Hi Jim Paolini here just wanted to thank you for your video on Nissan 3.0 timming belt couldn't have done it without it I will send a little donation when I get back on my feet thanks again Jim
Outstanding job! This video is the best I've ever seen at engaging the listener to the job, taking away the fear of doing such an extensive job. U Da' Man!!
Thanks for this video! I have a ‘93 Hardbody SE and I find it hard to find good instructional videos, with depth. Especially with a tougher projects, like the timing belt... Much appreciation.
Thanks for the information, I really appreciate what you r doing... I am an a/c tech and when ever somebody ask me for help, I have done it at no charge...May God bless you and keep you busy.
Way late but this makes it look way easier than I imagined. Thanks. I have an oil leak that drips down the edge of my timing belt cover I need to find and need to replace water pump and fan clutch so this helps tremendously.
I think this is whats going on with my 86 Nissan long body, oil leaking from seals n gaskets on the passenger side. I heard a big pop when I was driving it n the trucks lights went on n the vehicle turned off. Im diy-ing it myself n ur comment is reassuring. Cheers!
@@lichenthropy1646 I had a few leaks. Passenger side cam seal, crank seal and oil pump gasket. Haven't gotten around to the oil pump though since I haven't had the time. So much has to be pulled out.
Thanks a bunch. Girl used to fixing a 76 F250 who just traded out for a Pathfinder here- I'm either 30k past due, or 75k away...and don't have $850, so I thank you, I'm going to take a run at it!!
You're a Godsend! Thank you for putting in the time in these DIY vids. I'm frustrated beyond belief working in the tight engine area of my 94 Pathfinder. Can't even SEE that stupid thermostat to replace it. Your vid is saving me hundreds getting it done myself!
i agree the guy is a Godsend i didnt waste any time either by taking things off that didnt HAVE to come off just what was needed. Also what bolts should be getting locktite thin layer of RTV on the gasket after all this tear down i ma in for another 6 bucks of sealer to make sure i dont have any issues.
Did you say your name was Will? I am not sure i got it? I stumbled onto this site as my water pump went on my 1996 villager i was very worried about the valve timing etc never did one before.and i dont need to tell anyone that you cant see anything in the vans motor sideways NO room at all this lesson/lessons were great i just put a 2 hours into it and i am ready to pop on the new timing belt lots of cleaning etc. I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH ! ready to go everything clean clean clean marks all lined up so what i did with the money i saved i put in all the new parts you said to thermostate belt water pump etc very very happy keep up the great work
Hi robinsonauto, thank you for posting this vid. I just bought an 1989 4x4 3.0 v6 truck that has the interference engine. A man that had done some work on it said i should replace the water pump and timing belt. I checked the weep hole on the pump and i could not see any leak on it. I have not taken any thing apart yet to check the timing belt condition. I do not even know if the old belt has any timing marks on it. I understand it will when i release the tension on it. Did you lock the crank?
Great vid. I really appreciate it. Question: When I try to take my fan shroud off, it gets caught on the fan. Is the fan sticking out too far? I have to kind of bend and contort the shroud (often pinching my fingers lol). Thank you!
okay I understand this video is old but I have 2 newbie questions that I'm praying you can help me with robinson: #1 what exactly did you use to remove the harmonic balancer? I know you said a chain wrench but in what way was that able to torque it enough to move it forward without spinning the crankshaft? and #2: as for getting all the timing lined up (this is the really, REALLY newbie question) how exactly can I be sure I'm at TDC before going in to remove everything? I appreciate the video it's been a lot of help, just curious about these two things.
@hondaslave shes not complaining lol, its more the time i spend working that bugs her to be honest, yea it was to hot in the shop to close the windows, sorry about all the noise
I have the same engine in my pathfinder. My trucks power has bogged down at lower RPM up until about 3K. Runds really slow. On the highway seems OK but it lacks power big time. Any suggestions?
Thats great…But, How did you remove the crankshaft harmonizer with a chain tool? I have my crankshaft pulleys off but the harmonizer needs a puller tool.?
Why do my gas gauge works some time and sometimes not? Nissan 1993 d21. V6.tryed cleaning it when I replace the pump.could it be a ground? Because sometimes it would simply start working on it on
hello i have an 88 maxima with the 3.0 please help me on this job my question is when u shut the engine off do the cams and crank marks allign? if they dont can u just take the old belt of and put the new one on without cams or crank turned????
i have a 95 pathfinder with v6 and bypass hose above thermostat needs replaced and gaskit on housing were it and top radiator hose goes. how do i get all that stuff out of way with out removing timing belt. i can't afford to replace a bunch of gaskit's so need video to see how it is done. can do it just need to see it done so i can books never worked for me always hands on hope you can help robinson cause this video scared me not even close to were the hose is above thremostat. thanks
hello there i have a question i have a 88 maxima that i need the timing belt changed so u saying as long the cams dont move and the crank without the belt its ok to take the old belt off and put the new one on???????? a my missing anything here please help how about making the cams to the back cover on the engine so if they move u put them back right were they were?? a my correct and if im not mistaking the new belt should have the same amount of teeth right>>??
question on taking the lower timing belt cover off in order to get if off u have to take the harmonic balance wheel off right cause i have to replace water pump let me know asap doing it today i just wanna know whats the best way to get the screw off the harmonic balance and whats size socket is it
always align the marks before removing the belt then simply install the new belt with the marks aligned. what happens when you remove the belt. the valve spring tend to tern the cams. and if you don't have the reference you may be out a tooth. also on an interference motor if you try to turn the, crank or cams while out of time you will bend the valves, i have seen other techs do just what your saying. making new marks with a marker and so on. its easy enough to align the marks
Hi, being a broke college student, im currently working on my nissan pathfinder 2000 v6 vg33e. I removed my timing belt without aligning the new belt. Now im a bit worried reading this comment. Do you have any advice/suggestions? Thanks!
Ok, I have a huge question. Is there any way to check the timing belt without taking everything off? I have a 94 pathfinder and I think I might need to change the timing belt, but I want to know if it's bad first. Because once I take everything off, unless it's brand new, I might as will change it right?
I just bought a 90 Nissan Pathfinder v6 and installed a fuel pump I had from a 2400 Hardbody but psi rating is supposed to be the same now if I can only find a hatch gate glass I'd be set to drive and hope nothing pops up but will at least get it a1 while I am rebuilding the manual transmission for my z motor Hardbody
I want to know why you didn't show what you used to get the harmonic balancer off with, It may have been improvised but it would sure help to know what you used.
+Tim Dove I used a chain wrench at 9:30 into the vid, should have shown this step better. I apologize this is an older vid. I was still fairly new to the RU-vid sharing thing at that time.
+robinsonsauto I understand, I'm working for a used car dealer that has no shop manuals and I'm not use to working from youtube. I've noticed all the videos I've found leave out some of the steps and I do thank you for your quick reply.
Hey I have a Nissan 300zx 1991, the water pump broke. Do you think is necessary to take out the timing belt or we can just take out the water pump? I went to see alot of mecanics and some said that I had to remove the timing belt and other said that I dont have to remove it. The water pump doesnt go with the timing belt.
Awesome vids. Appreciate your time and experience. Not related to this video but if you could help that would be great. 175k miles 1995 Nissan pickup king cab xe automatic v6 2wd tranny no reverse, drives in neutral, drives in d, drives in 2, no 1 What might be the problem and what to do? Thanks for your advice.
@robinsonsauto if u are doing a timing belt job, just routine maintenance if the timing belt did not jump or break. Is it as simple as loosing the tensioner and removing the belt and putting a new one on with new tensioner without having to adjust crank and cam sprokets. Because it's all still in time??
@jboydmv90 thank you, yea its time consuming even being experienced, i put over 5hrs start to finish and that's with no major issues. i also took care of the brakes for him, i couldn't justify letting it leave like that, what a mess that was, put another 3hrs in the brakes
I want to have my daughter's 1999 Nissan frontier's Timing belt, and water pump changed at the same time we put in her new tranny ...how long will it take to do the timing belt and water pump? Does anyone know???
I have a 1997 3.3 pathfinder. tensioner on timing belt broke. how do i tell if belt jumped a tooth or two? what is the correct procedure for replacing the belt? Im asking because if it jumped a tooth or two all marks would be off. Thanks
Great video ..i got some thing screaching like either water pump or clutchfan. It is scratchy sound with a screaching..not a hi pitch squel..can. You or somebody out there tell. Me difference in sound between the two when one goes out. Thankx
thanks for making this video saved me alot of money doing it my self, im not a car guy but i work on bikes, quads, small engines so bolts are bolts. but again thanks!!
Hi there, i know the video is a bit old here, i just hope you will see the comment and answer! I have a nissan terrano 2 from 2000, and i think i have a lik at the water pomp, i was wondering if you know the care, and if is the same more or less to change it! Cuz i kainda wanna do it myself! thanks
hey bro ive got a 89 pathfinder 3.0 v6 my manual says for tdc line up rotor with #1 plug on distributor cap shouldnt it be #1 plug on the engine? im one tooth out on driver side cam i cant seem to line it up.im aligned at the needle on timing cover and pointing at #1 wire from distributor.???????????????
excuse is that I have no money and the temperature sensor does not work on my truck I have to change could help me with a video that my truck is a v6 3.0 nissan 87 model
@mwd92 when it come to hand tools, snap on has the lead as far as quality and reliability in my book, however when it comes to the price they can be rel steep, craftsman are great for the price and do the job well, hope that answer your question
I have basically the same engine in my truck I've got a loud sound to the front of the motor almost sounds like something knocking but it sounds like it's right there near the water pump do you have any idea what that could be
Thank the Lord Almighty I found this repair. Dude, I've been trying for a month to figure out my 91 pathfinder. I'm still lost tho, cause my right hand cam is 5 or 6 teeth off it's timing marks, the left hand cam and the crankshaft pulley are lined up with their marks. How the hell do I get the right hand cam to line up with it's marks??? The timing belt is off the motor btw
