Thank you, brother. You save us non-mechanic DIYers a lot of headache and time with these videos. We appreciate you taking the time to make these videos for the good of the car community brothern! Cheers.
Just used this video to replace the passenger side motor mount on my 2002 Altima. It went flawlessly! Nice work on the video. One thing I would point out is that you need a 10mm and 14mm deep socket. Thanks!
Where can I find the instructions to do this to an Altima 02? The mechanic is saying he charging over $500 - I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty so if it's a task I see I can complete I'll give it a go. I changed my own oil , alternator and gas pump. I don't have any experience with mechanical work but if I see I can I will
The bottom bracket bolts ruined my entire flow of the project, I forgot to grab a 14mm wrench for the bracket so I was unable to take the bottom bracket bolts off. Make sure you the 14mm wrench a regular socket won't fit! Thanks for the video huge help! Think I'll leave the back one for the mechanic lol
Great video, I suggest changing the front bottom while the right side mount is off. Lift the engine a hair and the front 1 drops out the bottom w/o removing the bracket...
Great Video. I am a tech and have done that front mount on the ground and it was a pain. It is almost like the engine drops into the mount. I don't remember removing the bracket, but I did jack it up as high as possible and it fell out that way. As for people asking about the rear mount, baby steps. It is the most difficult and you will be doing most of it by feel.
i had no problem with driver side mount...bit this front mount is a real ball buster...tried everything to fit new one in place... watched a few videos also... well back to it..
Ok friend thanks I'll see for the rear cause it seem similar to the front except the 2 screws but god knows it's from up or down I'll try to do first those 3 mounts tomorrow then tackle with the rear one if the weather is still ok cause it's hot and humid in my country so I'll try working in early morning before the sunraise by 2 hrs :)
@@TheWayEverlasting,no, but if you put up how to change motor mounts for a 2006 altima it should be in the listing. That's how I came across it. Luckily I just had to change the passenger side mount.
thanks a million bro! this definitely gave me better insight of what to expect when I change my girlfriend motor mounts on her 05 altima! you got yourself a subscriber. keep up the good work!
@@JonnyBarajas you can't judge like this you have to shake or wiggle to see if there is cut i got mine front looking fine but once took out its shot even passenger side but the rear one is the first one which will be out of service cause it's stressed many time I've seen like you it's OK by light and all what's around it but all are shot just holding by view but once removed you'll see the surprise never done rear usually take it to the shop but I'll do all this time and start with the rear , but if its hard to do it that's another thing 😉
I've just checked mounts I've got a crack on rear front but transmission mount is ok but I think most of the vibration from right side mount but I'll check also transmission mount unbolt it and see if it has cracks or it's ok they are only 3 years old oem I'll reinforce new ins I'll buy from autozone with some black silicon
Thank you The last two mounts underneath seems to be the worst. I will try the front I may give the car to a friend with better experience and more time. ha ha. Thanks for the note how to spot a bad mount out of the box or should we say soon to be bad mounts in three months from testing the rubber. I don't know how hard the mount should be, but pushing with my fingers and it gives way a little makes me wonder about car part companies. Thanx again
I got success will change boot next week end or if I see that it's leaking grease I just put some rtv silicon hope it hold for a whole cause Iam tired working yesterday and today but thanks for your video and RU-vid I saved some money to change the rear mount ;) By the way rear mount center bolt you can take it from up bonnet by removing heater hoses but the nightmare is that bolt and my jack reached it's end can't raise more if I want to do something
Just replaced the right (passenger) motor mount on my 03 Altima. This video helped a lot, thanks! One thing was odd though, I didn't have that inverse nut on the bottom (the one you used the extensions and deep socket to get from underneath). Should I be concerned?
If you have the mount bolt missing, that means someone who replaced them before didn't bolt it back on. The engine won't be going anywhere, nothing to be concerned about.
Sorry for too many question but you are helpfull I don't think power airgun will help in tight place as what I have is battery powered I'll try if I failed with tourqe wrenches to break the nuts but as it's opened previously it shouldn't be hard to open it this timeSo for the rear mount I just have to jack it same way then unbolt the 3 bolts from underneath the engine just want to know supporting the engine and raising little from the same point where engine meet transmission ?Hope I got the answer from you
My two bolts connected to the block just snapped inside of the block, what should I do? I have the motor mount completely off just have those 2 bolts stuck inside of it
Thanks for the great video. I am planning to change the transmission filter on my Altima 2003 but there is a beam blocking the nuts. Do you think by removing the transmission mount I'll be able to jack the transmission up enough to loosen the nuts and drop the pan?
would bad motor mounts cause the car to slightly jerk while on idle? my car slightly jerks forward like every 2 seconds. also when i put it in drive it makes a thud sound like the engine moves or something.
Ok here is what done take it to a shop he charged me 30$ for the mount rear one actually he don't know how is the job but after I come back he said you got great deal from me but actually I have to charge 150 $ cause to change rear you have to unbolt the 3 mounts then change rear then bolt the other mounts I said that's fine job is done and at good price for me :)
great video ! question -i have an 06 nissan alt too-how would you go about taking out the rear m.m. if u had to ? loosen up the support bearing and / or take out the whole CV axle?
Hi, love ur video. planning to change my car engine mount too. unfortunately could not find the company u suggest. would u like to plz found a link or post some info about where u get the mount from? thankyou
so you did not show how you lifted the car off ground?? did you just drive it up on ramps for the front wheels??? this car has very few places to use a floor jack and jack stands... i am just wanting to know best way to set it up to do these mounts without issues.... thanks
i didn't see in any of the other comments did if I missed it, my bad. how did you know that your transmission mounts were going bad was it just a vibration or clunking of some kind when shifting?
A mount that is broken or cracked can cause your engine move and rattle within the engine bay in an out of the ordinary fashion when pressing your brake and revving. Mounts don't have signs that they are going bad, they just crack or break and the engine starts to rattle.
Thanks for the video. Your intro music was loud and scared the hell out of me. Then I couldn't hear what you were saying.Just a heads up, but great video nonetheless.
I notice all motor mount changing videos all show engine needing to be jacked up but how would you jack it up and get under the car being that jacking the engine won't raise the car? Would you have to jack up the car on the side of the mount you are changing and hold it with a jack stand and then jack up the engine a little to relieve pressure of the mounts? Just wanted to ask for some clarification
You can support the engine either on the oil pan or between the engine and trans. Not the place to jack the entire car, but light pressure on those areas will hold the engine safely. Mine wasn't jacked up on the side, just held the engine a bit from the floor.
Jonny The Car Doctor thank you for you're response. Is there any need to raise the car before supporting engine or trans? Or can this be done from flat ground. I would figure doing so with the car itself raised already would only be difficult Bc the front end would be at an angle
vicsamboncs, you can use ramp from walmart or harbor freight to raise the front end of the car. that make life so much easy and then can use couple scissor jacks one under oil pan and one under transmission pan. get the 3 ton scissor jack from harbor freight which has wide top and use 3”x5” block of wood on top. by using scissor jack you can adjust the height easily
I owe 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5l. It's only when I shift to drive and/or accelerate is when the engine jerks front to back. It knocks really loud and the whole car moves but once I get going it's drives fine. I checked my transmission oil and it looks good. Could this be an issue with bad motor mounts? Any help will be much appreciated.
Nice video dude. i have a 2007 Altima 2.5L, it's making a knock sound around the front suspension area. It happens when I drive over small bumps, it's a very low frequency sound. I checked the ball joints and tie rod but they're ok. Any idea what can it be? Thank you.
Rafael Molina it’s easy. 5 bolts (three main bolts like the front mount, and two small bolts holding the bracket). Nothing special to it. It helped to get it out with at least one other mount loosened so the engine will raise about 1.5 inches. Good luck. 14mm, 17mm
yes, with a piece of 2x4 on the oil pan or between where the engine meets the transmission, between the jack and jack location, and It's only used t relieve pressure from the motor mounts.
Brother, what are the motor mounts torque specs. I replaced left and right motor mounts. Torque the right motor mount at 40 ft. lb .. the left one I just tighten them good.
+Ro A After doing this for so long I just torque it by feel, I only use a torque wrench for parts that really need it. For example, when torquing down head bolts.
One bolt is hitting the transmission is there a trick to get it out ??For the rear engine mount ??I've done all 3 now removed 2 bolt but still that one is hitting transmission :(
I don't know how you would remove that bolt. The best you can do is give it some wiggle room by loosening other components. It 's always a pain to remove the rear motor mount.
I've tried about 2 hours under the car only for this bolt it hit the edge of rear transmission thinking later to give it to a workshop just for changing rear and I tool any 2 bolts for the rear small bolts I think it fit it doesn't hit the mount and now i was tackling with hub bolts finally got it out after 2 hours of trying wd40 , break away spray also breaker bar , and electric air gun then success after I hear bad words from my friend asking me to take it to the dealer they'll finish it within an hour he said you may break it with breaker bar hahaha then he left and I said me or the nut or I'll be nut then I got success after trying again spraying , hammering ,using breaker bar and
Ok So I have to do one by one it seem ok for me jacking where the engine meet transmission it's better than oil pan which is scary to me :( Also I want to ask about the rear one I think you have 3 bolt 14 mm and there is 2 screws or bolts 8 mm how to take out those 8mm bolts and what's the procedure to take it off mean only to take out mount and avoid dissassemble of anything else
The mounts are only screwed to the chassis and the engine, so as long as you remove the screws on the rear motor mount, you shouldn't have to worry about disassembling anything that you don't want to disassemble.
There 2 screws are missing ? I've checked just now it seem that shop who I've asked to change before 3 years do you know the size of those screws so I can buy it I'll know the size but length is difficult if I went to a tool shop Hope you know the size :)
I'll or may be if the don't have it after I finish changing all I'll go to junkyard these keep these mounts when removing engine cause mostly it's toasted but bolts will still there I hope But this if the dealer or agent doesn't have it and if both don't I'll go to tool shop with the mount and finding which fit here
Ok friend but can you spot the jackig points for us is it passenger side under oil pan but I think I have to put a wooden block to avoid damaging the oil pan ? But how much to raise?? And what about driver side raise it from where
with a piece of 2x4 on the oil pan or between where the engine meets the transmission. As for the jack, just enough to relieve pressure on the motor mounts.
+The Car Doctor | AB Auto Sales thank you. but ok I can first raise the car and support by jack stand then use piece of wood and use jack to release tension on the engine mounts but no need to do anything just this jack will help in all 3 mounts replacement ? no need to support something else??
I don’t know why your rear cat plate is so easy to remove the one I have is horrible. I have to cut off the plate. That nut isn’t on the side it above right under that bolt below that engine mount. Why is that it’s also a 03 2.5
I just did a customers today , lift engine high as possible , then use pry bar to wiggle engine push bolt towards rear of car while moving engine , it will come out
Right? The others are easy and self explanatory. Everyone comes here for the rear and no one does it. Second video I've seen them conviently say it was"good". You can't tell me a main mount that's just as old and dry rotted is good.
+Pedro Cruz You don't have to, but it's better to replace them all at once. If you only replace one, then the other old motor mounts can't distribute the weight as effectively and transfer it to the new one causing it to break sooner. If that makes sense.
Some good info, but he skips the difficult steps - the transmission side mounting mounting details were totally skipped, the issues of supporting the engine during the change outs was also not addressed. He spent more time showing how to hook up the battery then the removal and installation of the driver side mount. Also, skipped the rear motor mount. Using this video with some others does give a better profile of the challenges of changing out these mounts.
Certainly would like to know how you got the rear bolt of the transmission motor mount out because it is definitely blocked and extremely hard to get access to.
Yeah I notice that in a bunch of videos. People skip the extremely difficult part and you can tell they stop filming or edited it out. No reply so I still have no idea how to get that bolt out
Great help! However, not much of it went as smooth as yours. Transmission bolt under that stupid metal block was a pure absolute bitch to get out. Spent hours on that. The front getting out was easy....back in...PAIN! Those damn lower bolts. Haven't tried the rear yet.
remove your intro and outro, the volume is 54 times louder than the actual video, we can barely hear a word you are saying in the actual video, but your intro and outro is loud af...
