My wife and I saw her in the symphony hall here in Huntsville. It was truly sublime. I have seen a good many famous artists over the years, but that may well have been the best concert I've ever been to.
Had not heard this beautiful ballad till 2024. Allison is amazing and the Dirt Band with her is country music perfection. This is truly country music at its absolute best. It's forever in my playlist now.
Oh my, there are so many musicians, singer-songwriters, out there but in relative obscurity. A bunch of those people are women who have been redefining bluegrass, and country. I don't know where to start with a list, but let me know if you are interested and I will point you in the direction of folks playing some badass songs and such. One thing, have you ever seen Sierra Hull play mandolin and sing? She was helped up into the music industry by performing with Alison Krauss when she (Sierra) was in about the 2nd grade. Alison was brought up and out into prominence in the same way; very young. Sierra Hull is all grown up now, still playing mandolin with her band, performing, and blazing new trails for women, in bluegrass and mandolin playing. Both of those fields have been male dominated for a very long time.
Wayne Riley I have seen the Petersen Family Band. They are good. Thank you. Still, Alison Krauss and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are at the highest level.
@@wriley4409 I agree brother. Check out their bios www.petersenband.com/bandbios/ Also The Franz family, Southern Raised, The Haygood family. Lots of talent in Branson
What kind of moron gives this a thumbs down?! Alison Krauss' fantastic singing voice backed up by an incredible band. It doesn't get any better than this. She also performed it at the 50TH anniversary of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at the Ryman Auditorium. It was fabulous as well with Sam Bush in the band. I see the late Randy Scruggs is on guitar in this version.
What a beautifully harmonized rendition of a Blue Grass standard. Man...so lovely it brings a tear to the eyes of anyone who appreciates the sweet versatility of American music, and the diversity of cultures it represents.😢
Interesting that this song was written in the 70's, and I heard it for the first time yesterday. Or maybe I heard it when I was young, but don't remember it.
No group of musicians could have done this better. Perfect background instruments with sweet harmonizing vocals. Love this song. Don't get them much anymore.
My beloved late husband, for our first date 25 years ago, went and saw Allison at a small county fair. Had never heard her before and said the same thing to Terry, she has the voice of an angel. Her CD has been playing when I get in the car for about a year.
What a wonderful sound, a song I could listen to for hours! Classic Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.... And Alison Krause remains my most favorite female vocalist, her voice is a gift!
OOOOOEEEE!!!! BUT MY WATER WORKS ARE FLOWING LIKE THE OL' ATCHAFALAYA EVEN AS I WIPE AND SWIPE AND DRY ONLY TO RESTART AGAIN WITH THE WATERWORKS........ONLY TO FLOW AGAIN....ADD "OLD RIVERS BY WALTER BRENNAN AND I WOULD NOT GET TO MOVE FROM THIS RECLINER! SING ALLISON SING OUT GIRL !!
Alison Krauss is my favorite female singer of any genre. Truly, the voice of an angel. The musicians she plays with are the best of the best. Yes, perfection.
Sean Edwards Sean Edwards hmmmm a lot of competition there, in fact sorry but trumped by anita carter and eva cassidy, alison is professional but those other two have the soul
When I hear songs like this, I have so much more respect for artists such as Alison Kraus and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, because unlike Taylor Swift, they have stayed true to their roots and grown within those very rich origins. Kudos to them all!!!
I was fortunate (privileged really) to hear the Dirt Band and Alison at the 50th anniversary concert of the Dirt Band in 2016. When Alison sang this song, it brought tears to my eyes, as it does every time I hear her sing. Great song, Beautiful lady, heavenly voice.
Then you get it my friend. This was written in '72 and obviously meant to bring unity. I live in Vicksburg, I am a white male and don't subscribe to any form of racism. Slowly things are changing. I live in Vicksburg, MS and see a lot of love between whites and blacks. I also see a lot of ignorant people stuck in backwards mentalities, both black and white. Like I said, things are changing slowly but surely. Actions speak louder than words, and as long as some of us continue to bring love, that backwards thinking will dissolve.
Though she was never country or bluegrass & i myself didn't listen to them i would have to say the late Karen Carpenter also had that above everyone else type of special voice that is rare as hens teeth. Also can't leave out another golden voice in the late Sandy Denny.
I’m a skinhead have been most of my life. I’m 56 now scar music has always been my thing. This is a beautiful song played and sung with absolute perfection. Regards from south London England 🏴
When I found this, I loved it and still do. I must have played it 100 times and will do some more. These people are each SO talented on their own. Then put together they are INCREDIBLE! Could use a lot more of this kind of music done so well.
28 Grammy Awards, the most in history by any female. I remember back when she cut “Steel Rails”. She was 19 years old. She’s come a long way. Truly talented.
I don't want to detract from Alison - she is excellent. But you must recognize the DECADES of musicianship supporting her and behind her. They are all true professionals, well-advanced in their craft!
The NGDB has all it takes to interpret a great song well: rhythm, melody, phrasing, timing and stage presence. With sticks and strings and such the band creates Beauty! One poignant song and flawless performance. I'm blessed!
It just doesn't get much more harmonious than that. I get chills hearing such beautiful voices blending. Why didn't those people ever make some records together?
music with true heart , love, pain, respect and honor of a child who had no hate in his heart and grew to love a man of true honor a man born a slave and was a man of true honor who look out for the young someone we should respect and learn from
March 2021 here I'm listening to the voice of an Angel 👼 sing, I love 💖💖💖Alison Krauss her voice penetrates way down deep inside your soul she's a beautiful person inside and out, I've been listening to Alison since early 90s🤗💖🤗💖🤗😍🤗😍🤗👋👋👋👍👍👍👍
The NGDB are my 'seventies' heroes...had every album of them turned grey..... this combination of voices of Jeff Hanna & Alison Krauss is near to perfect. Great performance and good to see my 'buddies' again.... Go Dirt !
This is toe tapping music. This is what county music use to be. What the heck happened enjoy as long as you can. This has to be the greatest band and Allison adds so much. Don't get any better.
Hello 👋 Linda. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
@@lindamoon2556 that's nice. I have been to Tennessee some years ago and it's nice there, I will love to visit again. I'm presently working in Alaska Arctic ocean. Have you been to Alaska before?
A perfect little masterpiece. Alison so delicate and understated. Douglas' tiny statements between lines are pure joy. And Jeff Hanna can sing anything at all. Why has NGDB not received more acclaim?
No huge originals, maybe? They made hits of Bojangles and Pooh Corner. And they made the Circle album. Those of us who were around knew their legacy. "Pick it, doc," was perhaps the best line any of them ever delivered (Way Downtown).
She ain't no slouch on the fiddle either. I recall the first time I saw here she was so shy it was PAINFUL. She still isn't the most gregarious person you'll ever meet, but as a musician she has few peers.
Allison's beautiful voice with GREAT harmony.....singing a Great song......GREAT musicians......Oh My!! Jerry Douglas on dobro.....need I say more? This should be a SMASH HIT ♥ heard WORLDWIDE!!
How can a simple song with 3 chords in 4/4 time be so moving? One word - talent. Great lyrics (RIP Johnny Russell). Great band with fantastic harmony vocals (NGDB). Talented musicians (Randy Scruggs, Jerry Douglas, and Alison Krauss) who use their talent to complement the song instead of outdoing each other or showing us how good or how fast they are. The best voice on the planet sings the song. No auto tune or other electronic help. No light show, no dancers, just music. And it was live..... That, my friends is talent. Many of today’s singers could not tune the instruments for to the talent on display in this video. Incredible performance.
Approximately 60 years ago I saw a nitty gritty dirt band on a sidewalk in Fairfax Virginia in front of Giant Music across the street from Jim McKay Chevrolet. Mr Bojangles had just been released and they were promoting it on AM radio. They also had a washboard and a wash tub base at that time. Truly acoustic
