice that isnt "made by factory"

Hi Rauri,another good product review video. I use the same lense 10-24 72mm for my fuji system. I have the 6-9 stop karse but the x effect is always there. I think NISI ND1-5 is the best choice in the market as its true color feature and x cross control. If I am lucky enough to get this give away,it would be very helpful for shooting video and photo under bright sun. I really want to try this out. Your video is very inspiring especially the content in SEQ region. Keep up the great work mate.

@@RauriBarron I will do that,it is why I invest the camera,I used to just have gopro filming only pov view,the seascape of some fishing spots are very epic which making me think of landscape photograph and fishing should go together. If I dont catch the fish,at least I get the photo,even more motivated.

@@user-mw6xl3lo7n that does sound like a great combination! Lots of outdoor activities go well with landscape photography 😊 So I assume you’d need 72mm filter thread for your video lens?

I was quite pleased with the K&F variable ND, but you don't really notice the differences until they're side by side. What is the price of the Nisi like, compared to the K&F? Great video anyway mate - looking very profesh as always. 🙂

Thanks Rob, yeah same, I thought the KF was ok until started to test it out more, the X effect at higher stops is practically unusable. The 82mm is $219 for Nisi and the KF is discounted down to $99 from I think around the same price as Nisi (but not sure how real the original price is 😉) as always discounted. Thanks again mate

Should have compared it to K&F 1-5 stop.

Unfortunately I’m not made of money 😂 I compared what I have and used before. Overall, Nisi glass is much better than KF

I think Nisi do a far better job than the k&f as you can really see that more money has gone into the product. You get what you get for the money in K&F I think.

Hello, Thanks for the review and for the giveaway. I am a new filmmaker and trying to achieve the cinematic look but i can't. After buying my camera and lens i don't have money to buy a VND filter. Its very helpful for me if i get the filter. My lens is 24-70 f2 and it has 82mm filter thread. Fingers crossed. Thank you ☺,have a wonderful year..
