GrumpyOldMan (my husband) had this surgery (11-14-23). On 11-28-23 we made two trips to the ER by ambulance. But, about a week after surgery he had a stomach virus with severe diarrhea. He was released from the hospital today (12-1-23). He was having severe pain and nausea (the reason for the ER visits). We tried everything including every medication we had, and I even made rice water with ginger. The rice water is for diarrhea (years ago used for babies with diarrhea), and the ginger for stomach issues. His pain persisted. So, we got home today, and so far, so good (thank you, Lord). He's eating (soft foods). He's lost 25 pounds in 2 weeks (the last weight we had). So far, the stomach virus seems to be the culprit. We're praying things continue to improve.

I just got the Nissen Fundoplication witha toupet(partial wrap). Im currently in the hospital waiting to be sent home. Points to consider for this surgery are: 1) It will not eliminate all regurgitation symptoms. The full wrap might do it however it can cause Dysphasia (trouble swallowing) 2) The Linx procedure is where surgeons place a metalic bracelet at the LES valve to prevent regurgitation however you have to take a metallurgic exam in order to ensure your body’s chemistry once a metal is introduced.

I'm considering having this surgery now that I have Barrett's Esophagus. Nexium isn't cutting it anymore. Regarding your related heart rate issues, sounds like your vagus nerve might be affected which will cause variations in heart rate. Hope the LINX surgery works for you and you get some relief!
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 4 года назад
Precise Practice Management yeah I really believe that my vagus nerve was altered With from the surgeries. All that trauma has been so much for my body. So that’s why I’m taking it slow now. I'm waiting on my endoscopy results they found a small hiatal hernia and a schatzki ring but a small one also the possibility of Barrett's but my issues I had h-pylori in about 6 months ago I felt a pulsating feeling in my stomach which radiated to my heart I did an EKG and they found tons of PVCs and I noticed it when I eat certain foods I'm thinking it's from the food going down my esophagus and stimulating my vagus nerve it's pushing up against a hernia causing it to do so if I bend over I get pressure in my chest my heart races when I eat if I move in certain directions or if I stretch. And strangest of all it's screwed up my nervous system anything that brings on an emotion or excitement causes heart racing and PVCs even being aroused it's ruining my life for the last 6 months.

@CarlosGranados1 3 года назад
@@2dblefistn265 thank you for being vulnerable and expressing yourself. It’s really comforting to hear someone that has similar issues as me. Same thing happens to me when I get excited. My body turns excitement into fear and causes my heart to start racing. When I get nervous is worse than it normally would as well. Everything keeps pointing to my vagus nerve. The question is, how do we even fix it?!
@2dblefistn265
@2dblefistn265 3 года назад
@@CarlosGranados1 all about finding the root cause, in your case has this changed after the surgery? At this point you may have been suffering with your issue for quite some time to the point it may now be psychological. This type of prolonged trauma is bound to leave you with some residual symptoms. Worrying and stressing less is important for healing the vagus nerve. Also vagus nerve issues may also cause hormonal imbalances so it may be necessary to see an endocrinologist. I hope you're now doing better.

Carlos Granados ya I was diagnosed with 1 cm sliding hiatal hernia . They saw it on the endoscopy. I had barium swallow study and they didn’t see it . Anyway , I think I msg you last time about pain I was having on the right side . I told you I didn’t have liver or gallbladder issues. Well, I had the HIDA scan and they found I had 31 percent ejection fraction and they took out my gallbladder. So I’m 6 days post op and the excessive burping went away . I am experiencing mild reflux now . No esophageal spasms anymore . So the reflux feels like for ex if you drink soda and you feel the gurgling sensation in the throat . That’s mild for me . I quit taking the Pepcid 5 days ago. I think I’m going through withdrawal. I took the pills for a year. I’m hoping the gurgling sensation goes away. I don’t feel any burning sensation in my throat. It just feels like I’m drinking soda it has mild gurgling sensation

I just had the surgery. I am shocked to hear you say that your doctor cleared you to resume all activity (swimming, weight lifting etc.). I was told to wait two weeks before lifting anything more than 10 lbs. I was also put on a strict liquid diet for two weeks. No meat and no bread for three weeks. I read that one of the dangers from this surgery is nerve damage. I too had the shoulder and back pain caused from the C02 they put into your stomach to expand it so they can reach your organs. Diet is everything so maybe start there. Before the surgery I did a Whole30 diet that reduced my symptoms by about 60 %. I thought about not having the surgery but as you mentioned, cancer is a real possibility if your throat is exposed to the gases from your stomach. Best of luck to you!! I will be following your progress.

Hey man. I have almost identical symptoms like you. The acid thing is annoying, it keeps going up even when I don’t eat, or, when I sit straight. But the most horrible things are the “heart attacks”, and asthma like shortness of breath. The knife pains, that get stronger when I breath, I was told it’s not actually the heart, yet those knife feelings occur just where the heart is. And the second worse thing, a bit later this breathing thing started happening to me (just a couple months ago), where I can’t take a full breath, I mean, I can, but I feel like it’s not finished, and I keep trying to breath in through my mouth fully, but I am not able to. I feel the left side of the chest when I can’t breath. Usually after sleeping it’s gone, but often after waking, after eating, or even if I don't eat, it reappears and lasts for few hours or even a whole day. For every week this breathing thing happens at least 3-4 times. The "heart attacks" kinda went away when I started drinking the acid meds that the Doc prescribed, but I still feel the left side of the chest whenever it’s hard to breathe. The shortness of breath is not painful, but it’s so uncomfortable, frustratingly and makes you feel miserable. Also, my heart according to Docs is fine, but they can’t explain the breathing thing. I read that it happens with GERD, so I’m really thinking to do Nissen surgery and praying that not only the acid, but also the breathing (shortness of breath/asthma like symptoms) thing would go away. I'm so happy when I have a day/days without feeling/having that breathing thing/struggle to breathe in. Just a year ago my health life was okay... Keep hope alive though!
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 4 года назад
Wow, I feel your pain! Just in case you should also try to get checked with a pulmonologist to make sure everything with the lungs is fine. I'm going to do that myself soon! And yeah GERD can cause so many different things on people and it all varies... in our cases is the worst because we feel like other major organs and not working right but it's all just the effect from the GERD symptoms. Keep doing your research to make sure you have a surgery that will take care of all your issues!

It isn’t uncommon to feel like you can’t breath deeply enough, have coughing, feel short of breath, even chest pain from the regurgitation of gastric contents high into the esophagus which then enters the bronchial tubes and possibly the lungs. Moka, here is a hack I use to alleviate symptoms. First, I take enzymes with Pepsin in them. Second, get a vial of cayenne pepper from a vitamin shop. Make sure you get the liquid and not the pills. That sounds like it would hurt, right? Hot pepper? No, it doesn't, at least not for me, but try just a few drops in water at first and chase it with a 4 oz glass of water. You want it to get down as fast as possible. The pain we feel is being caused by blood restriction in the stomach. Cayenne dialates the blood vessels and stimulates blood flow in the stomach, and I feel better pretty quick. Take it after eating some food. It may not work for you, but hopefully it does.

I've gained weight because I can't eat right, can't swallow, can't burb or throw up...I'm so miserable everday of my life...I have to take pain meds every day to help me deal with this and EVERY SINGLE DAY I feel like I'm going to have a nervous breakdown. I'm miserable...I wish to God I'd never had the surgery and just ended up with Barrettes esophagus and died. I'm 50 years old and there's things a lot worse than dying. Also, my heart races ALL the time and nothing the doctor gives me is helping me. God I'm miserable and the bloating NEVER goes away. I can't eat very much but I look like I eat 4,000 calories a day and BTW, I have TERRIBLE acid reflux! The surgery didn't help me plus my vocal chords are all messed up from acid reflux and I'm unable to speak very clearly. Have you considered taking down the Nissen Fundoplication?? I had really similar issues like you did by the end of the nissen and I did not want to live anymore. Living that way isn't living so I completely understand you. In my opinion you should really try to find a doctor with lots of experience to guide you in a new direction. Like I stated I was suffering from the same issues and I had the nissen fundoplication takedown with the linx implant. Although not all my issues are cured. A lot of my bloating issues got better, The heart-racing got better, and my quality of life got better. although it took me about a year after the surgery to even feel better. Plus I did a lot of things on the side to better my health. The doctors have told me and many people on here have also told me that the vagus nerve could have been damaged or tempered with, thus the heart issues get worse. Don't give up and keep fighting. @@CarlosGranados1 THANK YOU for responding to me!! So, the reason I gained weight was because all I found that I can eat are cream corn, cookies, milk and sweet tea....those things are high in calories. I don't drink soda and haven't in over ten years because of the carbonation and inability to burb. I can't sit down to a meal and just eat, like a normal person does and I find myself nibbling throughout the day and it's always on cookies and drinking 2% milk because they don't make my stomach hurt or bloat. I couldn't stand milk prior to the surgery but started drinking it afterwards and it's full of calories. My surgeon told me I would gain weight after the surgery and I thought, no way, I've always been the same size but I gained 50 pounds, thankfully it has plateaued out. Along with my stomach/esophageal problems, I've also had four neck surgeries. I had a broken neck, with several ruptured disc and broken vertebrae's and I developed Mersa and sepsis...I can't believe this is my freaking life! I used to have fun, play tennis, exercise but I've gotten to where, maybe I should just give up. It's too much for one person to deal with! On the Vagus nerve, you really might be in to something there. Over the years, I have wondered if the Vagus nerve had something to do with my stomach and esophageal problems and would love to know, what kind of doctor do I go to for that and lastly, what type of surgeon undone your Nisen Fundiplication and preformed the other surgery in it's place? I appreciate all your help so very much!! 💛 I wanted to add this, I have thought it possible that during one of my neck surgeries, the Vagus nerve was injured in some capacity....the first two neck surgeries where through the front of my throat and the last two was through the back of my neck. I have rods on both sides of my spine with plates, screws and cadaver bone...my neck limits my ability to do very much. But maybe the Vagus nerve was injured during the Nisen Fundiplication...it was a General surgeon that did the Fundiplication. And yes, I know I need to get off the cookies and milk.

(this was about a week ago now.) i am starting to consider fundoplication as both H2 blockers and PPI's do not provide relief for my disease. i have tried to change my diet and be more active but it just never changes. my mother constantly tells me i do not have GERD, though it is quite obvious i do. i have a pretty raspy voice, that i have to hide in public due to anxiety. i am also worried about my quality of life after recieving funcoplication, but i feel like its the only thing i have left. i really wanna set an appointment with my family medicine doctor but im scared she will just pass me off as well. I'm approaching my 6th week post surgery. Thankfully I have no more reflux. I suffered almost 40 years with it. The medications were causing bad side effects and were not working on the reflux, regurgitation, and many more symptoms. As time went on,, I had more and more issues. The PPIs were messing me up in that I could not digest my food anymore and my body could not absorb nutrients from the food anymore. The PPIs also caused me to have polyps in my stomach. So I did the surgery. Enough is enough, the PPIs will eventually kill you one way or another. So I did the surgery. Now I don't know how much damage these PPIs have done to my body. PPIs are not supposed to be taken more than 6 months, and I was on so many different ones over the 40 years. Try taking Simethicone for the gas and a good quality pro-biotic that includes a pro-biotic. My surgeon told me to try those two things and they have relieved the gas. The pre-biotic is healthy for you and is taken once per day. The Simethicone is after each meal. Also, FYI there is new technology now to make sure the wraps are adjusted perfectly, not to loose not to tight. My surgeon used that new technology. Don't recommend the Linx, it has been recalled, and it causes a lot of problems, like everything you eat tastes like metal and you can't ever get an MRI + you have to let the airport security know you have it and you can't go through the xray, you have to be patted down. I hope you will be well and your symptoms improve.
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 9 месяцев назад
Wow over 40 years?? That’s is amazing to me. I’m sorry that those side effects got to you. Where do you buy the simethicone? Amazon? I already had the linx. Had it for 3 years already and it saved me from my Nissen. But it still didn’t cure my regurgitation issues and my acid.
@liljerseygirl249
@liljerseygirl249 9 месяцев назад
@@CarlosGranados1 , Amazon has Simethicone, so does your local pharmacy, it's over the counter. I bought some on Amazon, it doesn't cost much at all. You don't need a prescription for pro-biotics/pre-biotics either.

I had my Nissen fundoplication October 16. Acid reflux has completely gone. However It now seems that the symptoms have been switched and now I get constant bloating, pain, like a real distension on my stomach, and bad stomach ache, needing to go to the toilet constantly not being able to have a full bowl movement. I’m hoping that a take down will reverse these side effects as I’d much rather go back to the way I was before and just try and sort my diet out and use PPIs as and when I need them, my life is so much worse off now. I’m just hoping that a take down of the surgery will take me back to the way I was before. Did you have similar issues? And if you did, were they resolved after the take down? Regards, Chaz.
@briancruz1665
@briancruz1665 4 года назад
I think the wrong this in their surgery is the fundoplication. Why don't they just close the hiatus and not wrapping the stomach around the esophagus if it's just the hernia that's causes acid reflux
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 4 года назад
Well apparently in the past that is how they used to do it, just close the hiatal hernia but they saw a higher success rate in cases when they started doing the fundoplication so I am guessing they stuck with that. I do agree with you though, the anatomy of the body is affected so much when you wrap the Nissen of your stomach is wrapped around your esophagus that is bound to change something.

Hey thanks for sharing. I am going through bad reflux, sudden heart palpitations and panic attacks, chest pains, trouble swallowing etc etc. I have been considering the surgery but have seen a few reports of people getting the symptoms back after surgery. I don't see the point if the surgery doesn't work. Im going to try a chiropractor and have started watching Pam Fox videos (she's a lady who reversed her hernia naturally using exercises). I tried one of her exercises and it seems to help a lot. She seems to know what she is talking about.

You need to eat a better diet. It isnt rocket science. Eat a acid reflux friendly diet and get probiotics. Buy some . Try fermented foods or kefir .diet is the key ny friend. I know its scary . Diet isnt fun but once you heal and it takes time . Youll feel better than having to deal with gerd symptoms. Surgery does help major of people so lets not generalize. Where people mess up is that you cant eat like crap and expect great results . You need to Maintain a decent diet . Though you cant still eat more variety but nonetheless needs to balance the diet after surgery. It isnt permanent the surgery. However it gives you more time to be symptom free or to reduce symptoms. There is no cure However thisnis a result of fatty processed foods we eat now in our modern society. Bad food bad gut. You need to eat better. For those who have poor motility issues, try the Stretta first. I had a pretty bad motility disorder but the Stretta has corrected that which has opened the door to be able to have the LINX device. Motility disorders are mainly caused by the damage from GERD. With the Stretta builds the muscle to resist gastric pressure from making you reflux. Secondly, Carlos, Was your hiatal hernia repaired as well when you had the Nissen fundoplication done? Your chest cavity has negative pressure and your stomach has positive pressure. If they hadn’t repaired the hernia, those pressure colliding with one another could be causing your heart rate issues and headaches.
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 5 лет назад
Hey Josh, so you can have the stretta and the LIinx at the same time?? I have never heard of that! thank you for letting us know. That is very useful information. Carlos Granados The Stretta is done first to improve motility. So if you know you have a motility disorder before the stretta, talk to your doctor about have a follow up monometry 6-8 months after. I had to undo then Nissen because it failed for me. so I'm giving the Linx more time and it can take up to six months to see if it fully worked for me. I believe something might be wrong with my diaphragm since over time it has taken too much trauma. I will have to look into that further though. Carlos Granados my symptoms all started when I was like 11. I would get shortness of breath really bad and it would last for days along with constipation and anxiety. And I realized it was heartburn and then that turned into a skipped heartbeat once in a while and a lot more anxiety and so I got put on an antidepressant for like all of high school and I was pretty normal except I would get heart palpitations after eating like my heart would skip beats when I was super full and I would burp a lot all the time after eating. So I got off the meds for my pregnancy and that’s when the acid reflux got worse I was having headaches pain in my arms, heart would race so bad when I would eat any little thing it was terrible. Then I gave birth and it all kind of stayed the same I guess except now I get weird symptoms. I think it’s all related to vagus nerve irritation. But I have gotten an endoscopy and everything is normal except I have mild chronic gastritis and h pylori from the biopsy, my breath test was negative tho idk why. It’s also strange my esophagus is fine because it feels like it’s all damaged and tight. I’ve done the SIBO test and that was neg as well. Idk what else to test for. I’m doing the gastric emptying test next week. All I know is that my stomach is always bloated and full and after the h pylori treatment everything feels worse, not acid more burning. Seems like a can of worms that won’t fucking close I’ve been through HELLLL. I’m wondering if I’ll ever return to normal but I don’t know how to get rid of all this! Spent a whole bunch of money with the holistic doctor who says the key is in your diet but I literally only eat rice and chicken and saltines. Linx is a bracelet of magnetic beads that is placed around your lower esophageal sphincter. It helps augment the LES and preventing GERD. It is one of the newer procedures. I believe it has been around for about a decade.

@@priyadayanandan9091 The Nissen Fundoplication surgery is major surgery that changes your insides in a radical manner. It helped me in the short term but has long term side effects, and it doesn't last a life time. After 15 years it loosens. Before the surgery I couldn't sleep so I had to do it. Even sleeping up in a chair wasn't working. Side effects: I cough after I eat and after laughing. It comes undone ever few years and I have to sleep sitting up until it seems to start working again. If you drink coffee, stop it and all caffeine all together. Don't drink coffee. I have to sleep elevated. I recommend avoiding this surgery at all costs unless you have no choice. Now they have this Linx procedure. I would recommend trying that instead.

@@priyadayanandan9091 so as I explained in the video. The surgery helped me but it didn’t cure my symptoms. The relief was only for a couple of months and eventually the surgery failed. We don’t know the reasons as to why it failed either. I am sure many factored played a role in that.

Hello. Did you face air gas in stomach after surgery? Like when I wake up on the morning with empty stomach and bend I see my self on the side in the mirror and I can see my stomach is bloated and not inside. Is that from air? Will it go away? How long if yes? I did my surgery 3.5 months ago

I am about to have the same surgery and also have the same regurgitation and shoulder/chest pains late at night as you described. I’d be interested to know if you found any relief to you regurgitation issues in the year since you posted this video. I was confident this surgery would help with the heartburn and regurgitation but now I’m not sure sure.
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 4 года назад
Unfortunately, I have not. I still suffer from regurgitation issues. I got the Nissen taken down and I had the linx implanted since I posted the video. The linx also has not cured my symptoms. I am at a standstill right now

Carlos , what are your most annoying side effect from surgery ? Is the bloating better?
@CarlosGranados1
@CarlosGranados1 5 лет назад
The most annoying I would say is the gas and bloating after eating. My body releases a lot of gas after meals. Also as I stated before since my surgery is considered a failed one, I have more issues now. I'm having another surgery soon since I have no choice because I cannot live this way. Also, the bloating still happens throughout the day and it has not subsided.

Carlos Granados i am so sorry to hear that , thank you for talking about it , sometimes we think surgery is the easy way out and doctors don’t give us enough information to make a good decision . I hope you find relief soon

@@NicaButterfly Yes I have heard about it, but I haven't done much research on it. Right now I believe the Linx is y best option. Plus I found a surgeon that has many years of experience and he really believes he can help me. He has worked on many redos as well which is really good.

Well, that will depend on how you do with the surgery. Everybody is different. I was able to eat decently but My body created a lot of gas because of the surgery so that became an issue.
