You just saved me money!!! Yours was the first video that explained how corrosion can build up INSIDE the switch. That is significant because the replacement I bought comes snapped together so it never occurred to me to open and clean the corrosion. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! My girlfriends car stopped working yesterday. I knew it wasn’t the battery due to the brake light. Looked at several videos on what could be the problem and yours was the one that let me fix her car for less than $30 in about 15 minutes. Thanks!
You said Armada, so this worked on a Armada? Because that's the vehicle we have as well and it won't start and it's because of some type of brake sensor/ circuit.
My 2018 Armada AWD wasn't starting. No crank... It would cycle between the Off, ACC, ON, and never start. It wasn't the key fob battery. Not the car battery. Checked all the fuses. Brake lights were not turning on when you depress the brake pedal, either.
Thank you so much for this video, you saved me so much frustration. I have had my 2018 Nissan towed 4 times in 3 months, a new battery and alternator and still it wouldn't work. Was ready to sell it or make an expensive yard ornament out of it.
Thanks a million. Took my car to Nissan and they couldn't fix the problem. They changed the Stop Lamp Switch and after two weeks the problem returned. I found your channel and follow the steps and cleaned both the Stop Lamp Switch and the other switch behind (Clutch Relase Switch) that was very dirty. later I also decided to change the Clutch Release Switch which was causing the problem and I no longer have a the problem or any codes. Remember also to clear the codes.
It's worth mentioning, you have to adjust these switches (brake/cruise control) to where the switch is barely pushed in, don't push it all the way down & click it into place, otherwise your abs light will come on & brakes can slowly lock up, also your car (push start) may not start as it's not registering that you're pushing the brake pedal.
Hi Mitchell Gardner, I have a 1996 Nissan Altima, Brake lights staying on. Replaced brake lamp switch, that fixed the problem. Put in new battery, now brake lights back staying on. Had to fix a burnt ground bulb holder on brake light bulb panel box in trunk. But everything was fine till I replaced the battery and then the lights were back staying on. I have to disconnect my positive cable to keep from draining my battery. Cant drive my car with the lights like they are.
Thanks for this video man, i just did this to my 2017 Nissan Altima SR, i was having the same issue for a long time and i couldn’t figure it out what was the problem and the dealer will charge thousands of thousands for just this, I’m glad that I found thhis video, thanks for all this man!!! You gain one sub
The fact that this problem happens to a large number of Nissan vehicles for makes that span over many years indicate that Nissan intentionally allows this problem to exist probably because it's a money maker for them. Imagining charging hundreds or even thousands for replacing a faulty part that cost only tens of dollars. What a rip off!
Thank you! You saved me $55 for the OEM part. And probably $100 labor! And now it's still original Nissan instead of some after-market knock off for $37 that could come with its own set of inferior material, coating, or misalignment issues. I took photos of the disassembly process, which saved me on one step, to make sure it wasn't rotated 90 degrees the wrong way. Loved your bonus info about pushing the end in first before rotating it into place. Worked like a charm. Also, I didn't have to scrape mine with a screwdriver (didn't want to risk scratching the surface, since it was already shiny), but I just wiped off some black gunk on the wiggly gold connectors with a kleenex and glasses cleaner cloth. I have had this issue intermittently over the years since it was only 3 years old. It's now 16 years old. Still love my 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid.
Thank you so much! I was able to clean the switches in my daughter's car and get it running again. Could not have done it without your video and was about to start throwing money at it!
After a visit from AAA, then my car place, then AAA again. It was the second AAA visit that figured this very problem out. This video reinforces, what the AAA fella was telling me that this is common. He simply replaced with a new I thought he called it a brake sensor/fuse, so I will now refer to it as the brake pedal switch sensor fuse, lol! And, my car would not start.I had battery, alternator, and starter tested. All checked out. So then I thought it the batter and that I would call AAA again, when it was in a no start phase. But, this explains why hit or miss on the start. How exhausting and stressful this was. So glad for AAA to have contracts with people who know all this. And for you sir and this video. As it supports what just took place for me. I shall subscribe!
Thank you! I did have to do it twice, my bad as bottom switch has 4 contact points, two points on one side were pitted and the first cleaning did not fix that. I had to take it apart and scrape a little material off of them to flatten it a bit, and bam it worked. Maybe a good tool to use would be a point file... :)
Thanks for the help it did good I didn't know today was two switches on it at cruise control and brake lights anyway I got them out no way you said take him out that was a nice help thank you
So far had to replace mine twice on my 2018 Nissan Altima with the most recent being today. Great video not sure why that part keeps going on but it is pretty annoying when it takes almost 10 minutes of pressing down on the brake to start your car.
@@amberniekgreene7082 Yes under the hood there is relays just look for the one labeled brake switch and if the brake switch by the pedal didn't fix the issue then the one under the hood will.
You can also diagnose by having someone watch your brake lights and breaking. With mine I noticed if I slowly squeezed the breaks I couldn't start and break lights didn't come on, but if I pressed on the breaks quickly, it would. Again it's more how fast you press than how hard, though you do need to press somewhat hard. If I gradually increased power that I pressed, I could end up standing on it with no break lights, but a sudden halfhearted stomp would make everything work. This is useful both to duliagnose and verify the quality of your cleaning/repair job.
Thank You so much for helping me out. Your video and specifically this particular one saved me. May the God in Heaven and Lord of Creation richly bless the works of your hand. Thank you Sir
Thank you very much. The video cleared up two of my questions that I had when reinstalling the switches. My switches became stuck in the depressed after a tow, used a strap to lock the steering wheel down from the steering wheel to the brake pedal and ratchet it in place. Which brings up my question when you got in the car on the video you were able to turn your steering wheel back-and-forth without it locking does the 2015 Nissan Altima have a locking steering wheel function? I need to tow my Nissan, which requires the steering wheel to be locked in place.
This happened to me in my new altima and it started happening within weeks of driving off the lot. they fixed it last year but it's starting to happen again and I wanted to try to fix it myself bc they over pushed it in last time and had to rescue me because my breaks were like permanently engaged and it wouldn't go over 1mph. when they came out i was in the middle of an intersection stuck and he reached under and adjusted it in 1 minute. I wonder why it keeps happening now but the fact that he could quickly adjust it in the middle of an intersection means i could probably try it too

Normal there is a rubber on the brake pedal that push in brake pedal switch to turn it off that rubber will get dry and crystallized and fall apart so check where the brake pedal meet the switch
I have a 2013 Altima and my issue is the break lights stay on sometimes after I've parked and turned the car off. Typically I have to tap the breaks a couple of times to get them to turn off. Will replacing the BLS correct this? Also, sometimes the car acts like it doesn't want to accelerate when driving it. Again, if I release the gas and tap it once or twice it starts accelerating again.
So I have an issue with my car trying to turn over, but not completely. Does t happen every time. Battery is brand new and it’s been to the shop 3 times. They tell me it’s my fault and that I’m not pushing in the break hard enough. Could this also be the switch? I have to give it gas sometimes to turn over fully.
Love this video. Have cleaned mine twice. Would you possibly know how to get the display screen in a 2018 Armada to work. Only works for the reverse camera. The rest of the time it goes dark. Help please
Good day my 2007 nissan skyline powers up ignition on but just won't turn over I'm.not sure if it has anything to do with my key fab the key constantly stays on the dash any advice thank u
Mine starts and when I accelerate it acts like the brake is on so takes a min to get going. its scary on the hill i have to go up if i have to start from a stop. the car gets going regular after @ 15 mph. to normal but going to buy new switches and change them
My Nissan Altima 2016 won't start and I was told it is the brake switch start my brake lights come on but it just won't start so if I do what you said to do it would work
My car won’t turn on when it’s cold out. It acts like it does and it sometimes jumps when it tries but will only turn on fully if I press the Gas a few times and it works fine. Any idea? Or is this the possible solution?
@@Kevo2blessed yes it was a brake switch i had to take it to Nissan to get it fixed because they changed the switch for the newer cars and you can’t find it online
Mine is giving some different issues, the car lock light is flickering when I press the on button.. also one of the fuse boxes started clicking too. There was a point where the was absolutely no power left it for couple hrs. Now the light inside are very dim and continues with the flickering of the lock car

I cleaned the brake switch and it worked fine for a few days. Then it started to do the same thing again so I replace it with a brand new switch. And now it's doing the same thing again can you tell me what the problem is?
