Nissan Frontier tailgate won’t lock. Here’s how I fixed mine. 

2nd-gen Nissan Frontier with manual locking tailgate, NOT power locks. My key was just turning freely in the lock and the tailgate would not lock. Mine was super fast & easy to fix, maybe this will work for you.
