I remember 16 year old me watching the original dancers on TV in 1964, about a month before the Beatles arrived. My parents thought the dancers looked cool and I thought they looked old and corny. None of us teens ever danced like that. Now I see the talent it took to dance so energetically and appreciate it from that point of view, but I still think it's a corny dance.
It is an American expression, I don't know if other countries say it. "Let's get down to the nitty gritty...." means getting to the heart of the matter, the most important part (or details) of a situation. Another similar American expression is "brass tacks." As in "let's get down to brass tacks...." These days, "nitty gritty" is a rarely used expression. If you actually hear it, it will almost certainly be said by an older person. In fact the only time I actually hear the expression "nitty gritty" is when listening to this song! Hope that helps.
@@archerpiperii2690 we understand the saying here in Australia, but it is probably used more by the older generation. Same as in the US. Great dancing too and the original is great.
