That pond shot is one I’ve wanted for a while. Oh well I had no regrets not going this year, but if it’s back next year I guess I’ll be back! Great video.
Abdul Zuher lmao no it does not. You’re thinking of locomotives that run at 300 PSI and supply their whistle with superheated steam. 765 afaik supplies it’s whistle with saturated steam.
OH! Now that makes sense. Superheated steam. Higher temperature + more steam = higher pitch. Not my words but the words of Swanson (the inventor of the M5, P5, and K5 horns) himself.
The whistle is a Hancock Long Bell 3 Chime base, customized at the NC&STL Shops. Big Boy's whistle is also a Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime but sounds a little higher.
@@GTRailFanProductions And smoother. But the absolute BEST long-bell Hancock 3-chime was #844's original(?) that she wore up to around 2008 when it started to wear out and was replaced in 2012 by a throatier whistle that came off a Big Boy, I believe. It just don't sound right on #844. She deserves the same whistle she had back then.
@@MiddleTennesseeRailProductions I feel the best Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime was Frisco #1522's. Beautiful whistle and awesome steam locomotive. My favorite type of whistle is a Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime, which Southern 630 wore in June/July 2012. A Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime was basically an early version of a Southern PS-4 Whistle, which sound like Hancock Long Bell 3 Chime. Frisco #1522's whistle sounds basically just like a Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime, which is just awesome to me.
I was there riding on her. The first weekend was busy as hell between us at the Lizard and the crowds were crazy not to mention Clam Bake was going on.
The NC&STL 576's whistle was blown on the deadhead and the first excursion. They then switched to the normal whistle 765 wear's on the second excursion of the day. I didn't stay for the second excursion
Great video! I too am very upset/frustrated with the shorter trip on Sunday. I planned to chase on a Sunday and a Saturday, but didn’t get any shots on Sunday because of the hiccup. Also, what camera do you use? It has great quality
@@fortwaynerailroad you guys should run the whole route if the scenic isn't running. And I hope not because that was very disappointing to not even be able to chase it really. And for riders to not get the same amount of mileage as Saturday riders is kind of messed up.
Thanks! It depends on the day really. This year it got all screwed up because on Sundays they only ran up South of Peninsula from Akron which usually they go up to Brecksville almost.
They were wearing NC&STL #576's whistle to raise awareness of the restoration of the steam locomotive, NC&STL 576. NC&STL stands for the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railroad. I personally loved the Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime off of NC&STL 576 on 765. It's nothing permanent. They only did this for the last sunday of the last weekend of Steam In The Valley.
