Please show more of the car. Show close up ... Let the camera be your eyes... Was very annoying. Focus on the car, not yourself... Not that there is anything wrong with you.
me too i was going to go with the kona eclectic but saw someone who could not put in two luggage in the trunk so i chose this one and been talking to both Nissan car dealer here in tulsa
I’m based in the UK, but this is the first hands-on review on the Ariya outside the launch videos. I am seriously looking to order the long range AWD version. I have looked at the VW ID4 and the Tesla model Y, but I absolutely hate the large Ipad type displays on both vehicles. The interior of the Ariya (which is where the driver spends all the time, rather than looking at the outside) really hits the spot for me. I love the two similar sized side-by-side displays that look as if there were designed to be there, rather than afterthoughts. Plus, the Ariya has a HUD which is another item on the wish list. It isn’t available in the UK until late 2021, but I have booked a test drive for the first demos to arrive. I will be extremely interested in your reviews when you get to drive a production ready model.
The Ariya was the first EV that really piqued my interest & this was one of my first videos that I saw on the Ariya when this video was originally posted. It was my first time seeing a video with Kyle but I now consider him the most reliable source when it comes to anything EV. Thanks Kyle (& Alyssa)!
@@Smileydudekxy Live in the past, CVTs in general are bad longterm, Nissan doesn't actually standout, especially to current models, you just bought into the anti Nissan hype train pushed by Scotty who works on vehicles that are always 10 years+ old.
Good review! I am in the market for a new car in the next two years and I wanted to hold off on getting a Model Y in favor of competing small suv ev's that have more features and better designs. The Ariya is just what I am looking for. Of course I will wait for a test drive video from many sources before deciding but videos like these are super helpful.
Sharpest suv ev period. Materials seem excellent. Hope a 6'4" male will feel comfortable driving. Haven't hot any inside legroom demensions yet. Hope nissan offers cobalt blue as seen on ariya concept in Tokyo. Hope this beauty will be available this fall or earlier and has a readable price tag on the sl 87 k battery awd.
i always reserve judgment till i see the final release model because while it is nearly finished....that small percentage can change how i like the look of a car as it has in the past
Thanks for the preview, this is a contender for my next vehicle. I’m also looking at the VW ID4 and the Audi Q4 E-Tron. I love the price point on the ID4 , great value and a lot safety features. The dash layout is something that will have to grow on me. The Nissan is checking off a lot boxes in terms of tech, safety, styling both inside and out. Waiting to see what the price points are. Living in the Midwest and having all wheel drive is the way to go. I also do a lot of hi-way driving, so I have not decided on which battery pack is best. Looking forward to seeing more in depth reviews on all 3 vehicles.
We've put about 25k miles on our 2nd gen Leaf and are anxious to spend time with the Ariya. Love the open floor, moveable armrest and backseat legroom is insane! Hoping they 1) figure out how to add a sunroof to an EV, and 2) work out the suspension. The Leaf is horrible for any spirited driving, especially if the road has quick dips or hills - the car's just too heavy for the struts and suspension tuning so it (comically) wallows a lot.
The only negative I see about this so far is the lack of a frunk. I don’t need a frunk to hold a golf bag, but given that SUVs don’t have a separate non-glass locked area like the trunk of a car, a small frunk is really useful for occasionally securing purses, laptops, tablets, etc.
Really good point. Although once in the cabin any frunk can readily be opened. But certainly that’s less opportunistic than a smash and grab! On that point maybe frunks should be separately lockable for added security.
Cameraman needs some training, I could not see the rear features (rear floorspace, rear seat heater switch) because the camera angle was stuck on too high position...😏
Kyle great information about the Ariya .. 👍 thank you .. BTW your camera person needs to learn how to take hints from you, I was hoping to see what you where touching etc.. the inside of the car center console, the rear AC controls etc.. hope you have some B roll you will put out later, Still very good content .. thank you Kyle! More please!
Chademo is the only protocol allowing bidirectional power flow. I bought a used 30KWh LEAF specifically because I can plug a 3kw inverter into the Chademo port to help power things around my house when the grid goes down. For me this is a big drawback of the Ariya. The built in 240v inverter in the Tesla Cybertruck is an important selling point for me.
Great job!! Does the car have a Security camera for recording? Do you know the colors for US released and the car's US release date? Thanks keep up the great work. One last question, how does the weight compare on the AWD dual motor between this car, the VW ID 4 and and the Mach-E?
From the side it looks like this car is jacked-up at least 2” to accommodate the battery underneath to keep the car plugged to 12 V source; if, however, this is the regular stance of the car, not nice. Also, the back of car, the distance between the rear bumper and the back light is a huge empty vertical space (suboptimal).
Hello. I waver between BZ4X and Ariya. 1. Which car feels like an SUV? 2. The shiny plastic at Toyota will be scratched easily and quickly in my opinion. What do you think? 3. Toyota has no natural leather. Right? 4. Reading the characteristics I see that Nissan has a higher mileage at 4x4 and with much more powerful electric motors. How much is Toyota's towing capacity? 5. Does the dashboard at Toyota look cheap? Made with cheap materials? 6. Does the steering wheel at Toyota block the view of the small display? 7. Both brands are Japanese and reliable in my opinion. Nissan has significantly more experience with 100% electric cars. Toyota is a leading leader in the automotive industry and sales. Which of the two would you choose?
I’m a big fan of a solid-feeling and solid-closing door. Had it with a Passat years ago, and it’s one of the things I definitely found lacking on my Model 3. ( in addition to same darn knobs !!!)
Yes keep chadamo v3 as an option, good as it is with ccs there are often issues with the connection losing connections or being damaged easier, often you pull up and find it not working but the chadamo still connects , personally I still would like both connections as an option one each side Audi style that could do 150kw rates
I've watched the whole video to the end I really love this gorgeous car❤️ The beautiful day lights are really brilliant 💎 And the back lights are so nice in spite of other companies which are just following this connected rear lights trend ✅ So excited to this beautiful out in the streets in gorgeous beautiful colors💯❤️
Good thorough review. I'm a Nissan Lifer! I prefer their Sport variants. I'm an old-head and getting kinda stubborn, so I'm not with the whole "E" game yet. I love the appearance of this one, has the Euro Sportback look. Just wish they would offer a petrol variant with the VQ engine or their new 2.0T or 3.0 with at least 250 hp. I've bean shopping a Sportback hot-cross for about two years, and was considering Audi, but of course they're not bringing us the Q3SB. But infiniti of about to bless us with it's new QX55! So I'll wait to see if Nissan will answer my Prayer and do this Ariya with gas power, otherwise come on QX55! Again, good review! 👏 👌
We live in a northern climate area, so all wheel drive is almost essential for safe winter driving. I’d also opt for the larger battery, which will come in handy for longer trips, as well as for winter driving with the heater, defroster, and lights on.
Adam, Note that I said AWD. The safety factor of AWD vs FWD or RWD on icy roads has helped prevent a lot of accidents. I have never had a 4WD vehicle, but my last four vehicles have had AWD, and on curvy, icy roads I’ve noticed a difference.
I would prefer front wheel drive and the larger battery pack if purchasing. If leasing with a plan to give the car back, I would go with the smaller battery and front wheel drive. I don't "need" more range, but I feel like if I planned to own an EV for many years, I would want to get the biggest range I can so that it isn't too outclassed by other newer EVs that are benefiting from better battery technology when it comes time to sell (and which don't have degradation further lowering range). Regarding all wheel drive; I don't see that being particularly desirable for this car. It is not really targeted for max performance or off road use. For winter traction, I would rather put the money toward a good set of snow tires. That will have a much bigger impact on traction and actually help you brake, which is more important than accelerating in poor traction conditions. Also, with better tires, you can switch them out for efficient tires in the summer and benefit from the longer range and lower energy usage.
Nissan must be getting close to the 200,000 mark that triggers the phaseout period for the US federal tax credit. InsideEVs used to have a tracker for that. What’s the latest numbers?
@CyberVeg Thank you for the polite comment. For me, Patrol is old world's car: too big and heavy gas-guzzling monstrosity. GTR, while admittedly nice sports car when it was launched in 2007, carries now a little bit of boy racer image and is not the comfortable family car which I need. Both are also too expensive and more importantly, use fossil fuel. Nissan Leaf was a pioneer in EV market, but boy was it ugly. The current Leaf is somewhat easier on the eyes but still has mostly 10 year old tech (#rapidgate) with super uncomfortable driving position. For me, Nissan has been one of least desirable Japanese car brands, but now Ariya might change that.
Do you know if the base model with have leather interior? Also, I wish the two screens would be incorporated into the front dash in a seamless design similar to Tesla.
The Aria to be marketed here in Japan will have 2 charge ports one on the passenger side and one on the driver's side. One will be Chademo, and the other will be like that shown here. Chademo is far from dead in Japan anyway.
I registered a while back for Nissan Canada To Keep Me In the loop with is vehicle. It looks like a Robot. I love it. So futuristic look and no doubt changes will be made When it goes into production. I would go for the "Small Battery" & Add The "AWD"
Given the impromptu shooting that started 5 min after you got on site, I think the video was pretty good. I’m liking this car too!! I won’t be trading in my Tesla anytime soon though :)
I would love to get the small battery with e4orce. The problem is with the maintaing the car - the closest Nissan dealership and service center (60km away) is quite bad. I have a bad experience with them with my former Leaf and not sure if I want to experience that once again. The second closest is 100 km and that is too far for me.
I have a used 2013 nissan leaf with 48k miles I bought about 5 months ago for $4800. Not a race car. Not an off-road monster. It gets me from A to B. I cant imagine paying 40k starting price for this car. Its nice i agree but when will car makers make cars that are truly affordable? 40k is home down payment.
Awesome first look. I would get the larger battery four wheel drive just because in the smaller battery pack the four-wheel-drive will be the least range of all trims which is not a desirable marketing resale position.
I think I would go for the long range front wheel drive model. I want the extra range and do not necessarily need the all wheel drive. I really like this car a lot. Looking forward to the EPA rating.
Thanks for this initially review. I sure hope it will be possible to stop charging batteries at 80%, as for my Nissan Leaf. No need to stress the batteries on a daily basis, when not requiring full charge. It will significantly prologue battery life.
Or it should be like my OnePlus 8, set a time for use so the car will charge to 80 percent then idle charge until the last hour or two before your scheduled time. That way you save your battery from unneeded stress AND you have 100% charge first thing in the morning
Great review. I like the fact it has some features that the tesla does not have like rear cross traffic braking and wireless android auto which I am looking for in an EV. Love your videos..
Just recently discovered this vehicle. It is very intriguing although less then 2 years ago got a Rouge wonder what incentives they'd have for buying one. I'm assuming this is all electric therefore finding charging stations or charging in general may be an issue. If I were to buy this it would be a daily driven vehicle. It would be racking miles on it so the frequency of charging would be a concern
