2:59 Shumi just wanting a good reasonable pickup truck to carry his motorcycles to the track is just cool to watch He was so hoping Nissan would get the pickup truck so that he would just buy it
I guess had they known the launch price was Rs 49.92 Lakhs 'only', this MotorInc First would have been 10 minutes tops! Nissan got almost 30 minutes of conversation on EX TRAIL from Shumi and Karthik by not disclosing the price earlier! I guess that's a win for Nissan! Spoiler Alert: Rest 12 minutes were just Magnite and Tharro 😂
I am always convinced that Shumi doesn't listen because he always looks like he is thinking of clever quips but his quick-summary is always spot on so.....
@@setuniket You are still asking why? It's obvious right, It's terrible for the price and even Nissan knows it, but they wanna test waters with 150 units. I'm sure it will still find some dumb buyers.
@@KiranKadambari I don't think Nissan is testing the waters. They had 150 units of their unsold inventory from the UK or Japanese market which they wanted to dump it on us. Already facelifted model launched in North American markets. This is just a meaningless exercise by Nissan India to add one more product to their portfolio. Considering its price all 150 units will be used as display in showrooms and eventually will be bought by Nissan senior management. Even die hard Nissan fanboys (assuming if any) wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
I have a Nissan terrano 1.5, 110, What a beautiful car, runs like a train on cocaine, absolutely reliable, use it as a daily 60kms, Almost 1L kms now. Some people may call it a duster but it has its own uniqueness, and so so fast. Stage 1 chip tune. Absolutely great service too. Pune.
I have Magnite , people seriously underestimate Nissan for their service and products. Hands down the best vehicles and prompt service from Pune service station.
Yes, global manufacturers take us Indians for granted. We recently bought a VW Tiguan. When the vehicle was driven before the India specific software was installed, the blind spot indicators on the ORVMs were working. Once the software was uploaded, the blind spot warning stopped working. Now the dealer says that the Tiguan does not have the blind spot warning system. Just imagine a global manufacturer wilfully disabling a safety feature and saying it does not exist.
I first misread it as Taigun and was shocked. Then I realized its Tiguan and they did that to a 40+L car, I was speechless. Well actually the price doesnt matter... what they have done is beyond ridiculous. And what you say is true. Foreign brands, (including Japanese) looking down on the Indian market is a real thing and its high time we strictly stuck to Indian brands like Mahindra, TVS, Bajaj etc, just like how japanese and korean people strictly buy cars of their homegrown brands only.
I think its called breaking the fourth wall only when the 'actors' on stage or screen separate themselves from the audience through their performance, pretending to be unaware of the camera or the crowd, and then 'break' it by turning to the audience/camera. Here they aren't actors, and aren't unaware of the camera. In fact they're directly talking to us. So technically, there's no wall being broken.
Nissan made a breakthrough with the Magnite and now they will break through with the Xtrail. Exactly opposite approaches. The ICE reminds me of the Safari's first unit.
Regarding the hybrid, apparently the battery faces issues given extreme ambient conditions. That being the major reason Nissan didn’t bring it to India- because our conditions vary a lot and can be very extreme.
@Kulinah if that's the case they wouldn't have gone for base model . Atleast they could have gone for out and out top spec model. Nissan has been doing blunders after blunders in india. No surprise why they launched xtrail only with 150 units and that too through cbu.
let me talk about Nissan. I was hellbent in getting the nissan kicks 1.3l turbo, it looked awful, had no features, felt like the word premium left the chat. Yet i wanted the car for the engine, for the sheer joy of driving. 4 months of having being run around by all of the service dealers in Bangalore, i saw a report of 0 kicks being sold over the last 4 months. My wife was the happiest. She was ready to leave me if i had got the kicks. Yes i was that hell bent on that car. Listened to my wife instead, got a Slavia. 2 years later having driven all over the country, i saw just 1 kicks, that too the 1l one. Guess Nissan really dont know what they are doing apart from just being happy with Magnite. (Good car no doubt). This X-trail is nothing but a mockery of themselves.
What I understand from other publishings or motor channels , this is a variant which was not popular / did not sell well in the UK market due to emission taxation laws and is been (150 units ) shoved /dumped down India’s throat as an aspirational product . Not sure how authentic is the information. If yes then I am appalled by the audacity of these manufacturers.
Not sure if you guys had already thought about this, but you should have this podcast in front of live audience. Your podcasts are funny, full of wisdom and honest.
Haha the last 5 mins when conversation shifted to Magnite, I completely forgot that I came in here for X-trail, that's how uninteresting the car sounds. :P
True..its Japanese what Toyota and Nissan are doing in the Indian market. They are just relying on their Japanese-born engineering*, instead of bringing their global products in the market, especially Nissan. They literally have now 2 models to sell in India. In Nepal, though being a far smaller market Nissan launched the X-Trail e-power with 144hp 1.5ltr petrol engine powering a 210hp motor(4WD) last December @1.8CR and also, we have many more choices from Nissan and Toyota... the Navara, Patrol, Leaf to RAV 4, their hybrids, Corolla, Yaris, Rush, etc
1:25 I would sell all my possessions and buy a GTR if they ever sold it at that price, but I don't know what I'll do after I buy it there's a big speed breaker at the entrance of my neighborhood
Here’s a car no one bought a mild hybrid version of in uk so they are selling it here in twice the price ..calling it a cbu…and then the company is wondering why they aren’t doing well in India
after listening to this, I want to add some historical context to why Nissan’s reliability is always in question. Shumi referred to this in the ThisConnect episode about Japan but let me bring it here. Mid 80’s-early 90’s is when Japan had a major economic AND cultural boom. This was also when the JDM as we know it brought about the cars we fawn after. After this period, Japan brought out economic policies that basically popped the bubble they existed in, causing downturn of investment. They literally didn’t have the ability to make the “world-beater-in-tech” cars because the money dried up. Nissan, in comparison to Toyota, for example, didn’t have the money to sustain their “high quality ancillary parts” ecosystem. For a long time in the 90’s, their cars barely had any change. Then in the late 90’s, their financials showed red. Meaning that if they continued doing what they did, they would cease to exist. So, in came the Renault deal. And Carlos Ghosn. If it wasn’t for his cost cutting measures and sub-contracting parts deals to external OEM’s at a lower rate than what Nissan used to do, Nissan would have expired way back. But this deal and Carlos’ price cutters resulted in many an issue. The prime issue was CVT problems and engines going wrong. They had to deal with class action lawsuits for the same. And most of the cars ended up as fleet vehicles in US and EU. So, they were designated to the “bargain bin” section immediately. There is an “episode-series” by Donut Media about why Nissan sucks and I think it’s a necessary watch to understand why Nissan is operating the way they are.
Nissan also has the Patrol, which is globally appreciated, super popular in the gulf, and actually came in the news some time back because a popular actor bought it.
If only 150 units, why not do CKD instead of CBU. Would the build be that much more expensive or could that be considered a test bench for production? Or even an SKD?
I may be wrong, but I don't think this is uploaded on the RSS podcast feed. My podcast app (pocket casts) wasn't able to show this episode. Has anyone faced the same issue?
Do you guys remember the Nissan Micra? We got the diesel in 2013 and I've learned to drive in that car and love it. I hope Nissan finds success in India. Any competition is good competition.
The part where Shumi mentioned about tossing out the children via the panoramic sunroof was way more exhilarating than the Nissan Xtrail 😂 by the way the summary was a 10 on 10 and so was the first impressions, spot on as always.
Although I am not impressed with the Xtrail's pricing, there are still not many options in that price range with a petrol engine. Tucson, Kushaq and Tiguan. The later two are still sold in their previous generation versions. I wish we had Mazda CX5, Mitsubishi Outlander or CRV in India.
In case of CKD, does a company start assembling the car only after it receives a purchase order? Or the car is assembled anyways and stored away, shipped out once the a dealer submits a purchase order?
CBU cars is daydreaming, The Govt. Charges 100% tax (24lakh price+24 lakh import tax= 48 lakh ex showroom) and then extra taxes which goes uptill 52lakh on road. But think once if we can get this car in 25-26 lakh on road without import taxes. An ultimate smart new breed of engine.
I bought the Nissan Magnite Last year top spec and I absolutely love it. Yeah for sure 5 years later I will have to install an after market infotainment screen. I hope with the facelift they make it even better.
Really want to know the insight of the person's thought process who decided to bring X-Trail to India with this config and these many numbers. 99% logical people will not buy it thinking how will nissan support 150 owners with parts and service, whoever buys one needs to be prepared for keeping the car in the service station for number of days during parts change or physical damage. It seems somebody in higher management of nissan just saw the movie Welcome and got impressed by the dialogue of Feroz Khan "abhi hun zinda hai". Then Bam!! We have the X-trail. Kartikeya's expression during Thar Roxx should be captured and used during the promotion the sales will surely double.
Talking about the ride and handling, instead of giving a binary adjective its good/bad, it will be better if you mention any benchmark car. Of course separate benchmarks for ride, handling and balance of ride & handling. Cheers.
Hey DB! This was a strange kind of conversation where the idea, the lack of the power in it, overshadowed the car. We get what you want. Thanks for letting us know. 🙏🏾
@@motorinc totally agreed. The pricing is very off. This should have been near 20lakh car for even it to be justified. But 40 lakh😂😂😂 It'll be a collector item.
Excellent Discussion! Probably Nissan guys can’t read Kodiaq Brochure as it’s in English 😀😀. We can expect Toyota Hillix like massive discount to clear the stock!!
Hello guys, great work as usual. Would love to see a podcast on car/bike etiquettes for both passengers and drivers . Passengers and even drivers can get annoying sometimes and create a distraction putting everyone at risk. Would love to hear your take on this.
@39:40 Shumi knows when they talk companies listen. Citroen listened to their C3aircross conversation and brought some more basic stuff to the upcoming basalt. Nissan should listen to this conversation around the Magnite
This is japan's problem of their perception of India's automotive market, if not of India itself. Not only have they brought a below par car and overpriced it but blamed it on us saying this is the kinda of car we as a market want, which is definitely not true. And the last time we had a good japanese bike was R15 v1 and that for the cars was city gen 1 and 2. High time we moved on from japanese manufacturers, just like they do there.
I have been working in Malaysia for a while now. Just to give everyone a perspective what Karthik mentioned, the Nissan gives different model options and all are global standards. It is considered one of the top tier brand. Nissan is missing greater opportunities by not launching different products or localising the production. They should have courage in delivering better value products. Awesome content asusual.
With the registration cost of trail in Bangalore one could buy an i10 with that . 9 lakhs for registration. We could get the lowest variant of the magnite itself 😅
2 questions - so when you buy a hybrid car the company doesnt give you a warranty on that battery used in the car for making it hybrid? - like now Tata is launching diesel cars and also other other companies too so like does this give assurance that deisel will be there for atleash another 10 years (for the span of life of car) and what if the government bans diesel in that time who will be responsible.
06:46 thank you so much for highlighting this points. Almost all the RU-vidrs were going gaga over this car and ignored the Price and the Engine completely. 3-Cylinder engine car at 45L 😂😂😭
At least if they would have priced it correctly, 25-30 lacs or something ex-showroom, I mean it would definitely have an advantage over its competitors, just like the magnite
Still remember the days when i was a sales exe selling CKD n CBU with a nissan dealer.. and that 1st gen X trail was a tough product.. it had a 6 cd changer and 4wd and that massive sunroof 😂.. but pricing was exorbitant in those days too.. going up against the Pajero, Fortuner, Outlander, CRV, even X1.. 😢😢
@@motorinc well to be honest, Nissan was my second dealership.. X trail and Teana were the only 2 models of CKD n CBU available those days.. the engine was definitely smoother compared to Fortuner.. but never matched the old gen Pajero.. and it was a 5 seater with huge boot space to play with... Also the price tag of almost 20L on road (kolkata) never helped.. biggest selling point was the massive sunroof which would make the car look more roomier in daylight.. Some embassies in kol did have older gen Xtrails too.. they wanted to exchange their old one with a new one i remember.. but the deal didn't go through due to some documentation issues.. 😕 I remember specifically one deal where the client had called for almost all the SUV available those days, that lineup in his parking space was a sight to behold.. Fortuner, Outlander, CRV, Pajero, X1, Endeavour.... I think if i look through my old mail box i might even find a old brochure of Xtrail and Teana 😆😆 It deeply saddened me to know that Nissan having only magnite to sell nowadays.. we had shortest turning radius Micra, ultra long Sunny, newly launched Box Evalia, Supremely rear seat of Teana, Xtrail and even had the 370Z.. 😎
What an awesome looking vehicle - Me in 2010. The X trail seriously trails in the front design department. Its almost good and Im all in for the retro aspect but this has got a serious dated appeal ! And i’m not even talking about the engine or the features. Cars like this make my i20 look so much more vfm 😂
The way Karthik is explaining the X-trail. It feels like he is telling me the horror atmosphere near the haunted house and preparing our mind to expect the unexpected when entering the haunted house.
Why I am the one feeling like this launch is to get Magnite sell more?, people’s one of the negative point on Magnite is like ‘this company has only one car, it can close their company in India anytime’, just to prove Nissan is not going out from India, maybe this launch?
Would have loved to see Shumi's reaction once he gets to know the ex showroom price as 50 Lacs. In my state that would be around 63 Lacs including all taxes and insurance.
I was also hyped for this xtrail and was watching japnese and other country version. I was totally excited to expect the e4orce tech and was very keen on hoping into it and letting my opinion of EV out of my mind forever. And what you get in India, ICE that drives the wheels. I dont feel a need to watch this review as it has totally disappointed me. But for the first few minutes into the video and the opinions of Shumi has made me watch it for fun. 😅
It doesn’t seem that automobile manufacturers have understood the Indian market going by the recent trend. Nissan needs to do it right to not fail this time. Magnite as you said is a good option in that segment but will need companions in this journey as it alone cannot make Nissan successful and from what I heard, the Ex-Trail is not the aspirational car that you would’ve expected Nissan to bring. I hope this changes. Ona side note, when would the first impressions episode of the Bassalt be coming out? Eagerly waiting for that considering Karthik had great things to say about the drivability of the C3 aircross but had mentioned concerns, few of which Citroen has addressed.
Hi BV! Yes, we agree that Nissan has a lot they need to rethink with their product strategy for India. Regarding the Bassalt, we definitely will be doing one but all we can say right now is stay tuned!😅
@@motorinc Yahi karo aap log… New platform for listening to the content, stay tuned… Review, stay tuned… How long do we wait? The nation wants to know! 😂😂😂
Saw a brand new Nissan X trail in Mysore, Karnataka today, and I had the same question, why did you get that Mysuru, Karnataka today, and I had the same question, 'what could have made him to get that instead of any other car in the world'? Maybe he was a previous Nissan X-trail. owner or something, i wonder. It looked ok though, not bad.
We don't have the bandwidth to manage so many platforms. RSS feeds will probably not be updated either. We are working on an alternative solution though - please do stay tuned.
This is more confusing Motorinc first than C3 Aircross. That car was atleast priced well and have new features lately and it drove really well. What is this ex-trail thingy anyway? Couldn't agree more with you guys.
25:00 they want to sell those 150 units in the next 6 months and after they launch the magnite facelift they'll try their best to shift focus of the people from this to magnite.. in that case the new magnite must become best car of the segment in most areas
