Thanks jack, I’d say it’s worth it when you compare what you get with what you would have to pay extra for the equivalent German variant especially being as many of the German equivalents have engaged in some cost cutting manufacturing processes in China while still charging their German prices.

I've had my Qashqai N-Connecta for 4 months now and absolutely love it. My last car was a BMW 5 Series Tourer and the build quality is even better in the Qashqai. I wouldn't bother going to the expense of having the Tekna spec., the N-Connecta has everything you will ever need. The ride in the e-Power is sublime, because the electric motor only drives the car it's very quiet, so much so that you have to whisper to each other when compared to driving a petrol or diesel car, the petrol motor just acts like a generator and charges the battery. In Eco and Standard drive mode it has 150bhp, but when you put it in Sport it goes up to 190bhp, but of course that effects the mpg. I think the safety features also come as standard, there's a blind spot indicator and a few times it has warned me of pedestrians stepping on to the road. It also has front, rear, passenger side and simulated overhead cameras. My daughters also love it as there are four charging points, 2 in the front and 2 in the back, there is loads of space for them in the back, the doors also open an incredible 85 degrees, so it's easy to get in and out, even for my 87 year old mother. The boot size is good, with an extra hidden shelf below the main boot, I've also managed to get a mountain bike and scooter in the boot with the 60/40 split and 1 child in the back as well. The info/entertainment display is huge and very responsive, haven't really used Apple Car Play much as Nissans' own SatNav, etc. is really good. I also love the digital display and you can personalise it to show a variety of different things from energy consumption, to radar guided cruise control, to Sat Nav commands, etc. Now the negative stuff, the petrol motor just acts like a generator and charges the battery, however you can hear the petrol engine and fan kicking in every so often and it's quite loud because you are used to the virtual silence of the electric motor. The ride is relaxing as its so easy to drive, but you can't really chuck it about as the handling isn't great, at the end of the day it's a family car not a sports car/hot hatch. It has regenerative brakes which are a bit jerky and harsh at times, so you need to get used to those. Finally the mpg range of the ePower is nowhere near what they claim. If you drive like a nun in full Eco mode with the regen brakes on and you accelerate very slowly you might get close to 55-60 mpg, but most of the time I get about 40-45mpg (urban), which is still great. I test drove the Peugeot 3008 (weird little steering wheel), Audi Q3 (too small), Citroen C4 and C5, Vauxhall Grandland, Ford Puma and the Nissan Qashqai was easily the best, that's why it's the No.1 best seller.
@ISITWORTHITUK
@ISITWORTHITUK Год назад
Thanks watching and a great comment, really gives us all a better insight into ownership. Have you tried the e-pedal for the regenerative braking- you can customise how harsh or slack you want the brakes to kick in? That sometimes makes a difference as the standard regen is quite harsh.

@@ISITWORTHITUKactually the brakes are not involved in Regen, it's the electric motor that has the braking or pseudo braking. Something in the electric motor.that.bfakes the motor system that returns power into the bty.

Epower Tekna should be everyone's default Qashqai choice. Strong acceleration power; economy wise we're getting 48mpg after 2000 winter miles with regular 20-50 mile trips in Sport and normal mode (eco mode doesn't make any difference apart from less responsiveness). Adaptive lights are responsive and bright. Interior cabin is the equal to current gen Merc A Class we swapped from, albeit the infotainment is more Japanese than German. Heads-up display is great. You won't be without it once you've had it. Get £4k off list (£120 pm roughly) if you go through broker. Quiet drive and engine noise only slightly intrusive under hard acceleration, depending on your expectations. 0-60 closer to 7.1 seconds in real-world testing. Addictive forward and side visibility plus 360-degree cameras, albeit not highest resolution in the world, nor protected from the elements as they get dirty in rain with no wash feature. EV-only mode works under light load for half a mile to a mile, before engine kicks in but quickly charges and drives like an EV. Great family wagon and stronger residuals make very competitive PCP (based on 4 years, rather than 3-3.5 years with Korean brands). Bypass the VW Tiguan et Al, and the Kia Sportage et Al but consider the Kuga plug in St line X in the mix and check out the MG HS plug in rival. Nearest premium rival is a Merc GLA but the Nissan is a better drive, better standard kit as well as kit not available on most GLAs such as the HUD. No sunroof option sadly but the panoramic roof is nice and has electronic cover for strong sunny days.

I've had a Tekna spec since December 2022. For me it is worth the cost, the technology included in the Tekna spec is exceptional, plenty of room inside for a family and the boot is plenty big enough. I've had 5 series BMW and Infinity Q70, Q50 and Q60 in the past, and this car is ahead of all these. I came to the Qashqai from a 2021 Peugeot 2008, and my running costs have halved for similar millage.

I’ve owned an E- Power since beginning of October 2022 & in my opinion it is far better than the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid I’ve owned in the past the CVT box on the RAV4 is painful to put it mildly where as the epower feels quite refined.

HI Jam, Thanks for watching and commenting. We agree the E-power is far more smoother to drive and listen to compared to the CVT. @@ISITWORTHITUK it really does depend on what mode setting you drive in, I tend to set mine to Epedal, eco mode & B mode on gear selector I regularly get over 50mpg but hills & a heavy right foot will get you in the high 30’s at best.

@chs1961 If you forget about the E-pedal from anything above 35mph and use D+Eco, you should easily manage over 62mpg. We've had our Qashqai e-Power for nearly a year and regularly achieve over 62mpg. Using the E-pedal exclusively will increase your fuel consumption.

I test drove exactly the same car as in this review. It drives great. I think the main great rhing about the new epower Quashqai is how SMOOOOOTH it is when it comes to acceleration and braking. Both acceleration and breaking is linear, I mean absolutely linear through entire pedals range. It feels so good. Soundproofing is also not bad. Not class leading but not bad either. And the suspension is, as you rhis review says, spot on - not too loose, not too firm. Driving over speedbumps is probably one of the best I've seen. Interior: excellent bright and vibrant large infortainment screen and responsive interface. The car feels like a car from 2024. Cockpit is smart. There's enough space around you. I loved the tilted panel with window buttons, the speedometer screen and the steering wheel. I miss memory for two drivers (I think its available in Tekna+?), heating for back seats and electric adjustable passenger seat. I also didnt like a central mirror which obstructs view when I first sat inside, but durung test drive I didnt have any problems with that. I also found back seats positioned a bit too low. I wish they were a bit higher. And a boot could've been a bit bigger. But all for all, i think it's ePower that makes this car so fun to drive. If you're thinking if you should go for 1.3 petrol or ePower, I would definitely go for ePower.

We managed 734 miles on a tank. Mixed driving. Regularly get 650 miles to a tank. We're not city dwellers. Our nearest town is 6 miles from our village. Rural roads with occasional town/city driving. Our average mpg is currently 62mpg. Occasional long runs, mixed roads including motorway. It's all about using the correct driving mode for any given situation. E-pedal is exclusively town driving up to around 35mph. Rest of the time predominantly D+Eco. Occasionally, D+Standard rarely D+Sport. B mode when needed on downhill sections when it's advantages. I'm very happy with the car.

@@ISITWORTHITUK Where to start? It looks great, it drives superbly, has the perfect level of comfort, never been any bother and never broken down. The drivers view is spot on and honestly, it’s so easy to drive. Ooh, and the CVT is simply the best box I have EVER driven and I’ve driven more than I can think about as I used to be a senior technician before becoming a teaching technician then diagnosis tech. From there I was promoted to parts manager then headhunted to be service manager and warranty administration manage. So you see, I have had plenty of knowledge and experience to know a great car when I see one. I was also invited to be a vehicle comparison tester, weighing up the pros & cons of various cars. I love my Qashqai. That’s why I have kept it for 15 years LOVE IT Negatives are:- could do with being just a wee bit taller from the seat squab to the roofline, the rear doors could do with opening to 90 degrees and another couple of inches for the rear passengers is needed. Yes, I know the door opening has widened now and finally, another couple of inches length in the boot would be ideal. Apart from that, I don’t know if I mentioned it before but I love this car and don’t want to replace it but I have to😭. And I would like to have a Hybrid, but not a plug in one.

My wife and I are now on our 4th Qashqai, we started in 2007 with a 1.5 diesel visia model we then had the 2013 1.5 diesel 360, the 2016 1.5 diesel Tekna, and now a 2020 1.3 160hp petrol Tekna plus. The worse one we had was the 360, for some reason there was a noticeable power loss even though it was the same 110hp as the visia and Tekna models. In between our current qashqai and our previous Qashqai, we owned a 2020 merc gla amg line. Which we owned it for 8 weeks before trading it in for our current Qashqai, the driving experience and equipment didn't match what we had with the Qashqai, I think once you own one, you'll never want to own another brand, you get a lot of kit for the money, I can't believe how powerful this little 1.3 pushes out, and it does it effortlessly. Unlike most small powertrains it's really quiet and we are getting 42.5-44mpg which is amazing considering we live in Cornwall UK and it's all hills. Definitely will be getting another one when there's more choice and prices settle once the backlog is all caught up and the whole situation that's going on currently stops

Had the Tekna epower sine February and very happy with my purchase. I wanted an SUV that provided MPG like a diesel but was not a diesel (if that makes sense!) and that’s pretty much what this provides. My last car was a diesel Renault Kadjar and this is so much better. I do a mix of driving - motorway and country roads and MPG average is 48. Bearing in mind that it is actually quite a big car I think that MPG is great. The HUD is great and I agree with other comments that once you have driven a car with HUD you will not want to go back. My only quibble is that it does not have a warning light for low windscreen washer fluid which is annoying.

I was going to get it, then decided on the aryia, and I am happy I did. Epower is great it slows the car down when your foot is off the pedal, so you don't need ro break. I have to admit that I really wanted the Ariya but couldn’t justify the extra 10 grand. I got a deal on the price and managed to get the Tekna spec for the same price as the lower spec (which was nice). Love the car and how it drives however I can’t help but be a little disappointed with the MPG. It’s just You can get some modern petrol engine cars that can achieve much better MPG than the E-Power. So I wonder what’s the point. Don’t get me wrong I love the car and all the tec. Its great to drive and it becomes an obsession to try and regen as much as possible. I don’t regret buying it but Im also not kidding myself suggesting Im a eco warrior. It is more efficient than the ford Kuga it replaced but its still burning fossil fuel. If the Ariya was 6 grand cheaper I would have gone for that.

Our view is yes from a hybrid point of view and a technological stand point it’s impressive and more enjoyable to drive and smoother than a standard CVT hybrid. However the MPG is the same If not worse than a good diesel or Petrol car? If anyone is in the market purely for MPG then maybe this doesn’t tick the box and road tax isn’t that much cheaper either. It’s a great stepping stone for a new car with new tech for many who don’t want to go full electric as these cars are way more expensive and with more limitations. I have a spinal injury and I test drove this just the other day and found it to be very comfortable and smooth. Tech wise the Tekna is well equipped missing out on things like memory seat and auto dip passenger mirror when reversing which I think should be a standard fit these days, well it’s definitely more use than lane departure warning. Would it not be better to get a plug in hybrid that way if the engine does not work you can plug in and charge. If there is no electricity you can use the engine. You get the best of both worlds.
@ISITWORTHITUK

Great question- In theory I see what you’re saying but it happens so quick it doesn’t make a fair comparison as the engine is used solely as the generator so hardly stops it’s always working in the background at lower revs but when you accelerate it kicks in more prominent to give more power to the motors. So the engine doesn’t really stop in theory it’s just used less or more when needed.

Hi Steve thanks for watching and commenting. We were generally impressed with the epower, it’s the fastest Qashqai to-date, the tech onboard and interior is great except from not having android auto as standard. The ride was smooth and enjoyable and It’s definitely a great option if you don’t want to go full electric. The mpg isn’t that ground breaking and for this there is an increased cost that some may not feel is worth it. We can’t say for certain but there maybe a possible increase in the future , this depends on how the car is taxed ie through a company and wether the government budget increases each year. If it does increase it’s probably marginal as the co2 is lower than standard ICE.

Hi thanks for watching and great question. If it’s easy to swap and won’t end up with fees or costing a lot we would agree with swapping for the smoother ride and bigger touchscreen. However that’s about where the advantages end as mpg is pretty much the same and we couldn’t justify the swap on this alone. Hope this helps 👍

@thebestcousineverchanel7105 The 1.3 Qashqai hybrid has the CVT gearbox. If you think that's smooth, you should try the e-power. Yes I would say if you are in a position to upgrade it would be worth it. Reports of poor mpg on the e-power are down to the drivers. I regularly get over 62mpg. Effective use of the available drive modes reward intelligent driving. Only use the E-pedal up to about 35mph. The most economic mode to use is D+Eco. Your right foot plays a big part in your fuel consumption. I'm not a speed demon but I'm not a Sunday driver either.
@DJKav
@DJKav Год назад
You could argue that the Qashqai ePower is an EV. It's driven by a pure electric power train, with no mechanical linkage to the engine. The engine only serves as a generator for electrical energy. The only difference between an EV and ePower is that the EV fills it's battery from the power grid, via a socket. How that power is generated is irrelevant, as it could be fossil fuel or renewable. The ePower generates it's electric on board via a portable petrol generator. Otherwise, they are both driven by electric motors and nothing else.

@@youbencowell But it's not a hybrid either. The ePower drive train is just 2 electrical motors, and nothing else. The same as an EV. A hybrid has both an electrical and a mechanical power train. The other uses the national grid, which still needs to generate electricity.

The title of this video is "Is it worth it?" How can we tell that if you don't tell us the price? I drive a petrol Qashqai now and am very happy with it. I want to renew but I don't believe there is the infrastructure in place at the moment to give me stress-free driving. They are already talking about power-cuts this winter and if everybody switched to an electric car tomorrow there would not be enough electricity to power our homes and businesses. I think that if you had a hybrid you are doubling the weight, and therefore the mpg, because you are carrying around two engines. However, this does look different. Of course lithium batteries are made by sprinkling on fairy-dust and not mined by abused children in the Congo and of course not a fossil fuel at all. Yeah right! I know that manufacturers are going to be fined £15,000 for every pure petrol car they supply. No wonder there are no adverts on television for petrol driven cars. Are Nissan still making petrol cars?

Hey Ian thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the feedback also as the channel started as a way to gage every viewers take on each car and discuss the likes and dislikes or what they think is or isn’t worth it. I wanted to educate and entertain viewers so they didn’t focus solely on the price. After everything you mentioned with wanting to change, I think the Qashqai e-power would not be worth opting for solely for MPG. We’ve just reviewed the new Nissan Juke hybrid which will be on the channel soon. So stay tuned to see what your thoughts are on that one as you can drive it up to 80% in electric. @pillred5974 Think of the B setting as a milder version of the E-pedal. The E-pedal and B mode are best suited to driving in town, anything up to around 30mph. B mode is also suitable for use on a steep downhill section. Always keep in mind the overall speed. Braking also provides regeneration. The harder you apply the brakes, the greater the regeneration. I often go from D + Eco to D + Standard on long downhill sections of road to gain regeneration without losing excessive speed. Really, it is a personal choice. Experiment with the options to find what works for you. 60 mpg is easily achieved.
