I find it interesting how many scientists keep freshwater almost by choice even if they have unlimited time haha. Most enthusiastic aquatic biologists have freshwater aquariums. I've also noticed for fishes there are societies for most popular taxa of freshwater fishes but marine I've not seen any e.g. damsel fish appreciation society or American wrasse society.
